The Thousand Hand Bodhisattva Dance
Performed by China Disabled People’s Performing Art Troupe, the Thousand Hand dance is a portrayal of Guan Yin (Chinese: 觀音菩薩), an East Asian spiritual figure of mercy, the Goddess of Mercy, and a bodhisattva associated with compassion.
The thousand hands represent Guan Yin’s many abilities to render assistance. There are a thousand eyes on these hands which give her great powers to observe the world. Guan Yin also has many faces so she can become who people need her to be, not necessarily herself, because her help is given in a way that is literally selfless.
All members of the dance troupe are hearing impaired.

名桜エイサー
Eisā (エイサー) is a form of folk dance originating from the Okinawa Islands, Japan. In origin it is a Bon dance that is performed by young people of each community during the Bon festival to honor the spirits of their ancestors. However, it underwent drastic changes in the 20th century and is today seen as a vital part of Okinawan culture.

Ainu Musical Heritage ::: Presented by the Ainu People’s Museum
——————
The Ainu are an ethnic minority of Japan, now found mostly in the northern regions (namely, Hokkaido), though historically they also occupied further south. Though, due to Japanese law, they are not regarded as an official minority and are legally considered ethnically Japanese, they have a strikingly different culture and musical heritage.
This is a show put on by the Ainu People’s Museum in Hokkaido showcasing various types of dance or song. Currently there are an estimated 10 native speakers of the Ainu language, and there have been many (unfunded) attempts to revive the language and culture in modern Japanese society.
——————
The dances are, in order:
Kurmse - 弓の舞 - Dance of the bow
Ihunke - 子守唄 - Traditional ainu lullaby
Tonkori - 五弦琴 - Ainu-style koto song
Mukkuri - 口琴 - Ainu-style mouth harp song
Pirka Song - ピリカの歌 - A traditional Ainu song
Iyomante Rimse - 熊の霊送りの踊り - Bear Sending Ceremony Ritual Dance
