It’s hard not to look at the plate when it’s this good looking. . Once a year I need to remark the line. I just use a sharpie and have marks every 15ft/5M. . I tell my students they should not see the evil awful white plate of death while you are diving on the way down. . . The #1 rule in freediving is to protect the airway. It’s not the blackout that kills us it’s the water in the lungs that kills us every time. Here you can see a student closing off the airway by placing the heel of the hand on the chin and the fingers on the mask. This enusres no water can not enter the lungs. There are two entrances in the lungs, the mouth, and nose. Students learn if someone has a blackout to bring them up in this manner to protect the airway. During my courses, students practice the rescues between 15-20 times to get these lifesaving skills on autopilot. New toys for class this weekend! . Trying out the updated @moanawaterman fins. Got them from @headhunterspearfish, Looking forward to trying them out! So happy they are not in pathos pockets!! . . I lost my rig during last class during a blackout rescue at the surface. I keep camera between my legs at the surface have been doing that for 5-6 years. During the rescue at the surface I just forgot about the camera and once everything was ok I realized no camera! . Got new set up from @reefphotovideo, they are awesome. They are very patient with me and don’t make me feel like a idiot. II’m really just a wanna be photog that knows how to use Lightroom. Thanks @alancegan for all your help! . . I’ve always resisted wearing a leash for camera;but I’m not stupid enough to continue not using a leash after this mistake. Got a leash from Sam at @frontlinefreediving . . Anyway I’m even more excited that normal for class tomorrow, . . I’m heading down past 200ft during a past Deja Blue. I don’t compete much anymore which means I don’t wear a monofin much any more. I definitely struggle with getting my kick dialed in. . . The best piece advice for improving your monofin kick is getting photo and video of it. . A good entry is an invaluable skill you do on every dive. . . Every dive you do starts with an entry, whether you realize it or not, you likely do it the exact same every time. . . You could be doing that in the most efficient manner possible or in a less that ideal manner. . . Here you can see a student starting a good entry. He has done a 90% bend of the waist, has lifted one leg high in the sky, and is just about to do his arm pull. He has not made the most common mistake of starting with the arm pull. . . All of my classes have two 3 hours pool sessions to practice techniques like this over and over to develop muscle memory. . . I will share the story of when I started teaching freediving back in 2009 with Performance Freediving, I struggled. To be honest, I couldn’t do it, and I couldn’t keep up.
