Men DNI blogs avoid my blog. I have connections to masculinity and manhood that are not divorcable from my overall experience.
Do note I do not respond in a timely manner, I'm neurodivergent and a full time student so it eats away at my time. I also place emphasis on human rights conversations outside of the online space as that is something that is within my capabilities.
“I’m just treating trans men like men! (Disgusting, predatory, aggressive creeps who I think are less than human) accept my gender affirmations or else you’re the one being transphobic! Against yourself!”
If you believe that trans men as a class possess structural power and authority as men, you are not worth my attention or time and you are an active and constant detriment to any trans man even vaguely in your circle and in general, and I hope that weighs on you.
When I was young my mother chased me through a store trying to force me into a dress. I had really wanted to wear a men’s suit. The “compromise” had to be a women’s pants suit because she insisted that a men’s suit would look terrible on me and wouldn’t fit my frame. My parents very much cared about me wearing “men’s clothing.” I can’t emphasize enough how fucking angry she was and the way she would grab my shirt and drag me with her to the women’s section. My dad was just as hateful if not more about it.
And I didn’t even grow up in a high control environment like OP is mentioning.
If you think like this way you don’t know/talk to enough GNC women/ transmasc people about their experiences.
leik do i think "girl math/girl dinner" etc deserve critique and examination? yes of course. do i think going after random individuals on tiktok who engage in those jokes is in any way productive, or that they are traitors to feminism? no not at all. and it is especially telling that once a trans person dare engage in those same jokes THEN it becomes a massive issue. it's blatant transmisogyny!
It is beat for beat the same reaction radfems have to makeup. They treat individual women like traitors for engaging with it, and use their critique of the beauty industry violently against trans women to ostracize and villainize them. Its The Same Picture.
Sometime made a post going 'Love the trans women in your life while they're still here'
Someone added 'Trans men and Nonbinary too!'
And this was the response.
My response: Cut this shit out, you're acting literally ridiculous.
First of all - no it's NOT an All Lives Matter moment.
ALL LIVES MATTER was created by white people who DON'T experience racism to silence the experiences of those who DO experience racism and die at the hands of it.
A transmasc or nonbinary person saying 'Us also!' is a not the same.
It's a group of people who DO experience transphobia adding to the experiences of those who ALSO experience transphobia.
It's A LOT MORE like a black person going 'BlackLivesMatter' and sometime commenting '#StopAsianHate too :)' and OP going 'wow fuck you read the room you're being racist.'
That's like a Gay person speaking out against homophobia and how it's wrong. And then a trans person says 'Transphobia too!' and suddenly it's 'Read the room. This isn't about y'all. Why do y'all have to bring yourself up always. This isn't about gender. Read the room-'
Sounds familiar to y'all? It should. I'm reading the room and the room is saying you just fucking hate another group of oppressed people lol
Another oppressed person who experiences the same violence as you adding their voice to your choir is NOT the same as white people using their privilege to silence others who experience racism when they themselves don't.
SECOND OF ALL - (tw death mention under cut)
YEAH THEY HAVE A RIGHT TO ADD 'Celebrate your trans brothers while there here' on a post you know..
considering a transmasc non-binary person got fucking beat to death on school grounds exactly a month ago.
Remember that??? The one whose death is being actively covered up by school, law, and state officials on a systemic scale??
Also - a fucking trans man from NJ is still missing as we speak (Elliot Ganiel)
But calling attention to that is like being a MRA??? Talking about a children deaths in a school bathroom and missing people are like being MRAs whose main concerns are women playing video games or some shit?
No. No it isn't.
Y'all misusing terms like MRA and yelling 'That's like all lives matter!!!' clearly show youdon't understand how oppression works in the slightest.
If you try to compare any white racist movement to an oppressed group of people - YTA.
One of us gets fucking killed with no justice, LGBTQ crisis line calls skyrocket, and when asked about it state officials say and I quote 'We don't want that filth in our state!!'
- and when we talk about it amongst people in our community it's 'read the room!!' or 'wow really MRA like'
Fucking bite me.
And before - 'Oh but they didn't have to put it on THAT post, they could've made their own'.
Did you not hear what I just said. A transmasc teen was beat to death and misgendered publically statewide.
Maybe transmascs would like to feel included by the community at this time? So they can feel safe? Safety in numbers? And maybe want to feel like the wider community cares when shit like this happens - which clearly.. y'all don't.
Cause when a transmasc kid is literally killed - and we see a post saying 'Love your transfemme friends whine they're here!' and add the same - only to be told to read the room - it tells us 'You only have a month or so to morn. They died last month? Why are you bringing it up now on a post about appreciating trans people before their death??? Read the room. That was for us only. Stop trying to hog all the attention'.
Like damn sorry for wanting to feel like my community would care if I got wiped off this fucking earth silly me. Silly us.
When we start the conversation on our own we're ignored. When we try to contribute our experiences to other conversations we're told to shut the fuck up and read the room and then compared to actual racists and sexists.
You constantly compare us to people who DO NOT face oppression - cis men and white people - in order to silence us, despite the fact you know we face oppression in ways both groups could never even imagine. You think you're slick. You're not.
Stupid ass take. The fame of the artist doesn't define how it makes you feel. Do you not see me go hogwild eating potatoes, easily one of the top 5 most well known vegetables
“amab privilege” just say you dont understand anything about transfemininity or how complex the idea of privilege is and want to use our language to make your shitty ideas seem legit
I think the term "terminally online" should really be retired, I truly do. It's really transformed from this idea that going out and taking part in your community can give you well-needed perspective that isn't achieved in online spaces but now it's really just used to say "this person has a take I don't like and needs to educate themselves." Which doesn't really, clarify, what they need to educate themselves on and where they can find those resources.
And I do think even people who regularly engage with their communities close by them are still capable of holding harmful opinions and perspectives, even if they may be less likely to do so. Also people online are in fact real people who exist somewhere out there. They are real life people. They're not feds and not always bots.
I was living in a dorm room after COVID-19 was announced and after the quarantine was "lifted" that was filled with other queer people who had really awful things to say about queerness. The type of information you'd assume is only spewed online. I was talking to them, and seeing them, face to face!
I think this influx of discourse and "bad-takes" is much deeper then we will ever realize and it is causing problems not just within spaces online but in our local communities. The pandemic was devastating, and continues to be devastating. It's important now more than ever to nurture and empathize with the people around us both online and offline.
These spaces are sacred. We are stronger together.
a while back, when I was pretty newly on T, I had someone threaten to rape me to get me pregnant in order to force me off testosterone. explicitly. no room for interpretation.
I'm sure that a lot of queer people are at risk of corrective rape. but i think that threat, in its specificity, is an interesting one, in terms of discourse, at least.
because that is, fundamentally, the transmasc specific transphobia that everyone is trying to tell me doesn't exist or isn't that bad or shouldn't have a word.
transfems definitely can and do get correctively raped, but, as far as I'm aware, it's only transmascs who would be forced off their hormones by medical professionals because of it.
corrective rape doesn't work. it never makes someone stop being trans. but. corrective rape can and does force trans men to detransition, whether we want to or not. because of the very rules of our institutions.
and you cannot, you simply cannot convince me that that's 'bog-standard transphobia'. you cannot tell me that that's 'something every trans person experiences' because it's just, fundamentally... not. it's a different thing. and it should have a specific word.
reading transmasc, transfem, & other trans experiences with transphobia & lateral violence in queer spaces it's clear that generally there is a lot in common. being left out of conversations, not having any resources aimed at your trans group, being gatekept from safe spaces for being perceived as "too male/masculine," being ignored when talking about issues that affect your trans group, losing support networks after coming out/transitioning, being ignored or harassed after pointing out community problems. i have heard the exact same raw wounds from all sides.
whenever we insist that any of this is universally unique to one trans group, that others never experience this & "don't know what it's like," we contribute to the very thing we suffer from. no amount of suffering absolves us from causing severe harm.
reading this document is pissing me off so heres something im pissed off about. we have got to fuckin stop derailing discussions of misogyny and transmisogyny with 'gender isnt real' bullshit. youre right, gender is basically a complete social fabrication, but you know what IS real? systemic oppression based on perceived sex and/or gender, and deeply-ingrained beliefs and behaviours about and towards women and trans women.
