I'm inlove but don't have my love here to embrace
i hate when straight women w short haircuts come into my salon and start joking about having a lesbian haircut/requesting short hair that ādoesnāt make them look like a lesbian LOLā
today a straight woman sat down and showed me the picture of the haircut she wanted and she was like āi showed this picture to my husband and he was like āwow are you gonna get a girlfriend nowā haha. i love him heās so ridiculousā
i never know what to say. it feels weird, because i know they say these things to me under the assumption that iām straight. i donāt know how iām supposed to respond. āoh donāt worry, you definitely donāt look like a lesbian!ā or āomg donāt worry i wonāt give you a LESBIAN looking haircut hahaā
i canāt just out myself and play along. i do everything in my power to prevent outing myself to any of my clients.
and it feels like some cruel joke is being played on me, like this is straight humor that women laugh about behind our backs. i mean i know it is. itās just weird being a part of it. i donāt know how to ask straight women to stop joking about butch lesbian haircuts while theyāre in my chair. i donāt know what to do when straight women laugh about looking like a lesbian, i donāt really know how to take that, like if itās a joke at the expense women like me or just harmless commentary. i donāt know what to say, and i canāt bring myself to laugh along with them.
itās not a subject i want to talk about. i know that makes me sensitive, but iāve been through a lot of very traumatic experiences because iām gay. itās humiliating to perform a service for straight women who seem to think thereās something funny about people daring to think they might be gay
This is so wild to read because like.. I live in such a conservative area and in public Iām usually pretty closeted so when ever I get my hair cut at a public salon I try to over compensate by being like āhaha but Iām not gay!! Haha donāt make me look gay because Iām not lol!!! Even tho I 100% am. And I just never considered like oh what if my stylist is also gay???
Personally, I think saying, "don't worry you'll only look like a lesbian if you go around kissing girls, your hair cut doesn't matter!" Is a great response because it's true and doesn't say "hey I'm a lesbian can you not" directly. Also might give some insight to those close minded clients.
Last night I bonded with a coworker it was so nice. We were closing out the store and singing at the top of our lunges lyrics to old 90s-2000s songs. It was a lot of fun
Man eating rice, China, 1901-1904
this is an extremely important picture
Ive never seen someone from 1904 having fun omg
He has a nice face
No but the history behind this picture is really interesting
The reason that everyone always looked miserable in old photos wasnāt that they took too long to take. Once photography became widespread it took only seconds to take a picture.
It was because getting your photo taken was treated the same as getting your portrait painted. A very serious occasion meant so thst your descendants would know that ypu existed and what you looked like.
But one time some British dudes went to china to go on an anthropological expedition, and they met some rural Chinese farmers and decided to take their pictures. Now, these people werenāt exposed to the weird culture of the time around getting your photo taken, so this guy just flashed a big grin during the photo because he was told to strike a pose and thatās the pose he wanted to strike.
I think painted portraits and old photos give us the idea that in general people were just really unhappy because those are the visuals we have. This is so refreshing.

are you ready for my favorite fact?
If you leave a hamster wheel out in the forest, wild mice will come and run on it.
that is my favorite fact
Bobcats and lynx will sit in cardboard boxes abandoned in the middle of the forest.
I asked the lynx researcher who told me this why, and he said āCats, manā and shrugged.
