NHPC’s 12,832 MW gap shows why awarded renewable capacity is not the same as built capacity

NHPC has won an enormous amount of renewable capacity. The uncomfortable detail is that 12,832 MW still lacks the sale agreements that lenders normally need. The total comprises 1,812 MW awarded in FY2024 and 11,020 MW awarded in FY2025.

The awards demonstrate NHPC's ability to win scale, while the missing contracts show that procurement can outrun electricity demand decisions.

These megawatts are waiting

The 12,832 MW figure is best understood as work still to be done. Every signed sale contract would move part of it from possibility toward construction.

A profitable distillery cannot refinance the group by itself

Shree Renuka’s distillery improved. Its liquidity gap did not disappear. Those facts must be read together, not blended into a turnaround slogan.

Long-term loans are guaranteed by Wilmar, working-capital facilities carry a letter of comfort and the company cites a support letter in preparing accounts on a going-concern basis. Sponsor backing is therefore a substantive part of the financing bridge rather than a background shareholder detail.

A distillery can improve EBITDA while the group still requires cash for cane, inventory, interest and creditor payments. Refinery weakness, working-capital needs and negative net worth sit outside the segment result. Financial repair requires recurring operating cash, refinancing or capital support that reduces the gap over time.

The India angle is the linkage between sugar, ethanol, refinery economics and seasonal working capital. It is not a generic claim about the entire sugar industry. At Shree Renuka, the operating assets matter, but the near-term credit analysis also depends on continued access to Wilmar-backed funding.

Conclusion: the turnaround has two clocks. Distillery performance can move quickly; a Rs 36.9 billion current-liability gap cannot. Shree Renuka’s strongest proof will be cash that reduces dependence on sponsor-backed facilities.

NTPC's long-range plan reaches 244 GW by 2037, but the revealing part is the mix: renewables, storage and nuclear has to grow alongside a still-expanding thermal fleet. A target this big is not one construction programme. Diversification too multiplies execution interfaces.

Put simply, the 244 GW figure is best read as a test of portfolio management. In everyday terms, compare annual commissioning and cash deployment with the 2032 pathway, and watch how much of the 22–52 GWh battery target receives contracted revenue.

Vishnu Chemicals improved its product mix as delivered cost became harder to control

Vishnu Chemicals reported first-quarter operating revenue of Rs 433.4 crore, up 24.9%, EBITDA of Rs 65.5 crore, up 17.5%, and PAT of Rs 39.6 crore, up 23%. The result came despite a maintenance shutdown of nearly one month at Vizag. Exports accounted for 55% of revenue.

Management said India-to-Latin America freight increased from roughly USD 3,000-4,000 to nearly USD 9,000 in three months, while Africa freight doubled from about USD 3,500 to USD 7,500. That makes logistics a margin variable rather than a footnote. Higher-value chromium derivatives, optimum barium utilisation and rapid strontium growth can support profitability, but only if delivered-cost inflation is passed through or offset.

Vishnu’s quarter demonstrates why growth can change the risk map. The company is larger, more specialised and more international; it is therefore also more sensitive to delivered cost and overseas execution. The export story remains attractive, but its durability will be measured after logistics—not before them.

The margin claim inside Asian Paints’ VAE build

Asian Paints has begun the first phase of its vinyl-acetate-monomer and vinyl-acetate-ethylene programme and is targeting about 150,000 tonnes of VAE capacity over 2–2.5 years. Management estimates a 300–500-basis-point margin benefit on products affected by the integration. It is not guidance for the company’s total EBITDA margin.

This is an India-specific industrial move because a major domestic coatings producer is internalising a chemical input chain at meaningful scale. It can deepen local demand for feedstocks and technical capability. It should not be described as proof that all Indian VAM or VAE imports will disappear; merchant-market exposure and internal consumption remain to be disclosed.

Conclusion: Asian Paints has put a measurable claim around backward integration, which makes the project testable. The Indian value lies in converting imported-input exposure into reliable domestic chemistry. Success requires 150,000 tonnes of capacity to earn through utilisation and realised savings—not through a company-wide margin slogan.

PPGCL’s nearly complete FGD system is stranded between environmental compliance and tariff consent

A quick explanation of a power story with a much wider economic effect: PPGCL told UPERC that roughly 90% of an estimated Rs. 1,500-crore FGD system has been spent while shutdown consent needed for integration remains withheld.

What sits behind it? The generator says about Rs. 1,350 crore is already deployed and that UPPCL disputes change-in-law treatment following the plant’s ownership change.

The complication is that uPERC has admitted the petition and ordered a response, but has not approved the cost, shutdown or tariff recovery.

So the issue is not only technical. A nearly completed environmental asset cannot deliver emissions benefits or cash recovery until outage coordination and contractual responsibility are resolved.

India added a record 64,695 MW, but the bottleneck is moving closer to the consumer

India added a record 64,695 MW of generation in FY26, including 50,905 MW of renewable capacity excluding large hydro. Yet distribution-transformer capacity still has to rise from about 895 GVA to 1,135 GVA by 2030. The national capacity story is accelerating; the last-mile system must now absorb and deliver it across thousands of dispersed assets. RDSS has sanctioned Rs 1.53 lakh crore for loss-reduction infrastructure and Rs 1.31 lakh crore for smart metering. Those allocations are large, but completion and operating outcomes - not sanctions - decide whether the record build lowers losses, improves voltage and reduces interruptions.

PCBL’s Nanovace has reached the pilot gate. India’s silicon-carbon customer test now begins.

PCBL’s Nanovace pilot has Consent to Operate for R&D. A brokerage reports a possible 2,000-tonne commercial plant by the end of FY27.

The missing piece is customer validation. In advanced battery materials, permission to operate is not proof of performance, yield or repeat orders. The next milestone belongs to the customer, not the regulator.

The Rs 179 crore lifeline confronting a Rs 203.79 crore quarterly finance bill

BGR Energy’s promoters may provide up to Rs 179 crore. In the June quarter, finance cost was Rs 203.79 crore against operating revenue of Rs 15.30 crore.

Auditors flagged material going-concern uncertainty, and NARCL assignment terms remain unfinished. The facilities can buy time and may convert into securities. The harder test is operational: whether revenue and cash generation can recover enough that promoter money stops functioning as a bridge over the same financing gap.

The 27-month clock is only phase one

BHEL's Lakhanpur contractor must complete EPC in 27 months, then operate and maintain the handling system for five years. That places performance responsibility beyond seven years. Separate supply, installation and O&M orders remain indivisible, with cross-default linking them. Rs 3 crore EMD, no consortium, no deviations and no reverse auction tighten entry conditions. The winning price must fund engineering, working capital, spares and operating reliability, because overrun compensation is excluded and one weak interface can affect every connected order.

Epigral is building scale; qualification will decide the returns

Epigral’s Q1 revenue rose 15% to Rs 709 crore, but gross and EBITDA margins narrowed. The company is expanding CPVC, epichlorohydrin and epoxy capacity. The strategic goal is to lift derivatives and specialties from about 52% of revenue to roughly 70% by FY28. Customer qualification and utilisation will decide whether the mix shift pays.

ROCE has already fallen to 16% as projects build. Watch commissioning, approved grades, repeat orders, spreads and cash flow—not capacity announcements alone.

The real milestone is a qualified product sold repeatedly at a spread that restores returns on the capital now being installed.

Coromandel’s fertiliser and crop-protection businesses pulled in opposite directions

Coromandel’s fertiliser profit fell while crop-protection profit rose 44%. The two businesses pulled the quarter in opposite directions.

The result shows why segment mix matters. Fertiliser economics were squeezed, while crop protection provided the counterweight and a different earnings cycle.

The key question is whether crop-protection strength can keep offsetting pressure in fertilisers.

Zero Tonnes, 86 Per Cent

How does India's largest coal station generate at 86 per cent plant load factor with an empty yard? By buying the day's burn on the day. Sasan UMTPP, 3,960 MW, reported 0.0 thousand tonnes of coal on 25 July against a 661.6 thousand-tonne norm, having gone 10.3 to 5.3 to zero across three days on a 47.3 thousand-tonne daily burn. CEA's remark each day was that the plant should lift coal from its captive mine. Nationally, 27 plants were critical and the pile fell 415.2 thousand tonnes in 48 hours.

Why the natural-rubber floor is still holding

Natural rubber is not falling. Three signs say so. CEAT's FY26 report calls rubber prices volatile but 'moderated in the second half,' with rubber about 53% of its raw-material basket. Recycler GRP Ltd saw its Rubber Recycling segment result rise 71% to Rs 19.23 crore in Q1 FY27. Asian futures held firm, with Osaka near 421.6 yen/kg. Oil at a six-week high on shipping risk is lifting synthetic grades, while soft China tyre demand pulls back. For India, input cost is off its peak but not cheap.

Forced to Float

India is about to list its first gas exchange — because the law leaves no choice. IEX owns 47.3% of the Indian Gas Exchange, and gas-exchange rules cap any owner at 25%. So IGX filed to go public on 14 July, and IEX will sell about 22.3% through an offer for sale. The twist: IEX is doing this while thriving, with June-quarter net profit near Rs 134.8 crore on a record 37.5 billion units traded. It is not offloading a dud. It is being made to part with one of its best assets, at the moment that asset looks strongest.

When the price turned, the profit followed

Primo Chemicals makes caustic soda in Punjab, and its FY26 result is really about one number. Its ECU realisation, the net price per tonne of caustic soda and its co-products, recovered from a Rs 33,959 low in FY24 to Rs 42,698 in FY26. Profit more than quadrupled, to Rs 10.56 crore from Rs 2.35 crore. Because power is about 54% of its costs, a modest price rise drops fast into profit. Separately, CareEdge reaffirmed then withdrew its rating, at the company's request.
