Why I donât need Fat Acceptance:
1) My self worth is not entirely engulfed by the way I look. Trying to force other people to behave different so you donât ever have to feel bad is not a nice thing to do.Â
2) Comparing the choice of being fat against the struggle of those who face real oppression is selfish and immature.
3) Looking like THAT ^^^^ feels like SHIT
4) Young people should not be receiving the message that all of your decisions are âOKâ - there are DIRE consequences to overeating and leading a sedentary lifestyle. Your body eventually gets so confused about what to do with all this stored energy that it starts to glob onto your organs. If you donât think thatâs a problem - youâre a complete fucking idiot.
5) Fat Acceptance also seems to align itself with redirecting their dissatisfaction with life towards people who are fit. Youâre extremely quick to call a person a âskinny bitch/assholeâ - when you have NO IDEA what THIER health history is. They could have Marfan Syndrome - they could be ANOREXIC. Itâs hypocrisy at itâs absolute peak. You donât âfight fire with fireâ - you fight ignorance with truth, and HAES is not necessarily truth.
6) I have been fat for the majority of my life - so I am a FIRST HAND EXPERT on how much being fat SUCKS and itâs NOT because people donât find me attractive. Iâve been followed down the street because of my âfine bootyâ (his words, not mine). You are likely not attracting people because self-loathing is very visible to well adjusted people.
7) Fat men are completely marginalized in your âmovementâ - human rights are supposed to be about HUMANS.
8) If drug addicts demanded that society be completely reoriented so they did not suffer the adverse effects on their decisions, you would call them INSANE.
Now, all that being said, this ire is not directed at people who just want to be happy with themselves - which is an cause I wholeheartedly support. Nobody should be made to feel like shit because of how they look, it is stupid and counter productive. But when you stomp around demanding that people should accept you no matter what, that starts a dangerous precedent. People are allowed to not find you attractive - sorry, thatâs just how it is.Â
I have faced negative attitudes because of my weight, absolutely. I am not denying that it happens. My sister was kicked and punched and harassed because of her weight to the point that it caused her to self-mutilate. That is absolutely a problem. But making posters and whining and crying and demanding that you get your way is simply childish. Thereâs no other way I can think to describe it in my mind. The reality is, people are just kind of shitty in general - people will ALWAYS find a reason to be nasty towards you. Iâve also faced negative attitude because I have tattoos, am working class etc etc.
Sorry this was really long-winded, but I am worried about the state of this world, where instead of taking adversity and helping it make you strong, you slump into a heap of âItâs tooo haaarrrddd!!â.Â
Let me ask you one question: Fried chicken and posting SJW bullshit on tumblr? Or living a life where you donât have to worry about self preservation or that your body wonât start to constantly hurt?
(disclaimer: there are situations that can cause pain regardless of your health status, and there are health problems that make it more difficult to lose weight once it is gained)
