heat.
it was hot. the sun was beating down onto your skin, your hair sticking to the back of your neck. pulled into relaxation by the faint chatter of your friends around you and the lingering taste of rum on your tongue, any and all stresses left your mind as your body surrendered into the sun lounger.
your eyes were closed behind your sunglasses, but you knew who had come to join you as soon as he wrapped his hand around your ankle. he was the only one who wore a ring on almost every finger.
“what’re you doing?” he was dripping water onto your legs, still soaked from the pool.
“napping, what does it look like?” his hand had moved up your leg, coming to rest on your knee. he was touchy, but usually that was restricted to throwing an arm around your shoulders or mussing up your hair - not running a hand up and down your bare leg.
“looks like you could go for a swim,
“no, i think i’m good here,
“oh yeah?,” his body twisted, one arm sliding underneath your back, the other behind the backs of your knees.
“yeah, that means ‘remove your fucking hands’ calum,
“does it? haven’t heard that before,” there was no use; you had already been hoisted up to his chest.
“calum, i swear to god, do not drop me in the pool,
“or what, huh? you gonna punch me? surely you’ve figured out that you can’t take me by now,” he was right, you had nothing on him.
“can you at least walk me in gently? like, in the romance movies where they walk into the sunset,” a laugh rumbles from his chest, almost letting you out of his arms when he bends over.
“sure kid, just like the movies,”
“hey, roomie,”
someone had fucked up. the villa you were staying in was a bedroom short; how this had happened, you had no idea. coincidentaly, you and calum were the only two singles on the trip; leaving you both to share the remaining bed.
“oh, hey, i thought you went out with the others,” they had all tried to coax you into joining them at a bar in town. you were tired, not as used to travelling as the rest of them.
“couldn’t have you sitting here all by yourself, could i? might get lonely,
“i would have been fine, cal, jus’ gonna have some wine and go to bed,” you felt bad. you knew he enjoyed the energy that came along with sitting in a bar, whiskey in hand, surrounded by friends.
“well, let’s crack open that bottle then,”
three glasses of wine later, your head lay in calum’s lap as he leant up against the headboard.
“favourite way to wind down after a long day?
“this list is bullshit, where’re you reading this from?
“cosmo; 200 questions to get to know someone,” you already knew almost everything about him, as did he about you.
“i’ve got one. favourite position?” you halted halfway through your sip of wine. what the fuck?
“you’re such a guy,” a silent pause rang through the room, “on top, i guess,”
“surprising,
“the fuck is that supposed to mean?
“you don’t strike me as the type to put in a lot of effort during sex. i’m not saying it’s a bad thing, kid, some guys like that,” you couldn’t help but laugh; here you were, sitting with one of your closest friends, talking about sex - which, despite what many people thought, wasn’t a popular conversation topic between the two of you.
“fuck off, i put in heaps of effort. do you like that?” he lets out a hum of confusion, his tipsy mind having already lost track of the conversation.
“do you like it when girls just lay there?
“depends on the mood, i guess. like, sometimes i jus’ wanna ravish someone, and sometimes i’m too tired, but i would rather have sex than not, y’know?” ravish? what a poet.
“so, if you could have sex with anyone right now, who would it be?
“can’t tell you that, peach,
“why not? is it because it’s my mum? you know i love you but even thats too weird—” he cuts you off with a chuckle and a light smack to your arm.
“s’not your mum, freak, jus’ worried you’ll think i’m weird if i tell you,” was he serious?
“cal, i already think you’re weird, nothing will change that. tell me who it is,” and, in the quietest voice you’ve ever heard from him,
“you,”
