Regarding his name

There are two things I want to say about this matter...

He absolutely dislikes being addressed with his given name. Kyosuke was the name his mother gave him and for the longest time his mother was the only one actually calling him by his name. To Kiryu, his name is sacred - a gift given to him by someone very dear to him. If you randomly call him Kyosuke, be prepared to be scolded; if you do it a second time, he’ll punch you without prior warning. The only person he would potentially allow usage of his given name would be the person he’ll marry.

His middle name, Lydian, was picked by his father - a Norwegian man. Kiryu is aware of having a middle name but doesn’t bring it up to anyone. In his opinion, there’s no point to do so as he has no memories that would connect him to the name or the man who gave it to him. He does think it has a nice ring to it, though.

Evenings with Nico

When Kiryu comes back from his office in the evening, the first thing he does after taking off his coat is to flop down on the couch. Just about ten minutes later, Nico usually joins him and turns on the TV to watch her Daily Soaps for the next two hours.

Kiryu gets easily bored by those shows and usually dozes off until Nico informs him they’re over and it’s time for dinner. He could just get up and leave her to watch them by herself, but most of the time he is too exhausted to move, so he just sits with the teen, occasionally humming in response when she asks him if he’s still awake.

Over time it has become part of his daily routine to sit with her while she watches her shows, so he joins her even on days he’s not working. If Nico is lucky and Kiryu doesn’t doze off or decides to read a random book, he’ll actually pay attention to what’s happening on the TV and will make sarcastic comments towards either the characters or the horrible acting.

More than once, when West came into the living room, he found his sister cuddled up to Kiryu, intently watching her Soaps while Kiryu just lightly snored away.

Photograph of his mother

When Kiryu was around ten years old, he stumbled upon an old photograph his mother kept hidden under her pillow. The picture showed his three year old self in Kaori’s arms; strawberry ice cream all over his face. When he went to ask her about it and she explained to him that she only let him try it because he wouldn’t stop crying.

After she was murdered, Kiryu started to treasure this picture even more, as it was the only one he had of his mother. During the days of Team Satisfaction he kept it tucked away in his room, out of fear he could loose it when he carried it around with him and even as a Dark Signer, he still held onto the photograph.

The picture is now safely standing on Kiryu’s bedside table in the little house he shares with Nico, West and Ramon.
