If Alysa were to be asked what season she would be, she would most likely answer that she was more of a winter girl than any of the other seasons. Winter always gave Alysa the feeling that time had functioning breaks, and it was the good kind of slow that gives her time to think. I mean, we all know the other reason why. She has skated on ice for almost her entire life and she's damn good at it (of course).
Her comeback is so damn good, it was awe-inspiringly terrific: Alysa won the ISU World Championships 2025 in Boston and continued to impress by achieving two Olympic medals in the Winter Olympic Games 2026, all on her own terms. The real achievement here is Alysa realizing that life wasn't all about skating, and that there was a free space for self-expression and freedom.
Alysa came for fun and artistry. Alysa saw her capability in her own way. Then Alysa conquered. Both the Olympics and the internet.
After making such a huge impact on the world, Alysa could use a little break from the fame and the ice. Like she said, if you need a break, take a breath. It was nothing too special to celebrate, just something very Alysa-like. For Alysa, every moment with her friends was personal, and it meant a lot, more than a medal could ever give.
For a winter girl like Alysa, her vibe naturally connects with the summer season. The second she arrived back home, the first thing she did was to plan a rendezvous with her friendsâa moment to catch up and to give her spirit a splash of college life along with her buddies. It was just the life she wanted. So then it's settled: a bay trip!
The hangout happened just two days after Alysa arrived home for her short post-Olympic break. She and her brother, Justin, were heading to the spot where she was supposed to meet with her friends. A sunny bay somewhere in San Francisco that she had previously visited. Except, it wasnât sunny when they arrived there; it was moderately dark and cloudy, though it doesnât look like it would rain. It was just breezy and humid.
Alysa had chosen this spot specifically for the vibe and to satisfy her itch to see a body of water after skating over frozen liquid for the entire Olympic season. You wouldnât consider that as water, since it had turned solid, of course. So, that was her reason. Besides, the bays in the Bay Area just gave off a summery-sweater-weather vibe that was worth experiencing and for her to take pictures to share on Instagram, her own digital memory lane.
And in Alysaâs experience, meeting you wasnât on her list of things to expect from this day. Actually, her encounter with you could possibly be a contender in her top five scariest moments she had ever experienced in her life.
Alysa and Justin arrived minutes earlier than any of their other friends in the bay. They walked around the sand, took a couple of pictures to update their friends, and set up a beach mat not too far away from the road but close enough to the water. When Justin was busy with the beach mat, Alysa wandered further west.
That was when she spotted a pair of sunglasses on the sand.
At first, Alysa didnât care at all. It was probably something that someone had lost, since the water washed all sorts of things up on the shore. She looked closer anyway. Maybe the person who lost it was still nearby.
That was when she spotted you.
Panic immediately filled her senses when she saw your body lying on the sand, with the waves washing over and submerging you each time the water hugged the shore. To add to her fright, you were lying perfectly flat on your back with your arms crossed over your chest in an âXâ shape. Definitely creepy and unsettling on her part.
To Alysa, it looked like you drowned.
But you were only just enjoying yourself, in your peaceful nap.
âOh my god, oh my god!â Alysa exclaimed.
Alysa rushed over with frantic murmurs to herself, dropping her phone onto the sand beside your sunglasses that were now untouched by the waves. She dropped to her knees by your side, not caring if her clothes got wet as she shook you to see if you were alive. âHey, hey! Are you still with me?!â
When you didnât answer, that was when Alysa began to seriously freak out. The only thing she could think of was to save you with CPR. But this was also her first and last attempt, because she swore she would never set foot on the sand and water again if you died on her. A thrilling first time for everything, eh?
Your eyes snapped open from your nap when you felt your whole body and soul being shaken to life, with someoneâs lips hovering over yours, preparing to do an emergency lifesaving procedure when you were actually not deadâbut oh well! âWhatâstop! Iâm not dead!â you called out, startled.
Alysa was both shocked and relieved that you were alive, even if the whole confusion led to her panicked ass planted in the sand, her lower body completely soaked.
âJesus Christ! I thought you were dead!â Alysa accused, her chest heaving from how long she had held her breath out of worry. âWho the fuck lies down on the sand like theyâre dead?!â She whined, still too shocked to pull herself up from the water.
You stared at her for a moment. You thought you were dreaming because you had opened your eyes to a beautiful girl attempting to save you, like a queer version of Sleeping Beauty. But you couldnât blame her for freaking out , because seriously, who lies down like that? Not to mention taking a nap while you were literally still being washed over by the waves. Even a normal person and God know youâd end up in the middle of the ocean once you woke up.
âApparently, me,â you answered with the utmost guilt in your gut. Alysaâs expression is filled with genuine worry and frustration. âCrazy, right? I feel so Wednesday Addams right now, minus the braids.â You managed to add a little humor to the whole situation, but you were half serious.
âInstead of a morgue, Iâd take five minutes to lie down on the cold shore like my own personal grave.â Your answer was clearly coming from a crazy person. âI felt heavily inspired. Iâm sorry.â
âNo worries. I just thoughtâyâknow. I just wanted to help.â Alysa felt more embarrassed than she already wasâmostly for you rather than herself now. She would admit that you were her kind of weird and funny. But for a second, she genuinely thought you were losing your mind. âThen youâre literally digging your own grave if you keep doing this.â Alysa scolded.
âDo you mean sink to my own grave?â You corrected her scolding with a smile. âIâm joking. But I donât mind being saved again.â You looked directly at Alysa, your words unmistakably teasing her.
"You're so weird, what the hell," she laughed. Her words weren't offensive to you; it even felt like a compliment. To her, 'weird' was the perfect word to describe her first impression of you. Just how weird meeting you was.
âSays the girl with the weirdest hairstyle,â you countered when you saw how unique her hair looked. It was the highlight of her whole look. âNo offense, itâs cool.â You quickly withdrew your words when you realized how well she carried herself. âLike a chocolate vanilla popsicle.â
Alysa couldnât think of anything to reply to your comment about her hair and how adorably you described it. She thought that it was the most honest and silly way to put it.
âYou might wanna get off the water, itâs cold,â Alysa suggested getting off the water first when itâs uncomfortably cold and her land clothes are soaked. Alysaâs eyes took a good look at you.
You are dressed in a black tank top bikini and some boy shorts, not so perfect for the cold weather, but you wanted to go for a dip, so who cares? Alysa noticed no tan lines, just a girl wearing swimwear, but she was certain that you were someone who liked being around the water. Apparently, just a very weird one. âUnless you plan to be buried there longer?â
âNah. I think my five minutes are up.â You stood up from the water after Alysa did, washing the sand off your legs. You could feel Alysaâs eyes still boring into you, and you couldnât ignore that feeling in your stomach. There was just something about her that was seriously appealing. It made your heart beat faster.
For Alysa, something about you had made her forget why she was even there. Maybe you were the reason why she wanted to go see the sea and experience the most odd, organic encounter ever. Her friends were probably wondering where she had gone. What couldâve distracted Alysa from their plans? Everything is going out of her plan! But she ainât letting a pretty girl like you escape from her sight.
Before you turned to leave, Alysa grabbed you by the arm. You couldnât believe what you had watched in summer romance movies was actually happening to you, just without the angsty vibe it usually gave. It mightâve looked cringe and clichĂ©, but it felt entirely different from your perspective.
âHeyâwait.â Alysa kept her hold on your arm; her hand was surprisingly warm despite the cold weather. Then, her eyes met yours in a dangerously captivating way. You couldnât explain what those eyes of hers did to you, but you knew for sure that you couldnât ignore her effortless charm.
The wind blew over the two of you, leaving her hair fluttering against her forehead. Yet she still looked beautiful and cool. Alysa brushed the hair off her face with her fingers and blinked at you. Alysa still gave off that confident aura, but she couldnât help but feel a little nervous as she asked. âDid you come here alone?â
Your eyes narrowed at her, as if you seemed to understand her words backwards, interpreting them in a completely different way. "Yes. But I have friendsâI'm not an outcast, if that's what you're asking."
Alysa paused to rethink. Her hand dropped from your arm and back to her side while she was questioning what she had said to make you clarify your answer like that, she might think she was being mean. "Whatâno! That's not what I meantâ"
"Oh, you meant to ask if I'm single." You cut her off with your realization, which only made things worse as you saw how red her face was turning. You smiled and delivered your most practiced lineâeven if there was technically no question to answer it to, and this didn't count. "Well, yes. I am quite available. But I guess not for long."
âI wasnât evenâyou made it worse.â Alysa shook her head to lose the flustered expression she made, a silly smile finding its way to her lips. Perhaps this whole situation was just amusing and natural to her. âBut I suppose I could use that information.â
âFor what?â you asked, raising a brow at her. It was a challenge for Alysa, a way to see if she could keep up with your energy, and you were eager for her answer.
âI donât know.â Alysa shrugged, taking another good look over your frame as she tried to find the words to describe how you looked to her. A warning, though. She wasnât really good at this. Despite being a strong, elite athlete, she was still a shy girl. Besides, dating had never been her priority, but you seemed to change that for her. âYou seem too cool to be single.â
Alysa rethought her words again. âNot likeâliterallyâthe kind of cool like cold, cold. Okay?â She clarified, preventing you from getting the wrong idea again. âYouâre too fine to ignore.â She finally admits.
âI get what you mean.â You laughed lightly at her words, finding her irresistible and adorable. âYou spotted me and thought I drowned. Sounds impossible to ignore a floating, fine corpse. You da real hero,â you teased, bringing up the awkward way the two of you had met.
"Wow, I feel so honored," Alysa replied with a laugh and began to take a few steps toward you. âI can live up to that title.â
âSure you do.â You smiled at Alysa. When you look over her shoulder, you catch a glimpse of a few people waving their hands at the two of you. It seemed that Alysa had forgotten about her friends, totally distracted by you.
When Alysa noticed how far your gaze had gone, she turned around to see for herself. Her friends, who clearly felt abandoned by her, were dramatically motioning for her to join them across the sand where they had finished setting up the spot. âOh, shit. That completely slipped my mind.â
If you thought this was the moment your paths would part and probably never see each other again, you were wrong. Because Alysa had modified her plans, and she included you in them. âSince youâre here alone, do you mind joining us?â
Well, as for you, you tended to get shy being in a large circle of people, especially with people you didn't know. You weren't about to miss this chance, not when it came to this girl. Hell, you didn't even know each other's names yet, and she was already inviting you to join her with her friends. This must have been fate.
"Yeah, sure. I don't mind at all," you answered softly. You go girl. You were doing this for yourself, and for the sake of your ass not being single anymore. For the cherry on top, Alysa was definitely more interested than she looked. You followed behind Alysa when she made her way toward her friends.
"I'm Alysa, by the way," she said, introducing herself with a bit of hesitation. She was bearing in mind that she could still be identified as the famous ice skater and Olympic champion, Alysa Liu, rather than just a normal person. Though it wouldn't take a second for a fan to recognize her for her iconic hair. If you had been a fan, you would've treated her like the superstar that she was.
Except that you were completely clueless that she was a famous person. You just nodded and told her your name. No freaking out, no overhyped reactions, nothing at all to remind Alysa that she was famous. That was exactly the feeling she needed.
âTook you long enough to make proper introductions,â you teased, like you were best friends alreadyâeven though both of you were planning to break the friendship phase the second you had met. That was how fast the sparks flew. Just like a flash. Not one of you was complaining. It was a pretty thrilling feeling.
âI mean, a proper one would offset the awkward way we met,â Alysa retorted to your teasing as both of you walked side by side. âActual names are better than âknockoff Wednesday Addamsâ and âvanilla chocolate popsicle girl.ââ
âHey! At least yours has a nice ring to it,â You whined, protesting the ridiculous nicknames while you gesture at her hair. (get it? blonde halos!)
âBut I still donât wanna be called funny nicknames either. So itâs settled.â Alysa replied proudly. It sounded as if she had solved a global conflict. âI shall be Alysa and you shall be you.â
The playful exchanges between you and Alysa hadnât ended right away and continued as you reached her circle of friends. To save you the trouble, Alysa introduced you to her friends. Laughter instantly filled the air when she told everyone the hilarious way the two of you met.
And that is where the story of âknockoff Wednesday Addamsâ and âvanilla chocolate popsicle girlâ ends.
You thought it was over? Absolutely not! It was just over for those ridiculous nicknames.
That was just the beginning.
The next thing you knew was how close you and Alysa had become. Like a pair of ice skates! You couldnât skate on ice with a missing one. Unless youâre built differently? Whatever.
It didnât take a week for both of you to know each other's entire life stories, because the two of you were equally passionate and vocal about your interests and hobbies. It really wasnât hard to get to know Alysaâand it wasnât hard to love her, as well. You began to fall for her, pretty damn quick.
Alysa shared the same sentiment, even falling much harder for you. It got to the point where she was picturing herself on a date with you, all while she was busy chewing on her Olympic gold medal. She was just making herself feel at home around the people she loved before she had to transition into a professional athlete and artist again.
Right then, Alysa was giggling at her phone like a teenager in love instead of a fully functioning young adult. But hey, forgive a girl who was enamored.
After all that talking and being on each otherâs screensânever knowing the exact reactions you both made. Alysa and you tossed your phones aside to process this whole thing between you. It excited you both, wondering what all of this might mean. Because the chemistry was totally undeniable.
Because Alysa was ready to catch you if you fell, in every possible way. Literally and physically.
So, you ready for the cold, summergirl?
