"But, I do not want to marry him Papa, Brutus…"
"Why would you object? He is a fitting suitor, I think."
"By the time you have your proof, it will be too late. I fear the only reason you’re still alive is because you’ve not been in Rome.”
"That's ridiculous. What proof do you have to back any of this, Marc? Superstition will not take you far. Leave that to the housewives."
slowly did she inhale as he grew near. she’d have to be deaf, blind, and dumb not to notice his obvious agitation. he found it strange, she assumed, that a girl (or anyone else, for that matter) in a precarious situation such as she, would teeter so on the precipice of disrespect. it had succeeded her in commanding his attention, but at what cost?
she was to find out one way or another. to abandon her choice now would be nothing but cowardice.
he was met initially with silence and the straightening of posture, her demeanor exhibiting a delicate sort of assertion. he spoke; she listened. but by the middle of his rebuttal, he was not the only one forced to suppress an eye roll.
he scoffed at her concern, only to follow with words of agreement. MEN — so insistent upon drawing their own conclusions. but was that not the roman way? to heed the advice of clever wives, only to assert that they, themselves, were the ones who’d thought of the counsel to begin with. after all, any idea worth entertaining was a product of the male mind.
how incredibly fortunate she considered herself, to have been born in a place desolate of that attitude.
& how that feeling of fortune grew when he spoke of aiding her cause. the problem was far from being solved, but she could not deny the feeling of relief — or, dare she call it, happiness — that overtook her. a gentle smile appeared, trained in the art of all subtleties.
“ah, but i am already a slave — a slave to the man who saved me.” her words hung thick in the air between them, those cold, calculating eyes giving way to a rare display of sincerity. this was no false show of gratitude; she meant every word. ”i will not bother with a promise; there is little assurance to be found in word alone. my actions will speak for themselves.”
there was SOMETHING about her that was so exotic; he could attribute this to no one aspect of her. she maintained an admirable air of regality, and a most refreshing amount of wit. he could compare her to no other woman he's met before, and there is a very strong feeling that she will be like no woman he meets in the future, either. this mystique of hers could certainly be deadly. in truth, however, caesar found her somewhat alluring. she was like a cobra: tempting, but offering a potentially lethal bite if not handled with c a r e. yet, like moth to flame, her pull is no weaker. some individuals are B O R N with charisma. caesar is not immune to it simply because he shares her finesse for appearance. "you make an interesting pledge," the general replies, sounding more amused than anything else. she wins him over more and more by the second. after an almost painfully long amount of objective scrutiny, he allows himself to appease carnal desire. steel blue eyes graze over cleopatra's voluptuous form, pleased with the generous curves before him. she reminds him of a marble statue, a masterpiece almost too stunning to be real. now it is his turn to step closer, curiosity possessing him more powerfully than anything else. "you have what you want, then." he murmurs gruffly. "now that we've come to an agreement, where will you go?" she cannot sleep in the castle, and he doubts rolling her back into a carpet will flow as smoothly as it did prior.

alright stop, collaborate and liSTEN BECAUSE THIS MOTHER FUCKER RIGHT HERE IS BITCHIN’
welp i tried i’m here to scream about another person i adore, and holy sheeshkabobs could i ramble about this person for d a y s . to be able to write opposite anyone from cleopatra’s life is a treat, but her dynamic with caesar has always been one of my favorites. it’s one of the things i was most eager to explore when making this blog, and since historical characters (especially from antiquity) are few and far between in the tumblr rp world, i knew was in for a bit of a wait. but holy shit — was the wait worth it. this little bitch right here understands caesar so well, her replies make me want to weep. to portray such a complex man so bloody effortlessly is no small feat, and her talent with the written word highlights her understanding beautifully. any time i read anything she’s written, i’m left wanting so much more, and the same goes for cleo. before i even finish reading a reply, my muse is chomping at the bit. she brings him to life in a way most could only ever dream to, and i consider myself insanely lucky to have her as a partner. not to mention the fact that she’s kind and fucking hilarious and just an all around 100% j-o-motherfucking-y. you make my dreams come true, qurlfrand. (and cleo’s dreams. …wet dreams.)
Stoop, Romans, stoop, And let us bathe our hands in Caesar’s blood Up to the elbows, and besmear our swords: Then walk we forth, even to the market-place; And, waving our red weapons o’er our heads, Let’s all cry, “Peace, freedom, and liberty!”

"There’s talk of revolution among the senators. Traitors. I say kill them all.”
"I was warned to beware the Ides of March, but you don't see me panicking over gossip. There is no proof of treason. The senate remains loyal to me."
Cleopatra nodded her head, turning and leaving the room. She came back with an obviously sleepy but not wanting to admit it Caesarion on her hip, and pointed over to Caesar. “See, I told you I was bringing you to your daddy,” she told him “Maybe you’ll listen to him if you don’t want to listen to your mama.”
His son was beautiful, just like his mother, but he suspected he'd grow to be like his father with age. Julius outstretched his arms to receive the boy, half of a smile resting gracefully onto his face. "What keeps my son from sleeping?"
in the air hung a short silence, a moment of deliberation — not over the question itself, no, but the way in which she’d choose to answer it. the clarification lay entirely in her character; she had chosen to visit him, because she knew she could win his favor. perhaps she was a bit of a narcissist, but that daring self-confidence could very well save her life. it would be foolish to rely upon the pity of a roman; she had to prove her usefulness. if she could not secure an alliance, there was little hope left for her future.
& while he was, quite possibly, the one person in the world she would be willing to quiet her prideful nature for, she was uncertain it was the right course of action. she was no subservient roman wife; she was QUEEN. and if she would retain that title, she would be worthy of it.
the fear of overstepping her bounds suddenly began to quiet itself, for her confidence and gratitude were not mutually exclusive.
”because i did not think caesar stupid enough to make an enemy of me.”
a devilish little simper played at her lips as she commanded his gaze. she may not have had the upper hand, but she was aware of her assets — and, most importantly, how those assets would work to his benefit.
”the child’s foolishness is not my chief concern, but those who wish to capitalize on it. from the day of my coronation, i have worked tirelessly to maintain and expand on the prosperity of egypt — a right given to me by both my birth and the will of my father. i am content to follow his wishes, to rule jointly with my brother, but i will not have treasonous voices present in my court.” a blatant lie. she had no patience for the little shit, but if it was caesar’s wish to mend a feud — she would happily play along. he could be dealt with later, and much more easily, once his scheming counsellors were done away with. “the people here stir at the sign of any roman intervention, but if i were to play your queen, egypt would be at peace. the debt of my father would be repaid, and your people fed. all without you doing a thing. under my rule, egypt will serve both herself and the interests of rome. …so, tell me again why i should fear you’ll paint me an enemy?”
julius caesar is certainly a man whose pride means everything, even if he hides the truth expertly. so, when the word stupid pours forth from cleopatra's lips, she incurs his irritation. however, she also grabs at his full and undivided attention, something women almost never do. the general will fold his arms and close the distance between them, hovering around her like a shark ready to devour his prey. still, he listened. he heard what she had to say. that says more than it should have. after all, they both knew the truth. one yell for the guards and she could be imprisoned, banished further away, or worse. what a shame that would be; she was almost too beautiful to kill. it seemed...wasteful. and, sadly, even caesar cannot resist the charm of a woman who speaks. "treasonous voices pah!." caesar murmured in echo, all but rolling his eyes. treason ran rampant in the empire, but he crushed it quite easily. "i hear this word far too often. however, i must say that i agree with you. i have been told that the order for my colleague's head was not solely made by the boy." sadly, it didn't make him hate the child any less. he will never erase the image from his mind, as he is sure pompey's family will not. and, though the victory is his, the revenge must also be his. if she were to play queen. he knew he'd stricken fear all through the nile when he'd seized power. they feared rome too much to do anything but comply, but he knew they could grow to resent the romans, as well. unless, of course, he made them think of his as their savior, the man who restored their beloved queen to power. "perhaps i could be swayed to aid your cause." julius finally says, deciding she was of no harm to him and letting himself untense. "...to rule as your father wished." "but i will leave romans in egypt to assure you follow through with all of your promises. if you do not, i swear you'll leave egypt a slave, not an exile." his plans to annex egypt did not yet change; they could keep their queen. he would take for rome what he wanted.
