THE SWEETNESS IN HER LAUGH made him smile , even though it stayed small . it seemed rare to come across someone who still laughed like that . ❛ i’m very sorry you wasted your time . ❜ julian teased her back before he chuckled under his breath . ❛ of course you would say that . the problem is , i’m not sure if i can trust you . what if those pralines make me fall hopelessly in love ? ❜
he gave her a nod when she talked about the reputation of her kind . there were many things that he heard about warlocks and not all of them were good . far from it . a lot of them would do anything for a price , no matter how morally questionable it was . ❛ alright . so we are looking for something that might not exist . ❜ the thought made him sigh , but he tapped the counter a couple of times before he went on . ❛ in my experience , things like that often do exist , after all . ❜ and there had to be a good reason why people were trying hard to hide it , but this female in front of him seemed harmless enough . besides , if he got a look at the grimoire and he thought it might be too dangerous , he always had options , right ?
❛ trap the contents of hell ? ❜ he echoed , hazel eyes flickering back to her face now . ❛ as in … purging the world of all hellbound creatures by trapping them down there ? ❜ now that was something he had to be very , very careful with . he was no demon , but he was turned in hell . it could be bad for him too , but that was not the reason why he worried about this information . ❛ what would you do with it , if you got your hands on it ? ❜ he had to ask . not just for himself , but for the demons he did know . some of them were good people . demons like anastasia would never hurt anyone , just for fun . she did not deserve to be stuck down there for the rest of her existence . she deserved to live , just like her daughter . he could not let them get hurt . ❛ i understand . ❜
feyre’s request was unexpected . there were not a lot of people who wanted this , for various reasons . julian was so used to working alone that he hesitated for a moment , but he finally nodded his head . ❛ we can team up for this , if you prefer . and we can discuss the price once we find the item . ❜
“Ah, now you could hardly blame me for that, could you. Having beautiful people fall hopelessly in love with me is a great burden, but someone has to bear it.”
Feyre watched him digest the information. She could practically see the cogs in his brain working overtime to figure out how best to approach her request. “What do shadowhunters say? All the stories are true?” She wanted to tell him how important finding the volume was, but sometimes it was better to be safe than sorry when it came to sharing information. It was best to stick with what she could share and leave it at that. “Rarely are there rumours of a magical object that are unfounded.”
Feyre had no intention of handing the book over once it was found, but that didn’t mean she planned to use it for the destruction of downworlders. She’d only managed to survive the Shadowhunters war by the skin of her teeth; the last thing she would do was harm what few downworlders were left.
“I mean, trapping the contents of hell would probably be something the spellcaster would be capable of. But the tales I’ve heard are more along the lines of there being summoning spells that could raise the dwellers of hell and bring them to the mortal world. Not that I plan to do that.” She held his gaze long enough for him to hopefully see the sincerity in her eyes.
“That’s not my intention. I don’t want to send anyone to hell any more than they would want to go there. Long story very short, there are mistakes in my past I would like to atone for. Things I would like to undo. I can’t go back and change what I did, but I can make some things better... using some of the spells that are supposedly in the book.” Of course, she couldn’t tell him what she had done, but she could assure him she wouldn’t use it for the destruction of downworlders. “I’m not going to endanger anyone. And when I’m done I’ll happily turn the book over for safe keeping.” Who she’d turn it over to was a bridge they’d have to cross when they came to it.
