Indra the village leader

Indra the village leader who fearlessly and viciously protects her people

Indra the warrior who trains her mentees with ruthlessness and sharp words but that just means her nods of approval are just all the more meaningful and precious, who knows this and counts on it to make her warriors-in-training both strong and humble

Indra who can outdrink and out-joke any warrior in her village, who smiles menacingly when any new young buck challenges her to an arm wrestling or knife-throwing match (because she only gets better when she’s drunk), who gloats (good-naturedly) over their eventual loss, who laughs so loudly and gorgeously that every time it is as if the whole forest stops to listen

Indra who stops in to visit any villager who is sick, sits with them, passes them food and water, claps them on the shoulder in a way that somehow always bolsters them, as if that one simple touch can pass on her strength onto them

Indra who always visits expectant mothers as/after they are giving birth, to tell them they are doing the bravest and most beautiful thing a human can do, which is to make life, and that they are warriors in their own way too, just that their tools and goals are different

Indra who has little kids trailing after her pretending to be all stoic like she is, because they want to be a great warrior like her and all they notice is her hardness, because they don’t see when her lips curl up into a smile unconsciously when she notices them not-so-subtly mimicking her every move, and they don’t see the love in her eyes when she fondly looks at them when they aren’t looking at her, because she is so proud and touched that she has such brave and willing fighters, age be damned

Modern the 100: Indra the US Sergeant

Indra joined the army as soon as she turned eighteen. She was never particularly patriotic, but she felt a strong sense of duty to fight for her people and to do what was right. When she enlisted her dedication, loyalty, and commitment to the mission moved her quickly through rankings, until she was appointed Sergeant at age 33 making her the youngest black female sergeant at the time.
