hi everyone! i’m riley, and welcome to my blog <3
this is just a collection of stuff i find interesting, things i’ve learned, and resources for other science nerds to learn some cool stuff :)
my next read :) if anyone’s read it, lemme know what you thought of it!
hello besties <3
i’m sorry it’s been so long since i’ve shared anything, but i wanted to hop on to share a little update :) i am now, officially, a microbiologist !!!
while i will not be sharing any details of my job, for privacy reasons, im going to try to become active on here again 🫶🏻
hello indolentinsect nation !!
i wanted to share that earlier this month, i graduated with my BS in biology!!
now that i’ve graduated, im on the hunt for a job and im not sure what is going to come of this page. posting will for sure be slow and i will not be sharing any details of my job on here. perhaps i will just share occasional papers and posts that i find interesting.
if you have any suggestions, lmk!💗
What is your favorite biology fact?
the fact that there’s a protein called sonic hedgehog protein
hello indolentinsect nation ‼️
i just wanted to say thank you for 7k followers <3 y’all are so cool
i’m not sure what will come of this blog when i graduate but we’ll see what happens :)
i got this book yesterday and i’m so excited to read it!! lister was the pioneer of antiseptic techniques in medicine and surgery and since i love microbio, this is super interesting to me :)
if anyone’s read it, let me know what you thought!
who done put the trash can on top of the media cabinet
i am but a misfolded protein and every minor inconvenience i encounter is a ubiquitin, bringing me one step closer to the proteosome
spent my morning doing some culturing 🦠
my technique definitely needs some work, so i’m thankful for the practice that i’m getting 💗
some of the species i cultured today were
staph epidermis
bacillus cereus
serratia marcescens
e. coli
pseudomonas aeruginosa
micrococcus luteus
streptococcus agalactiae
hello indolent insect nation‼️
thanks for nearly 7k of you, and i wanted to announce that my last semester is starting on tuesday 1/16, and regular posts will be resuming then!!
thanks for the patience during my breaks from school, as there’s not really much to post about when i’m at home lol

if anyone has any funny bio meme accounts on instagram or whatever pls comment
What advice would you give to someone who is going into microbiology ? Love your blog 😺
thank you! 🫶🏻
for someone going into microbiology, i’d definitely recommend putting effort into your chemistry courses, especially if they’re not your strong suit (i’m not very good at chemistry)
also, take any lab experiences that you can get, even if they’re not micro! any time that you can get into the lab and get your hands dirty (metaphorically speaking) will help you develop your skills!
Hi hi hi! Looooveee your blogs! I'm a first year student in Biochemistry and I wish to ask for some book recommendations?
hello! thank you so much! while i’m not a biochem major, i can definitely recommend Lehninger’s Principles of Biochemistry. i’ve always been told that it’s the bible of biochemistry, but textbooks are also so expensive, so definitely take that into account.
when looking for cheap textbooks, definitely check out ThriftBooks! it’s an online used bookstore where you can find a lot of discounted books of all genres!
bio major freshman currently dealing with being a freshman, your blog really lifted my spirits, like “oh shit that’s what i’m gonna be doing in a few years”
aww thank you 🥹🫶🏻
getting thought the first two years to start getting to the fun stuff can definitely seem daunting or boring, depending on how you look at it, but it really is so worth it!! as someone who had a very rough first year, but has come back from it, i definitely recommend putting your all into those more “basic” classes, because they lay the groundwork for your future endeavors!!
but also know how important it is to take care of yourself during college. academics are obviously very valuable, but without eating properly, sleeping enough, etc, you can’t show up for your academic endeavors the way that i’m sure you want to!
hey, just wanted to say i love your blog - you're such an inspiration! i'm studying life sciences as well and i just love how you explain the lab stuff you do, makes me feel like i'm part of the bio community when i can understand what's going on! 😄🤓
omg i’m sorry i just saw this, but thank you!! it means the world to hear that my silly little lab posts are making a difference, even if it’s just for one person :)
happy end of semester!!
my fall semester is over and i know most people are also either done or finishing up!! congrats to everyone for simply surviving because that’s all we can do lol
this semester was a really difficult one for me, but i only have one left before graduating with my BS. enjoy your winter break and regular content will resume next month <3
until then, it’ll likely be the occasional reblog or posting old pics that never made it here.
