Link's Awakening question

OK: I am playing this for the first time, and I'm having a real problem getting into Level 7. There's an Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade jump before the key, but no matter how or leap or where I land, I either just fall straight down or have a little bit of purchase but then slip off, which suggests I need something I don't have, as nothing else in the game is this tetchy-cheap. All the in-game clues are telling me to fool around with the weathervane in the village or lift chickens over my head, but the chickens aren't helping, and I've thrown everything I have at the weathervane, and it's no good. (I suspect the flying comes in with the tower itself, though, after where I'm currently stuck.)

Yes/no, without giving me any clues: is this an isolated instance of something that's really ridiculous I won't get on my own and need to look up?

I'm not watching this playthrough because, given the historical level of TSS discourse and the typical mad rush among SGF stream viewers to spoil every single plot point of the game being played *and* somehow get every single one of those points incorrect, I will drop dead of toxic shock from the sheer among of wrong in the comments. ("Hey, did you know Ghaleon never knew that blah blah blah?!" I'm sure I'd have alcohol poisoning within 15 minutes if I drank every time I saw that in the stream chat.)

But you post a video with Ghal's intro pic entitled "Ghaleon Sends His Regards," and, well, I have a certain level of obligation there.

Park: Come to our beginning birder's session and learn how to identify local birds! Ranger: Hey, did you know there are a number of apps that identify birds? Let's spend this session going through them!

OK, the session wasn't entirely spent on the apps. But I was hoping that the answer to "learn how to ID local birds" wouldn't be, in part, "just outsource it to Google." But that was the biggest hit! Everyone else was really interested in the apps! And I suppose, using the apps, you would, eventually, learn some bird info by osmosis. But, I mean...I don't know, man.
