Zilzie Beach, Queensland

Kuda had never been to the beach before he was rescued, he’d hardly adventured at all in his 2.5 years

Zilzie Beach was the 1st beach he got to explore - the water was calmer, there were heaps of good things to sniff and room to run.

I loved seeing him change from not leaving my side to a bold adventurer; running up the sand, playing in the water and fetching coconuts or driftwood

Firstly, I’m Aussie so they’re ‘thongs’

Secondly, I live in Qld - they’re the go-to in footwear (I have 9 pairs, including ‘dressy’ ones)

This pair were found at Pennington Bay, Kangaroo Island just before I moved to Qld. I waited my required 24 hours, no one claimed them so I did!

2008 - Building a House

Location: Muston, Kangaroo Island, South Australia.

On the edge of Pelican Lagoon, a protected aquatic reserve, breeding ground for the leafy sea dragon, home to a pelican colony, I saw dolphins, seals, pelicans, stingrays and plenty of fish. I was adopted by magpies and had a goanna and a swan, both of who would wander through my front yard. it was a quarter acre in a row of 5 houses set in bush land, a true getaway. A dream house.

Bump the Pelican

During my time at Kangaroo Island Lodge one of my roles was to feed pelicans and hold an info session in the mornings.

This came about after a local pelican befriended me and started following me home and waiting for me at the hotel’s kitchen door. Bump was a local legend and was loved by the fisherman… well tolerated ;)

They estimated her to be over 30 years old! Even with her fishing line and hook accident she was still a healthy, albeit greedy opportunist Pelican.

This is an image from one of my Uni assignments.

It combines my love of inking, drawing, perspective lines and beautiful old abandoned buildings

Undertaking my Bachelor of Arts - Fine Art and Visual Culture (Double degree) is fulfilling a dream from 15 year old me. Life happened and I’m now undertaking it online at my own pace as an older student… I’m getting there.

A tough one but I’d like to pay tribute to a great man who left us yesterday. He was full of dry wit and quick comebacks. He was a beautiful spirit, a man of principles , the keeper of many of my secrets. He will be missed by many.

I stopped driving in 2016, got rid of the car and now walk or ride around Yeppoon - it’s better for my health and the planet

Around the Capricorn Coast I’m lucky that there’s a bus service and I can get where I need to (mostly 😉)

𝔻𝕒𝕪 𝟝: 𝔻𝕖𝕤𝕔𝕣𝕚𝕓𝕖 𝕒 ‘𝔽𝕚𝕣𝕤𝕥’

My first oil painting was when my neighbour offered to teach me oil painting. The outcome was a still life of flowers from my garden, ‘The Lillies”, for my Grandma, in memory of her 2nd husband, ‘Bunny’.

At the advice of the framer, he said “be bold, go yellow”. Coincidentally my Grandma’s kitchen was yellow. When she changed it to green a few years later she painted the frame to match. That’s one of my favourite memories of my Grandma 💚

I started this dreamcatcher in July 2019, but I chickened out finalising it and tying the final knots.

The piece is very personal - the doilie is from my grandma, the amethyst was a gift from my housemate, some of the cords came from an old rug gifted from my bro and SIL, some of the beads came from my mum, dad and sister and old bracelets from my collection. The feathers are gifts from the visiting Black Kite and the Magpie Lark (PeeWee) family.

Cooking - This was my Christmas Day entrée - Sea Scallops wrapped in Prosciutto and Brie

Years ago I applied for a cooks job, which I got - having almost no cooking ability and absolutely no commercial cooking experience (I could boil vegetables in a pot, cook 2 min noodles and burn toast).

I learnt to cook a few cuts of meat in the 2 weeks before starting and the rest is history!

I love experimenting with flavours and trying new foods.

I’m a creative person who loves the beach, my dog (@kudathestudiodog), cooking and gardening. I am freelance artist and photographer and Art Director at @tlucreativestudio.

I have fibromyalgia, spine damage, anxiety and associated side effects. I struggle some days but want 2020 full of productivity, creativity and feeling inspired!
