Can I be hopeful and tell myself that Detroit Evolution gave me the ace Nines I’ve always wanted? Like from the way he talks about falling in love with someone during the scene in the car and the ending scene where he expresses his disappointment at not being “complete” or being able to give Gavin what he thinks he needs. It struck a chord with me. Reminded me of myself.  Even if that’s not the case, and it’s not symbolic but purely face value android stuff, I still love it. I love that Gavin reassures Nines that it’s ok, and that he loves him for him. My heart.

It’s 100% intentional my dear. I am glad you felt seen! I - the writer/director - am asexual, so it was written from that experience of self doubt and journey through the asexual discovery process.

👆This is my favorite thing about the movie - the way asexuality is represented from the very beginning completely floored me, and Maximilian is captivating in every aspect of Nines' character. And nothing more so than Nines' asexualtity, I felt the struggle over his desire to be close to Gavin but not knowing whether he could be enough for him.

And Chris Trindade as Gavin was everything anyone in the fandom could hope for for the character, what a phenomenal actor. The way he expressed his total acceptance of Nines' asexuality was particularly beautiful in all its Gavin-ness, and I think the representation within this project has the capacity to open a lot of other people up to the reality and the reassurance that being asexual is part of who you are and doesn't make anyone less of a person or less able to feel and express love and affection.

i reread your pride series recently and eagerly wait for you to break my heart with what seems to be a hinted angsty arc. i hope everything is alright on your end - especially with the virus.

The UK is an interesting place right now with the lockdown, but I'm in the fortunate position of being in a nice flat with an amazing roommate and plenty to keep me occupied so I count my blessings ❤️ I'm glad you enjoyed the series, I hope you're equally as excited as I am for the release of Octopunkmedia's Reed900 movie tomorrow! Here's the first gif/moving footage from Detroit Evolution! The movie is currently in post production and it'll be awhile before we get a trailer together, but I still wanted to show off one of the early scenes of Gavin and Nines.

We haven't done Nines' LED effect yet, or color graded the scene, but I think Chris and Maximilian's chemistry as Reed900 is still pretty evident :)
