Your post about Tony's intentions during Civil War was really informative, can I ask how you think Tony would have acted in the situation the X-Men are currently facing? Do you think it was in character for him and the other Avengers to send the missiles, or do you think the other Avengers decided without him, and he tried to stop them? What does he think about having a mutant as powerful as Matthew Malloy being on Scott's team? What does he think about Scott being freed from prison?
I admit, first off, I don’t feel like Tony is honestly Tony Stark in current canon anymore, and I would pick that apart but that’s outside of this ask.
To be honest, I think Tony breaking the Phoenix was in character, I think Tony seeming to not be sorry about when talking with Scott and Emma is very in character, but that’s about it. Tony would never have suggested that they were at fault, he just wouldn’t, we’re talking about a man who knows what it’s like to have people mind control him, like seriously, right before Civil War and kid hacked his brain and made him murder someone, and while he felt guilty he knew that it wasn’t him. I can’t logically see why he would suggest the Phoenix Five were at fault considering everything they know about the Phoenix.
But let’s look shall we:
Scott: After everything I can’t think of a single reason why I’d help you.Tony: …in the end, with Hope. The distorter. Everything. I knew it would create mutants.Scott: Get your machines, Stark. You can take as many readings as you want.
I personally think any rift between Scott and Tony should have ended here. Tony is not a guy that holds grudges. Tony is always looking to the future, always, and while he might hold things against himself he rarely holds things against other people. The moment Scott was open, Tony would have reciprocated in the best way he knows how, by moving on.
Now let me be clear. Tony is super paranoid, Tony is almost self damaging, and damaging to those around him because of his paranoia, because his intense need to figure things out, and his intense desire to fix everything. Tony might have lost Scott’s trust again after this moment, but not because Tony wants to put him in jail, but because Tony would watch him, Tony would track him, Tony would have a very hard time letting go of that control. That would be a problem with Matthew. Tony knows Scott is capable, smart, and honestly a great leader. Tony even got Scott’s help in Civil War with an issue on a SHIELD base. Tony has great respect for Scott but that doesn’t mean everything would be peaches and creams and rainbows and butterflies on everyone’s side.
That being said, no, hell no, Tony would never send a missile to kill them. There was a 4 part mini series that came out last year in which Tony was with the Revolutionary X-Men. He got duped by them, yes, he didn’t know until the end of the 3rd issue who they were when Magik busted in, but we’re talking Tony Stark, man who split the Phoenix Force, man who created a Thor clone, albeit bad decision, but you are not going to convince me that in the last issue, Tony wouldn’t have been smart enough to at least try to grab Scott if that’s what he wanted. But he didn’t, so riddle me this Batman: if Tony had the chance to go after Scott and didn’t take the chance, why would he have decided to kill Scott? It logically doesn’t make sense to me.
So honestly, 1. No I don’t think Tony or the Avengers would have sent a missile, they might have busted up in there like assholes but they would not have killed them, especially because it’s a really stupid thing to do anyway considering all the animosity between mutants and Avengers, like c’mon they just aren’t that stupid.
2. If I rp this, Tony is going to try to stop the missile honestly, or have done it as like a master plan to make Scott be “dead” so he didn’t have to be on the run. Don’t get me wrong Tony is not afraid to kill, but the only time Tony has ever canonly killed/attempted to kill without there being some condition (e.g: drunk, brainwashed, ect) was when it was HIS tech that was stolen and being used to hurt people.
3. Matthew would scare the shit out him, he’d want to be able to monitor the situation whether Scott and the Revolutionaries knew about it, but he’d recognize that Emma being Emma and Scott being Scott, that if anyone could potentially help Matthew it would be them, and he’d let them.
4. Tony is 100% okay with Scott being a freed man. No one will ever convince me otherwise. Tony might say otherwise to hold pretenses, but I cannot logically understand why a man like Tony Stark would hold Dark Phoenix killing Xavier through Scott against Scott. I stress again, he might want to keep tabs on Scott, but that’s because of personal Tony Stark issues, not because he thinks Scott is a cold blooded killer.
I hope this cleared anything up for you Anon. I know this is my personal views on Tony Stark, and it’s hard to find current canon comics to support that because he’s so incredibly OOC right now, but I digress.
