There’s a spark of wonder in his eyes as his flames shiver to life, lips parted in awe as they crackle and spark. Amazing. He’s always seen fire magic–it’s not really rare after all–but seeing it this up close, feeling the heat… it’s tantalizing in a way he’s never thought about before. His heart thuds for danger, and his eyes quickly go up to Lea’s before he pulls away and brushes past him.

Riku follows, though not without a glance behind him, worried–feeling like he’s on display.

Lea, however, is a flame, and Riku is a moth, and he can’t stop his body from following him.

If he could, Riku reasons, maybe this wouldn’t have happened.

“You’re really powerful,” he notes, with a bit of surprise as he follows him, the tingle beneath his bones making sure he knows just how much strength Lea has in his magic. “Didn’t expect that from you,” it’s out of his mouth before he realizes how rude it is, and he starkly sputters. “Not–I just–expected people with strong fire magic to be, y’know… since it’s one of the basic elements… I really didn’t think you’d be surrounded by alcohol of all things.”

Why can’t he stop his mouth from going? It’s like Lea’s pulling on his heart, making it dance on puppetstrings, dancing on his heartstrings, and it’s so distracting from the menu.

Still, a latte and coffee cake shouldn’t be too hard. He just hopes he avoids more blunders.

He’s expelling a long breath as he takes his seat, faltering just enough that his chair scrapes a grating sound across the shiny wood of the floor. His chest’s tight, like his ribs are squeezing his heart - a far sight from his usual carefree date attitude. But then, this date was never going to be like his others, was it? Fingers are just barely restrained from tapping against the table when he responds, “Nah, I get what you mean. It’s cool.” And a grin is thrown Riku’s way, just a little bit teasing, because he’s cute when he’s fumbling his words. He’d be cute doing anything, Lea thinks, and grits his teeth. “Uh, guess you could say my boss trusts me. And I happen to be pretty decent with control. Aaaaand, truth be told, my boss is a dampener, or whatever ya wanna call it. He can put abilities out. If I lost control, boom, he’d cut off my power. Pretty handy for a bar owner.” God, this is not date conversation. Lea’s game is all off. He dredges up his most flirtatious grin ( one intended to drag Riku’s attention away from his menu ) and murmurs, “So the bar patrons are safe from me. Not certain I can say the same for you, gorgeous.” He strokes the back of Riku’s hand, across the ridges of knuckles. Just a feather-light graze of a fingertip. Flame ignites, a spark against skin, and he yanks his hand back and tries to smile like he totally meant to do that. He’s going to have to say something. ‘We’re soulmates’. Yeah, totally simple. There’s an easy damn discussion.
