NHPC’s 12,832 MW gap shows why awarded renewable capacity is not the same as built capacity
NHPC has won an enormous amount of renewable capacity. The uncomfortable detail is that 12,832 MW still lacks the sale agreements that lenders normally need. The total comprises 1,812 MW awarded in FY2024 and 11,020 MW awarded in FY2025.
The awards demonstrate NHPC's ability to win scale, while the missing contracts show that procurement can outrun electricity demand decisions.
These megawatts are waiting
The 12,832 MW figure is best understood as work still to be done. Every signed sale contract would move part of it from possibility toward construction.
