OK; well, then! Apparently, everything on which I've worked for the past two years is being announced in a three-day window! I was an editor on this game! (And did some translation work, but "Editor" is likely going to be how I'm credited.) If you'd told me as a kid with my SNES copy of FF4 that I'd be working on a Final Fantasy game, I'd...well, be very happy. Which I am. Thank you.

The zoomed-out visual style of that newest Castlevania looks like it's taking major cues from Mirror of Fate, of all things.

ETA complaints: 1) My tags will attest that I love Katsuya Terada, but his art just doesn't work for me in this milieu. 2) Camilla here is a blatant expy of Bloodless from Bloodstained. 3) There's awfully little restraint here for a first-time team's initial crack at a storied, foundational franchise. "We want to define Trevor and Sypha's future and their kid and use Isaac and possibly (rot13) znxr Yrba n ivyynva and set our story squat in a very significant area in the timeline"...maybe they thought they had to swing big for Castlevania's big return, but they haven't proven their story chops yet, and I'd expect a little more humility. This smacks of "we want to redefine the whole franchise to fit our liking," which really doesn't sit well. It's honestly seeming more in my heart that the next big Bloodstained is the real game and this is the pretender.

As someone who was recently in Fukui, this isn't even scratching the surface of how mad the town is for dinosaurs.

For example, here is the outside of the train station:

The last dinosaur has a crab, because the region is known for seafood.

You can even buy coffee emblazoned with dinosaurs!

And that's not even getting into how you get to the nearby Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum. Behold, the Dino-Liner:

Understanding who we are in the universe involves understanding where we come from. How did life begin? As we investigate, we find that the building blocks from which life likely formed, organic (carbon containing) molecules and amino acids, are everywhere in space. In swirling clouds of gas and dust that we analyze spectroscopically, and on the comets and asteroids that our spacecraft have visited. From simple hydrogen and helium created in the Big Bang, the stars have fused the elements and bonded them into the complex molecules necessary for biology over billions of years. The cosmos seems to be primed for life.

This painting and its preliminary study are part of the third annual Character in Context show. The largest exhibition of original illustration in the Western U.S. opening this Friday, June 5th at the A.R. Mitchell Museum of Western Art in Trinidad, Colorado.
