About the Information Pals

Itzy 🍓

Itzy is oddly chipper for someone on what they call "the murder train". They attribute the length of their stay on the train to boundless whimsy and friendliness towards the staff. With so much time spent aboard, they have plenty of knowledge on many dangers of the train, though some of it is almost suspiciously specific...

It makes you wonder just what a long stay could do to a person.

The Researcher 🖋️

The Researcher is something of an urban legend aboard The Express. Tales of a passenger who is always hungry for more knowledge than what’s good for them, in the name of destiny of all things. Their intense energy and disregard for the average human life is off-putting to most, but the information pals are useful. She’ll get more information out of them yet, and out of anyone or anything else she comes across on The Express.

The Researcher’s affair with destiny is not new. Her fated quest for knowledge caused her to earn her ticket abroad on the Express.

A little tragedy never stopped her before.

Samantha "Sam" 🍯

Samantha E. Honeywell - Sam to most, is only irked by her full name when a certain someone says it. A cautious individual aboard the Express, Sam is... wary of her fellow passengers. Over time, she eases up - just a bit. Sam could be considered one of the founding members of the Information Pals, if only because she was one of the first three aboard the Express. She does her best to remain level-headed and serves as a voice of reason - sometimes authority - within the Information Pals. Events from her past have hardened her heart, however, and she doesn't shine as brightly as she used to. A thread of ruthlessness shines through the cracks of her carefully constructed mask. Sam protects what's hers. No matter the cost.

Some might call it cold. She just calls it practical.

Kristine 🦋

Kristine is a warm presence in such a gloomy place, always willing to lend an ear or compare notes to those who pass by. She prides herself on her manners, a useful trait on The Express, and holds others to the same standards. One might not expect her to survive long surrounded by horrors considering her cheery disposition, but she has been on The Express for a rather significant amount of time (considering its turnover rate). One could say it's like she has a sixth sense for potential danger…

However, Kristine's positivity is a house of cards waiting to topple over. Beyond that smile is a desperation that has left her in fawn mode near constantly. She doesn't smile and make polite conversation because she wants to - she has to.

Who's to say what would happen if the mask fully cracks?

Kacey 🐁

Kacey is… one could say the most outwardly peculiar member of the Information Pals. Standing three inches tall on their haunches, Kacey is a mouse with earrings, an amulet, glasses, snakebite piercings, and… a head of curly hair? With glasses so thick they make their eyes appear like large orbs, they're often found in either the hand or pocket of one of the other Information Pals, most often Kristine. How Kacey reaches behind their back to pull out their room key twice their size is anyone's guess.

Despite their appearance, Kacey gestures, talks, eats, and generally behaves like any other guest on the Express. Kacey tends to keep a low profile, fading into the background as someone, or something, else takes center stage.

With their cheery and sometimes cartoon-ish nature, some of the others wonder just what could have happened to this little mouse that got them their ticket.

Amelia "M" 💜

Aboard the Express, M is a familiar face next to Kai or the Researcher. A listening ear, M is known to observe, unless she deems it important enough to break her pleasant smile and intervene.

M's past is shrouded in mystery to most of the information pals, but she grew up in the 40s. A lifelong learner, her past left her burned after an unfortunate employment with [REDACTED]. Haunted by the repercussions of her actions, M finds a ticket in the pages of her journal. Perhaps this "Leviathan Express" will be a fresh start for her. Finally. She would do right this time, just like he would have wanted for her. It could even be nice.

Things don’t always work out as you plan.

Kai 🔥

Kai is what one would call... spacey. He is always dressed in bright colors and skating away on his roller skates. How is he still alive after multiple resident encounters and wandering the train at night while dissociating? Dumb luck, he supposes.

After [REDACTED], Kai wasn't even aware that he boarded the Express. Luckily, he's got his friends to help him out and guide him, especially M and the Researcher! And if they ever need to ground him while he's lost to the haze, a quick joke or a controlled shock will do the trick!

He also enjoys crocheting and giving gifts he made, so if you befriend him, you might just give a crocheted plush!

You might notice him scratching at his head often. Almost like there's something underneath the skin...

It's best not to worry.

Scout 🐾

Scout is a fierce protector of those she cares about, including the info pals. Despite her unfortunate tension with one of the members, Scout is determined to keep this group together and running smoothly. Even willing to fight against her phobia of animatronics. Maybe even add a little whimsy if she’s able. One of the later additions to the Express, it was a miraculous coincidence that Scout found the info pals.

Her past has left her with voices in her head and secrets to keep. Scout may have escaped nightmares before, but what will she do when she finds herself in a new one, where even familiar faces aren't what she expects?

You find yourself in a lounge car aboard the Express that is surprisingly well-populated by other guests. Wary, but thankful for some sense of normalcy, you ask if you can join the large group in one of the unoccupied armchairs. The one with an almost upsettingly neon pair of overalls on - still bright despite the wear and tear that comes with trying to survive in this place - smiles at you and cheerfully invites you to sit down. The woman with her hair in purple curls next to them is quick to point out which of the seats was a mimic, and warn you away from any of the pots or cups of tea scattered around the room. You thank her, perform a once-over of the chair yourself, and finally get off of your aching feet.

Whatever they're doing, it's some kind of meeting. A woman with red and blonde hair seems to be explaining a rating system she made to help judge how dangerous an encounter with a Resident may be, and how best to escape... or if you even have any chance of surviving at all.

You take note of the way your hand had begun to drift towards one of the teacups on the polished wooden table beside your chair, and discreetly tuck the both of them between your knees and hold them there. Then you focus your attention on this "MED Classification" the group is discussing, and the Resident they've decided to use as an example.

You're familiar with this one - it got someone you had been trying to stick with last week. You take a quiet, shuddering breath, and firmly push the memories of your friend's voice begging you to open the door for them, please, please please - you push it to the back of your mind.

Now you had a name for it.

The Poacher.

MED CLASSIFICATION: Method of Escape + Danger

Method: The method one should use to Escape/Survive a Resident Encounter F | P | D | S

Flight (running should always be your first choice when available)

Pacification (something that neutralizes the danger a resident presents)

Distraction (a resident that can be distracted/occupied in order to run)

Sacrifice (for when you're out of options)

Escape: Level of difficulty/likelihood of escape L | D | I

Likely (you'll probably survive the night, as long as you pick the correct method)

Difficult (possible, but only just. no room for hesitation or mistakes)

Impossible (no escape. search for signs that these residents are nearby and avoid them altogether)

Danger: Level of danger associated with encountering a specific Resident/Likelihood of sustaining injury from an encounter L | I | H

Low (an encounter that should end in little to no harm)

Intermediate (decent risk. most likely you won't get out unscathed)

High (you WILL be hurt. very likely you won't survive - either by the resident's hands, or via the injuries they inflict on you)

THE POACHER

. The Poacher - or, as Itzy exclusively refers to it - the "Voice-Stealing Hyena," is one of the many residents aboard the Express. While definitely deadly and dangerous to encounter, this is one of the Residents that you may have a better chance of escaping from.

. APPEARANCE: This Resident looks - for the most part - like a Hyena. Alongside the spiked mane of fur along it's neck/back, it also has several sharp spines that stand out starkly. Poachers often travel in packs - younger members have the skin and fur of their face intact. Older Poachers seem to have the flesh either decayed or torn away with time, exposing the skull.

. Typically, the ears and anything past them tend to remain and don't wear away like the snout does. All Poachers - both young and old - have a gaping hole in their throat. Viscera can be clearly seen, but this doesn't seem to hinder the Poacher at all.

. The front legs split at the distal joint to form two smaller, cloven feet on each limb. The back legs are typical of a dog/hyena. Poachers appear to be blind, and primarily use sound - maybe smell + vibrations? - to hunt. They have long, thin tails with a fluffy end.

. BEHAVIOR: Poachers are social creatures, much like the Hyenas they resemble. If you encounter one, it's more than likely another is nearby. Specifically, they use the stolen voices of their past victims to lure in new prey. This does seem to indicate a greater level of intelligence. As far as I'm aware, they are not limited to merely repeating words or phrases, but capable of constructing any sentence they please with a stolen voice.

. The easiest way to tell that a Poacher is nearby is the sudden and abrupt loss of your voice. You become unable to make a sound - any sound - at all. I think this also serves as a way for the poachers to detect prey.

. Poachers can also sometimes be found near the recently deceased. Ensure that there isn't a poacher hiding within a corpse before approaching - they've been known to burrow into/hide inside the bodies of their victims. They don't actually seem to eat the bodies, for whatever reason. The Fireman still comes to collect.

Hello, Puppeteer! I’ve been meaning to introduce myself (and compliment your color scheme, purple is a favorite of mine as well! The number of purple pals on the Express continues to grow!)! My friends call me M. It’s a pleasure to properly meet you!

I had a question about you “needing help” in order to bring the Operator back to us. Just who’s attention would we need to attract? We want to help her come back safely, but we are at a loss about what we can do to help.

I am willing to trade something, if you require compensation to help us. Keeping everyone together and as safe as possible is my only priority, and the safety of the whole is more important than my own.

We can’t lose more people to the same mistakes… I can’t wait for approval to at least ask more, offer something.

Sorry everybody, I know this is rushed. But I spoke with Eclipse and we - the info pals - are requesting your help. - 🍯

I'll be brief. Whatever the "Nowhere" is, it's dangerous. Eclipse told us as much as he could, I think. We have a theory - Netty seems particularly upset at Michael's death. And - we're afraid that whatever the Nowhere is, Lark - sorry, the Operator - has gone there to try and bring him back. Maybe at the cost of her own life. But Eclipse said we aren't powerless - and anons are still turned on, for the Operator's blog. - 🍯 The only way through is together, and without each others help, we may lose someone else we love for good. - 💜🪻

So - are we all sending in messages to help the Operator? That's a great idea! - 🔥

The Operator has helped us before. Time to return the favor, right? - 🐾

I think most people have gotten an inkling that you're very fond of nicknames... and. Well - a friend of mine has been telling me to "open up" to others again. And reach out or... something. So - would you like one? As far as I've seen, you have one for everyone else... but no one has one for you.

I'd love to use Lark - there's a type of songbird called a "meadowlark" with a bright yellow patch of feathers on it's chest.

But besides that, "having a lark" is a phrase - it can mean having fun, getting up to mischief. And...you do love games.

Isn't that one of the first things she also said to Michael? Now with Evan...

His hair is just as silky as Michael's, but longer. More to work with. More to braid.

Evan melts a lot more easily when Scout runs her fingers through his hair. Willing to lean back into her while he sits.

Scout thought about giving him two braids on his bangs to keep it out of his face and for more protection but ended up deciding on a fishtail braid instead. It was more time consuming than a standard three-strand or a French braid. But Evan is worth it.

"I'm not making it too tight or pulling too hard?" Scout questions while carefully tucking a strand of hair from the back of his neck in.

"N-no. It's...." Evan's shoulder's tense for a moment as he starts to speak before they slouch again. "Nice. Really nice."

Scout can't help the familiar rumble that starts in her chest. Only for a moment before cutting it out with clearing her own throat.

"Good. I'm glad."

Really glad.

Would Michael be here wanting his own kind of braid? Would he want more? Or would he be shy and say he was fine?

Scout takes a deep breath. Closing her eyes for second to get rid of the urge to cry. Her grief is still there. Yet she holds it in. For Evan, because he has enough going on. Evan deserves to not be weighed down by everyone else's problems.

"Do you like ribbons?"

"H-huh?" Evan almost moves to look back at her before catching himself. "U-Um, they're o-okay?"

"Sooo that means if I find a ribbon that suits you, I can put it at the end of your braid?" Scout smiles a little while she considers a color. A pale blue or maybe…golden.

"N-no...It would be, uh, nice."

"I'll keep my eye out for one then~"

hello again evan! i saw that u liked/were good at fixing little things, and figured id tell u about The Fixing Box - the box that fixes things! its exactly what it says on the tin, ive been using it for ages now. its kinda like a mailbox?? almost? idk, but when you put something broken in it and come back the next day or two, its fixed! i think whoever or whatever tinkers with the stuff in there wouldnt mind some help now and then, if thats something ud be interested in...?
