" i— " it's weirder than he thought it would be and he clears his throat before speaking again. " sorry. " it falls out of his mouth awkwardly, fumbling over a very simple, yet very foreign apology. freezing up for a moment, luvia watches the boy awkwardly fumble over his words, not quite sure how to voice what he wants to say. but he does, and luvia smiles warmly at him, feeling that familiar bubbly warmth spread from her stomach to every nook and cranny of her body. he was just so cute! ❝ it's okay, wolverine. i know it wasn't your fault. ❞ if anything, pippy was to blame here. but pippy was just a little animal, it wasn't like they knew what they were doing, right? hesitating for a moment, she timidly outstretches her hand towards the brunet, feeling her cheeks grow warm. ❝ w-would you like to take a walk with me? i was just going to go outside for some fresh air. ❞

𝐃𝐄𝐒𝐏𝐈𝐓𝐄 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐂𝐀𝐒𝐔𝐀𝐋 𝐆𝐄𝐒𝐓𝐔𝐑𝐄𝐒, 𝐓𝐄𝐍𝐒𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐖𝐈𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐍 the flock of ravens that had gathered only seems to grow as bai yi makes her way through their compound and towards the omen of conquest, no longer untouchable as kira does little to push her away amidst the somewhat confused expression that crosses stoic features. it was not often that the band enlists outside help from a third party regarding these matters, especially one of a personal matter. still, she lets out a rather amused hum when she hears what sounds like a company's opening statement, observing every move carefully. ❛      and you are bai yi.      ❜ spoken less like a question, more akin to a confirmatory statement, rather than acknowledging their own name when asked. it feels less like a bird's nest, more like a den of snakes, the way even passersby and stagnant onlookers seem to assess this newcomer who has made her way into their operations.

a slight furrow in between their brow, then, ❛      is that so?      ❜ at the stern tone of their voice, there was noise of scrambling in the room behind them [ most likely one of her men who had been tasked to ensure the funds were safely transferred ... and apparently had not done the job correctly ] they take out their phone from their jacket pocket, and a few taps later there was an electronic ping that came from the device. ❛      here, it should be transferred to your account now. and an additional five percent for the trouble, given that you had sent your best member on the job, after all.     ❜ emphasis of the repetition of her words, not theirs. five percent of the payment was more than a generous tip, considering the ... more than adequate, price she had offered. ❛      you're going to guard something very important to me. it is responsible for several arson cases, and i cannot allow anything to happen to her.      ❜

when the ping sounds there's a vibration from within her pocket, and she's quick to retrieve her phone and look at the screen, her lips curling even more upon seeing the extra money. lucky~! it just so happened that k.k was too busy on another mission and che was nursing a stomach bug, so bai yi was forced to take on this one, even though she'd rather stay home and nap all day. k.k wouldn't have let her hear the end of it, but now maybe the woman would get off her back when she sees the figures she's made on this job. even so, upon pocketing her phone, bai yi turns towards her employer, her smile dulling the tiniest bit at her explanation.

❝ her? ❞ she repeats with a hum, tilting her head the slightest bit. ❝ so... not a 'something', but a 'someone', huh? ❞ the idea that this woman wasn't strong enough to guard this unnamed person was ridiculous, so bai yi wonders just why they were hiring other people to watch over their own, when it was clear as day no one here seemed comfortable with her being here, never mind taking on the job. regardless, she doesn't much care. she'd walk someone's pet rat for money to put food on the table, that's just how it was.

shifting her footing, the sinner's dulled smile turns into an amused grin. ❝ several arson cases? oh my, sounds fascinating. ❞ it was only natural to assume this unknown person was a sinner, what with the seriousness of keeping her from harm. ❝ so, who is she? a friend? ❞ leaning forward yet again, she slightly elbows the ravenette in the side with a cheeky smirk, ❝ a girlfriend? ❞ / @wistrea

the inability to see the good in yourself, therefore relying on others to provide it for you.

your heart is so full for the people you love. it's sweet, but you've now forgotten how to care for yourself. you only seem to see great things in the people around you. they're wonderful, and you... you don't like what you're seeing in yourself, right? you need to be reminded that you're enough. that you're talented. that you're worthy. that's partly the reason why you reach out so much. you need to hear it from the lips of someone "better" than you. but afterwards, it makes you feel even more guilty and upset. you feel like your actions are self-absorbed. you're aiming for perfection because you see it in others. you're failing to see the flaws in everyone else. i promise, you're no monster. i could say this again and again, but will you believe me when i say you need to find it out for yourself?

his last mission ended in a blur, the sounds of roaring corruptors and the sounds of his body giving out were the last things he recalled before all the pain subsided and he drifted off, only to wake back up in the mbcc's medical wing, very much alive. even though he was covered in bruises, cuts, and bandages; he was alive. he didn't feel like it though, but he was given something for the pain and was told he'd be spending the next few days staying in the medical wing, much to his dismay. he had already planned on up and leaving, but even he wasn't that foolish. so he stayed put, but changed into his own clothes and got comfortable on the chair beside his bed, not wanting to lay around all day - he wasn't that type of person.

a few different people stopped by to pay him a visit, some wishing him well and others poking fun at him in his silly little hospital slippers. no one had dared mention the mission or scold him until mya had her turn to visit, and as expected she didn't dare hold back. she sits comfortably on the bed he was supposed to be on while he remains in the chair, pale hues focused on the large boot on his leg as she speaks, firing a question his way he wasn't too sure if she wanted him to actually answer.

only when silence falls between the two does demon shift his attention, lifting his head so his hair no longer shields his somewhat disappointed countenance. ❝ it's my job, ❞ demon states quietly, ignoring one of the nurses as she comes to hook up another bag of fluids to his iv. ❝ it's my job to protect them, everyone - my team, mya. if i didn't stay behind people would have actually died... the children could have died. ❞ the young sinners and even the chief could have been killed, and it was his job to make sure that didn't happen. he made that promise in the name of abel and vera. he couldn't protect his old family, so he'd do well in protecting this one.

receiving a request to accept a last-minute emergency mission, bai yi didn't think twice about accepting and returning the paperwork to nightingale. the list of sinners requested was already on the paperwork bai yi skimmed over, and she memorised the list of names. they'd be her partners, after all. only, when she shows up to the meet-up point out in the yard, she's surprised to hear from hella that demon wouldn't be able to attend the mission due to an injury from his last one. before she can begin to wonder who would take his place the chief strolls over with someone quite familiar by her side, immediately gaining the attention of the gathered sinners. a brow quirks as chief explains the situation with demon and that cinnabar, a former security supervisor, would be taking his place. when the explanation comes to an end and the chief turns to begin to handle the transportation, bai yi slides up to cinnabar's side, lower arm sneakily resting on the woman's shoulder, her chin planting firmly on said arm. ❝ it's a real bummer to hear about demon, ❞ bai hums, being a little too close for comfort and knowing it, ❝ but you'll protect me, right cinnabar~? ❞ / @ohdiscity
