This post is my interpretation of Solomon’s scenes in ObeyMe OG S1. It is not concrete and I have a large pro-Solomon bia. I would recommend replaying S1 of OM to come to your own conclusions!
💚Big thanks to @melverie for being my beta reader!💚
First Introductions
When we first meet Solomon it’s the moment two demons openly plan to eat us. This is when he introduces himself, in classic Solomon fashion he’s hard to write down. If you ask for help he questions why you’d need his help if you have Mammon, he then goes to questions why Mammon was assigned in the first place. He assumes Lucifer is messing with MC (although he’s plain wrong here it’s a reasonable assumption) and says if MC was in any actual danger then he’d step in.
Which funnily enough, is exactly what he does in this scene. Because after we’re done talking the demons that wanted to eat us are gone.
Our Knight In Flowing Cloak
💖💖This dance scene!!💖💖
Easily the best Solomon moment in S1!
Lucifer threatens us, demanding we tell him what we’re planning. No matter what we say he doesn’t respond kindly. Before the conversation can continue to escalate Solomon once again steps in to protect us from a demon.
Helping Us Forge Pacts
These are the scenes that are mostly up to interpretation. If your interpretation of these scenes is different than mine—that’s ok!
Levi
Solomon visits Levi in his room for whatever reason, he then says Levi’s secret phrase so happeningly in front of MC and Mammon.
You also have the option of choosing Simeon or Solomon’s help for the quiz. If you choose Solomon he lends you an extremely rare TSL item that even Levi assumedly doesn’t own.
He does this without asking anything in return.
Asmo
Solomon let’s MC borrow his powers out of sheer curiosity. Thanks to this MC is able to summon Asmo and lend him incredible power. Asmo then becomes very intrigued and wants to forge a pact with MC.
Interesting thing to note here, Solomon brings the conversation to Asmo. Who then says he wants to forge a pact with MC.
Belphie
Solomon runs into MC and Belphie out on a shopping trip trying to find Diavolo a birthday gift. Solomon comments on how close they have gotten suddenly and then he asks if Belphie is planning to forge a pact with MC. Belphie doesn’t answer the question initially, thinking it through. Solomon then asks if he’d like to forge a pact with him, which he immediately rejects. Solomon expected to be rejected yet he still asked, why?
Solomon then asks Belphie about how he was glancing at MC to gauge their reaction the entire interaction, and asks him why.
Solomon has just broadcasted to MC that Belphie is very interested in forging a pact with them.
Conclusion
While it’s more obvious Solomon in Nightbringer is looking out for MC, it seems he’s always been looking out for MC even from the very time they met.
Solomon constantly asking for your reassurance whenever he engages in anything romantic is due to his insecurity that he isn’t as important to you as the brothers. He needs to know you want to do this, he needs to know you love him.
If you say no he immediately backs off. You have to go out of your way to kiss him. There’s never a dialogue option that leads to a kiss without you explicitly asking for one, unlike some characters.
It's definitely in part jealousy of the brothers' and MC's closeness, but I'd say it's also in large parts due to his upbringing
We've been told that Solomon was born into a world where anyone possessing magical powers would be executed for it, alongside their families. And since his parents were scared of that happening, he spent all his childhood confined to the basement. Everything about his life and the way it played out essentially functioned as a big reminder that there was something so wrong with him that he didn't even deserve to live, and he probably ended up internalizing it, because remember, he was only a child at a time. And so he hid away as he was told to and tried his best to surpress his powers
And then they went haywire. We don't really know what happened other than that his powers caused "tremendous damage and destruction to the human world", but that description already paints a very vivid image on the damage he had caused
(On a side note, while it's not confirmed in any way, I'd say it's fair to assume that that's when Solomon tired to summon Barbatos in order to reverse the damage he has caused after losing control of his powers. We know that Solomon was in an awful state when he summoned Barbatos, Solomon mentions in season 3 how he was absolutely desperate to get his hands on Barbatos power to control time, and Thirteen says that she noticed his soul being dull after he and Barbatos had met. Timeline-wise it adds up)
I'm guessing that's also why he wants to protect humanity so badly. Part of it is because he promised his friend, sure. But there's no way being directly responsible for wiping out everthing you knew and more wasn't an incredibly traumatizing and scarring event to him—especially since he was, again, most likely still a child at that time. In his mind it's probably like a feable attempt at making amends for an incident so grave that he could never possibly make up for it, yet he tries anyway
Which brings me back to why he needs the reassurance. Throuought his entire childhood he was told that there was something wrong with him, that he didn't even deserve to live because it, only to then seemingly prove everyone right by being directly responsible for an immense disaster, caused by his magic inevitably lashing out after being surpressed so long. Whether he even remembers it all or not, it all left with him with scares that we every once in a while get a glimps of, be it by subtly talking himself down (forever thinking about his "Wow, you're even nice to me, huh?" in the OG's Surprise Guest), or by needing reassurance from MC
everybody has that one wizard friend in the friend group, and even though they're always casting spells, it's okay to flirt with them a little bit every now and then. just because they're all powerful and constantly uttering incantations doesn't mean they don't want to be flattered. The next time your wizard friend is conjuring something you can let them know you think they're pretty. You don't have to of course, I just think they'd appreciate it
i call it "this happened to me like 4 years ago and to this day i genuinely still dont understand why everyone reacted like that because it wasnt intended to be a roast or anything guys i swear"
