Life is Like Fantasy Football

I never expected that I would do very well my first time playing fantasy football. However I didn’t think that I would do this poorly. My record this season is 2-8. That is horrible. I have never received a grade or rating of any kind that is this poor. It is interesting because I have gone through phases of how much I care and how much it affects me. Some weeks I couldn’t care less how my team is doing, then the next week I am reading all the statistics I can, getting all the news possible, talking to everyone and anyone who I know is knowledgeable, in hopes of obtaining the necessary information to fix my team so I actually have a chance of winning a match. But just about every time I get that excited I still lose. It became ironic when one week I tried my hardest and lost miserably, then the next week I couldn’t care less and had a huge victory. I guess life is like fantasy football. Never know what’s going happen, and ultimately it’s out of our hands.

Is There Still Hope? No

This week brought another victory for Peyback Time! Although I suppose I shouldn’t be celebrating. I am 2-7. Not exactly a good record. At this point I have pretty much lost hope in my fantasy team. However, it’s not so bad, because there is still plenty of football to be watch, epic plays to be seen, and fantastic catches to be witnessed. If I am lucky enough, maybe one of my players will make that epic play or fantastic catch! Though I am saddened that my own team is not doing well at all, at least I can be happy that my favorite team, the Broncos, has been doing well. Peyton is a little shaky but our offensive line is incredible, along with the defensive line. With the new coach for the Broncos changing stuff up, I think it took a little bit for Manning to figure out how to work with it, but I believe he has arrived. Now it is time to wait and see how the rest of the season goes for them.

The Man Himself

We are deep into the season of NFL Football. Players have developed themselves and are really beginning to shine. I am going to take a slight detour from just talking about my Fantasy Team and talk about my favorite player in the NFL. Demaryius Thomas, wide Receiver for the Denver Broncos, who happens to be my favorite team. Demaryius has continued to prove himself to be agile, effective, and a hard worker. He is 6’3 236 pounds and runs the 40 yard dash in 4.38 seconds. He’s huge, fast, and good at what he does. In 5 years with the Broncos he has 407 receptions, 6,012 yards and 42 touchdowns, not to mention receiving 286 first downs. The man is consistent. He may not be the best in the NFL, but he proves to be a lethal weapon for the Denver Broncos. Unfortunately, he is not on my Fantasy team. In fact he is actually on the team I am up against this week… Well I hope he performs well! I would rather Thomas and the Broncos do well and will this week than my Fantasy team.

Sweet Sweet VICTORY

Victory taste so good! It only took me 7 weeks to finally defeat an opponent. This was the first week where my starters actually played how I expected. They destroyed the other teams. Not only did my starters do exceptionally well, the players I had benched did exactly how I predicted… terrible. The star running back for the New England Patriots, LeGarrette Blount played his worst. Given he was going up against one of the strongest defenses against running backs, he still did not play well. My guess is he knew who he was going up against, and he let it get into his head. Either way I am hoping that Blount performance goes up this week because I have him starting. In other news I had to drop my wide receiver Davante Adams because he injured his ankle, but I was able to pick up Marvin Jones who is HOT right now. Hoping he keeps throwing down like he has been.

A Close Call

For the first time this season...I was close to winning. For up until Sunday I was leading, significantly. I thought to myself "this couldn't possibly be it! Is this my week?? The week that my Fantasy Football team shines and breaks it's no win streak!?" Up until Sunday night I was walking tall thinking I had it in the bag. Then Monday night football came and the wide receiver on the other team THREW DOWN. He collected an incredible 36 points. His outstanding performance had cost me the win. I was convinced until that Monday night game that I was going to finally get to taste the delicious medley that is victory. I was wrong. It is now the 7th week of Fantasy football and I am 0-6. My team name is Peyback Time, and I'm considering to changing it to something more appropriate like, esteem booster or door mat, because anyone who plays me will win, anyone that faces us walks all over us. It is depressing, however I can still smell a victory in my future. Maybe this week? Is week 7 my week? Let us hope!

Relentless Defeat

It was another tough week in the world of Fantasy Football….for me. Once again the players I had starting this week did not perform like I predicted. While the ones benched didn’t play super well either, they at least did better than the starters. I’m beginning to think that whatever I decide would be good for the week, that I should do the opposite because so far everything I’ve been thinking would be good has been bad, and vice versa. The realization finally hit me and that I really have no idea what I’m doing. I thought I knew football decently before this, now I’m realizing there is a whole other level of “knowing” football and thanks to Fantasy Football I’m discovering that I am not on that level. I try to blame my failure every week on the poor players that I got stuck with, but in reality I know its that I’ve just made some bad judgment calls when it comes to my bench and my starters. Well, on to another week, maybe this is the week I make a comeback and finally beat my opponent. Wishful thinking! Just trying to be optimistic.

Frustration

The past 2 weeks of Fantasy Football has been very, very frustrating. Last week I benched 3 players who I thought were not going to put out at all and started 3 guys whom I believed were going to break out and bring in ALL the points. Well… the opposite happened and my starters barely performed at all and the guys on the bench when crazy and did exceptionally well in their games. So with that knowledge I switch my bench and my starters for this week. Guess what happened…The same thing that happened the week before. My starters did terrible and my bench exceeded. This just goes to show how unpredictable Fantasy Football is. It is hard for me to not get frustrated each week when I lose, because I am a very competitive person when it comes to things like this. I supposed I just need to study up better and hope I get lucky with good starters that perform well.

The Beginning

2015 NFL Football season is here. Every year I have heard people talking about their Fantasy Football teams, but never before have I taken part in my own Fantasy team. I withheld from entering the world of Fantasy because I have been told “It will change the way you watch football” and “You will watch WAY more football than you have before”. Considering I already feel like I watch a significant amount of football I didn’t know what to think about people telling me I would watch WAY more. 

Though I was apprehensive I set forth. Thus began my journey into the world of Fantasy. It was time to educated myself on everything Fantasy Football because soon I would have to build my team. I had to do extensive research because I am up against 11 other people in my league. Once my research was complete it was time for the draft… it certainly did not go how I imagined it would.

The draft came quickly, I prepared myself to the best of my ability. I had lists upon lists of players I wanted on my team, people to keep my eye on, and people to stay away from entirely. The draft started and I was placed 12th on the pick list, meaning 11 people went then I would pick 2 and then it went back down the 11 people and back up through the 11 for me to pick another 2. This proved to make drafting a little more difficult than I thought.

I got through, barely, and I had my team. I am now 3 weeks into the season and my team has changed drastically. This blog will have updates of my team, players I think are worth watching or even potentially drafting and much more.
