So gojo saturo, the teacher who dissents from jujutsu traditions by giving a fuck abt his students, and while watching the “dissecting ryomen sukuna” video i came across the “tridev” parallels so naturally my first instinct was- “Hey who does Gojo parallel with in hindu mythos” (i do recommend watching the video to get a better grasp at what i am referring to)
My first instinct was obvs Indra with him being known as the one guy who could DEFINITELY not follow shiva (sukuna) because he was too attached to the “moh” (material connections) and the “moh” for gojo was his students in a way, along with the very obviously eye imagery around indra and the KING OF THE GODS label (Indra’s name is also purundhara AKA thousand eyed = Gojo’s 6 eyes)
Now Six eyes, hold onto that, 6 hmm isn’t the number six associated with SHUKRA (and this is where my ACTUAL parallels start)
Shukra
So disclaimer, if anything comes off as too “OH THE DEVAS WERE BAD” chill im not saying that, more exploring things from shukra’a perspective.
So his parallels obviously start with the number 6 and its association to shukra. But the six eyes is also where it truly starts. So shukra was blinded once for and BY his students (yes yes)
So what happened was vishnu (tengen) took the form of vamana (a dwarf) to trick bali (shukra’s student) into giving up the trilok (heaven earth and underworld) after he won them fair and square from the gods. So bali is an asura who are like a type of immortal mostly alligned against the devas (aka gods) and shukra is seen as their “guru” (teacher)
So bali is a benevolent king, TOO benevolent, so he says yes not realising the trick, and goes ahead with vamana’s wish for three steps worth of land, and goes to wash his feet even after shukra warning him something was afoot. And this is where the blinding happens, so shukra turns into a fly to stop the water from flowing, after which bali blinds him accidentally by poking him.
SO He is blinded by his student in an attempt to save him, now this with gojo how? Well bali can be seen as Yuji, a benevolent and kind to a fault being being tricked by tengen and jujutsu society’s cycle of curses and exploitation of children, and in an attempt to prevent it gojo’s efforts have him blinded by “his student” or killed by his student AKA megumi.
NOW WHILE ON THE TOPIC OF SUKUNA-
So yall know how theres a theory that sukuna WAS mononobe tengoku in the jjk verse? (Again check out The senshin’s video for the exact explaination but mostly related to the urban legend origins of sukuna)
So the mononobe clan were allied with the nakatomi clan, the ancestors of the fujiwara, AKA the ancestors of saturo AND yuuta.
Now shiva and sukuna parallels are MANY, from the 4 arms, to the trident, to the role of destructor and the end of the cycle personified.
BUT the connection of shukra and shiva is the point of focus here. So shukra was the son of rishi bhrigu and by shenanigans (multiple versions) he was quite literally SWALLOWED (technically eaten- sukuna’s cannibalism anyone?) by shiva. After which he was released, and was known as shiva’s son as well, paralleling the mononobe-fujiwara progenitor-successor relationship of Gojo and sukuna.
BUT theres more, so in the battle between both of them we see how gojo’s reversed cursed technique is on parr with sukuna’s. Now this is a stretch BUT it links well with their parallels, reversed cursed technique is similar to the sanjeevni vidya taught to shukra by shiva, it is an extremely restricted knowledge only known by the shiva family AND one guy who tricked shukra into teaching him (lowkey yuji coded but long story). Though obviously the major flaw of this take is that sanjeevni vidya and sukuna and gojo’s reversed cursed technique are the opposite majorly because you can only do the vidya on others and not yourself and their technique is only for them.
Now another thing, shukra is one of the only devas i can think of who genuinely reincarnated. Not only from the shiva swallowing him affair, but genuinely has gone through the cycle of samsara, and came out of it as The ShukraTM. This directly parallels with Gojo’s two rebirths. The first one can be acredited to a sacrifice of sorts, a resurrection because of his love and affection (platonic in gojo’s case) for rika. Which in turn gets paralleled to shukra’s first love and the reason for his “death” vishwachi. Both of these end up with him coming back from death.
Now the SECOND rebirth parallels way better. The prison realm and shiva’s stomach, with both shukra and gojo being trapped in them to stop them from helping their students (ITS TRUE SHUKRA IS LITERALLY EATEN BY SHIVA TO STOP HIM FROM RESURRECTING PEOPLE ITS HILARIOUS)
THERES MORE SURFACE LEVEL LINKS:
Both are associated with the color white and luxury (gojo with his generational wealth and shukra as a planet presiding over luxury)
Both are contradicted by another “guru” (teacher) who supports the other side (jujutsu society’s BS by the higher ups and Brihaspati with the devas)
