Yalāl ad-Dīn Muhammad Rūmī fue un célebre poeta musulmán persa, erudito islámico y místico sufí nacido en septiembre de 1207 en Balj, en la actual Afganistán.
Primeros años
Cuando Rumi tenía 12 años su familia dejó las provincias orientales de Persia con un grupo de discípulos y viajó hacia el oeste a causa de las invasiones del pueblo Mongol
Hacia el año 1230 el padre de Rumi tomó rumbo hacia Asia Menor y se instaló en Konya Turquía.
Su padre, Baha'uddin Walad era un reconocido teólogo musulmán, del cual Rumi recibió su formación religiosa, filosófica y espiritual.
