Coming from Korean descent, Matilda believes in a few of their more common superstitions. Mostly because of her father. In Korea, if you want a person dead, you will write a person's name in red ink. Because of this, Matilda refuses to use any red ink pens.

Matilda is somewhat scared of falling in love. She doesn't think she is worthy of being in love or that really anyone could fall in love with her in general. She puts herself down a lot and thinks that with all her issues ( even before becoming Venomiss) that no one would give her the time of day once they knew.

It was almost as if it had positioned itself around her neck. Choking her with every negative thought.  If only she could have some help. If only her family cared enough to listen.

Okay so Matilda is the daughter of a very big and important business man. Perhaps she was caught doing something aka being Venomiss that made his reputation begin to go down south. So, out of panic he hires Vance, not to really kill Matilda, but punish her.
