Awake || Mia & Ingrid
“He didn’t love me like he loved them, though. I was just… I don’t know what I was to him anymore. The last thing he said to be was that he would always be by my side and then he died.” She did love Nik. She’ll always love him. He was the one constant in her life that provided her with the happiness she needed to be the bubbly wolf she was. Now… she was lost without him there. She didn’t have the comfort of familiarity or the fact that she always had someone there for her. But after asking Miles if she could become part of his pack, Mia was slowly feeling that she had people there for her. First it was Miles, then it was Alex, and now, it was Ingrid. Mia tried hard not to judge someone right away. She wanted to fit in even though she wasn’t the norm. She wasn’t angry or spiteful. She never wanted to torture people or see harm come to those supposedly weaker than her. Mia just wanted to please people and make them smile. She just hoped that one day, the entire pack would be okay with her and her pups. “Thank you, Ingrid. You don’t know how much it means to me to hear you say that. It seems only you, Alex and Miles are okay with being around me lately. I… I want them to be happy with me and with the memory of Nik. I want them to have a good life here. I don’t want people to hate them because of whatever Reves may think of me. Apparently, there are a lot of people here who like her.”
Mia hugged Ingrid back before pulling away. “Lets get you some food. You’re going to need it for tonight. Last night of the moon, after all.” Mia needed food as well. She needed to eat better for the pup or pups inside of her right now and Ingrid needed to heal. Standing up, Mia helped the brunette onto her feet, keeping a hand on her friend’s back in case she needed help walking. “Do you think the other wolves are going to despise me as well? I really haven’t heard anything from them yet. Only Rowan and it wasn’t to me, it was to Reves. Said he was happy that he didn’t ‘tap this after all’.” She shook her head with a sigh. “I was telling Nik how I wish I could find someone to mate with. Someone to call my own. Somehow, from that conversation, he asked me if I wanted to have sex with him to make pups. I think I screwed up my chances for having someone want me now. I’m carrying another wolf’s babies and it’s really messed up.”
"Well that's what made you two special. Two werewolves can understand each other like no one else," Ingrid surveyed the small blonde and determined that she was the strongest person she had crossed paths with in quite a long time. "Reves can go fuck herself with a stake," Ingrid said it to cheer Mia up, but found herself meaning it. "She knew that Nik wasn't a hard commitment-y guy, you know? It's her fault for getting upset about that. I don't know why so many people like her, because frankly, I think she's absolutely vile. She's a jealous bitch, who can't come to terms with her own secrets so she has to spill other people's, and she can't handle her liquor." Ingrid finished with a sharp giggle. "I went to a party with her once and really, after a few drinks, it was like a circus."
Ingrid licked her dry lips. She felt her empty stomach knocking on the brass knocker of her brain. She limped a bit, but found the rhythm of walking soon enough. Everything was foreign to her now, everything smelled different. Maybe because her nasal cavity was stuffed full of ash and ugly connotations of dead men. She stopped and put her hands on Mia's shoulders, steadying the other girl so she could make earnest eye contact with her. "No one in the pack is going to hate you. I promise. And if they even think about it, I'll break their knee caps. Like I said, two werewolves can understand each other better than anyone else. They're going to help you take of these pups, Mia. We all are and they will grow up to be amazing. They will be strong and fast and smart and good." Ingrid took her thumb and brushed it across Mia's porcelain cheek. "I think a lot of people love you, Mia. And someday you'll find one that you love too. It's not your fault Nik died, doll. I don't want his death will stop you from being the brilliant and charming girl that you are and that people love. Don't let it. Don't let Reves do it, don't let her petty little followers do it, don't let you do it. Don't let yourself lose you, ok? Promise me."
I might become a vegetarian.
And why’s that?
I'm getting a bit squeamish.
I might become a vegetarian.
Awake || Mia & Ingrid
Mia ran her hand over Ingrid’s hair as the other girl tried to speak. Mia knew that now that they were out of the barn, Ingrid could get the air that she needed. Maybe a witch to help clear her lungs if need be. Food would have to wait until they both were a little more stable to help each other move. Mia was tired and her strength wasn’t as high as it normally was, which Miles had warned her about. “He said that he got you out when I asked him… maybe he was just saying that to me to calm me down? I…” She shook her head, seeing the other girl’s scattered mind focus on Mia instead of herself. The blonde let out a long sigh, her eyes shutting for a moment. Where was she going to begin? There was so much to say, not to mention, trying to talk Ingrid out of hurting people. The last thing the pack needed after losing 2 wolves was losing another one. Chewing on her lower lip, she moved to sit besides Ingrid on the grass. “Promise me you won’t hate me after this?”
Rubbing her neck, Mia looked down at her flat stomach. “Five died. Smythe, Ben, Miles’ brother, Gabriel, and Nik. Nik… he was mated with Reves, as you know. Well, he slept with Alex and I. At separate times, of course. Anyway, the reason he slept with me was because he wanted a family and he trusted me. Reves obviously can’t conceive. Anyway, it turns out, he lied to all three of us about something. It turns out, Reves didn’t want a family. I guess, he never cared for me like I thought he did. Yesterday, Reves told everyone that I’m a pregnant harlot. So, a lot of people seem to be siding with her and I got attacked verbally a couple of times because I told her to stake herself because it wasn’t something I was ready to announce. I wasn’t even sure if I was, but she has that stupid power to see the future. Anyway, I joined the pack and Miles said he’ll help me. Alex also offered her help as well, so I got a couple people okay with me being like this. I… I just feel like I’m not allowed to mourn anymore. It’s okay if Reves outs me and threatens to harm me because she’s mourning, but I can’t do anything. And I’m so lost because I don’t know what to believe anymore. I don’t even know if my last memory of Nik is now tarnished and I can’t ask him anything because he’s gone.” She sniffled a little before wiping away her tears. “I’m sorry. I’m babbling like an idiot when I should be taking care of you.”
Everything about being out of that stupid, charred barn was making Ingrid feel better. Maybe it had been psychological, her breathing problems because now, the air was easily frequenting her lungs. She was no longer light headed and airy, but grounded and gravity-driven. She had missed a lot. So much had happened and Ingrid didn't know where to begin. She hated missing things, even if she made it a habit. Her inner cheerleader wanted all the inner gossip and fun snippets, but she knew if she was going to keep up the scary mysterious werewolf bit, then she had to give that up. It was a bit disappointing, but she did a good job of convincing herself that it was no longer important to be concerned with other people's matters. But Mia was different because she had liked Ingrid from the beginning. No one really took a liking to her when meeting her because of her cynical nature and all around annoying personality. But Mia had stuck with her, and therefore softened it. "You know what, Mia? I bet he said it to make sure you wouldn't go in after me. And if he couldn't get to me without killing himself, I'm sure he didn't want you to die looking for someone who couldn't be saved."
Ingrid dusted her hands as Mia listed the names of the dead. Grey ash flaked away to reveal angry red of her burnt hands. She knew she had to eat for them to heal, but she didn't want Mia to be concerned so she hid them. They had lost two wolves. The others didn't matter, but Nik... "Nik played for both teams?" Ingrid couldn't help but ask. "Huh. Everything makes more sense now." Coming back to the serious conversation, Ingrid took her thumb and wiped away a few of Mia's tears. "Look, Mia. Look at me. You aren't what Reves says you are. She's just a jealous bitch because she couldn't have Nik's babies. He loved you, Mia, I could see it. And don't let the petty bullshit that Reves spews taint what he meant to you. Because you loved him too, and that's what's important, right? And even though he might be gone, you are going to have adorable little wolf puppies of his and we are going to take care of them and we will teach them how great and silly their father was." Ingrid rubbed Mia's back, jolting from her sniffles. She wrapped her arms around the other wolf who was now a part of her pack. "You'll get through this. I don't need taking care of, you do. I'm going to help you, Mia."
Awake || Mia & Ingrid
Mia had been wondering about Ingrid. It had been days since she has last seen the wolf that was trying to help her out of the barn. Mia had lifted her, but Rowan had assured her that he had Ingrid, so Mia took off in search of Nik. Nik died and Mia wanted to believe he died trying to save everyone. It was the naive part of her that still felt Nik was her hero, her family. As of late, all she felt was that she was betrayed and broken. Half of the compound thought she was a harlot. A quarter didn’t know who she was and a quarter simply loved the fact that she was being dragged through the mud by Reves. Nik had told three women three different things and now, she was pregnant, having a family without him. Reves wanted her dead and Alex… Mia wasn’t sure what was going through her head, but it seemed that the other vampire wanted to help Mia. Mia had the pack and right now, she needed to find one of her members.
Taking a walk over to the barn, needing some air, she noticed how part of it was starting to be rebuilt. It was the final night of the moon and so far, things have been fairing well for all of the wolves that usually were chained up in the barn. As she got closer, she saw a figure. Instantly, she recognized it as Ingrid. “Ingrid!” She ran over to where she was, moving some of the rubble off the other wolf. “Five dead, total. But Rowan said he got you out! What the hell are you in here for?” Mia was going to go off on Rowan if he lied to her about Ingrid. She was already upset by his comment earlier in regards to Reves outing her. Finally, she got Ingrid out of the rubble and over to the grass outside of the barn. “Are you hurt?”
Ingrid blinked when the sound of Mia's voiced pierced through the veil of her head. All the furniture came tumbling down to its rightful place where gravity could still tell it what to do. She let Mia fuss over her for a bit and tried to stand, but failed. She began to control the clean air in her lungs that was churning up a tornado and ripping her apart. "Uhm, I didn't get out," was all she could manage with the lack of anything in her head than absent furniture. In a blink, she hated the burned ghost of the barn. Wherever she ended up, she always started out fine but stopped in the middle to get caught in a fire. But this time it actually happened, and it was scaring Ingrid that she hadn't been strong enough to make it out by herself. And she came to realize that some part of her died, the innocent one that thought she made a strong werewolf, because honestly Ingrid was about as weak as they come.
"I'm fine, Mi-" Ingrid started coughing but tried to choke it down so she didn't sound too weak. "I- just ne-eed some air. And maybe some food." She considered the blonde for a moment, who was considerate enough to try and save her from the red and white wine flames that almost killed her while no one else gave a damn. "I- I don't remember Rowan getting me, but he could have tried and failed. It was quite the oven in there." Ingrid turned her sights off of herself and her broken tornado mind and onto the other girl. Mia was obviously torn up over a bunch of things, not only the fire. "I'm fine, Mia, but what about you? What's upsetting you? Who did it, whose knees do I need to break?"
Awake || Open Para
Ingrid's eyes slammed open. Her mind was a jumble of burned and scarred furniture, and if she moved it she was sure to scuff up the walls. The perfect glass fractures of her brain would shatter. She took a deep breath of the sweet night air, and choked. It was not familiar to her torn lungs, ripped from the night's catastrophe. Ingrid rolled over, still hacking, afraid she was going to regurgitate her soul. She dry heaved a few times before realizing the hungry pains in her gut. How long had she been out? A while, she suspected from her unrelentingly stiff joints. She tasted the air again for any hint of the acrid medicine of burned homes. It wasn't present. She could've been out for a day, or more. They could already be rebuilding the barn.
She took one hand, planted it firmly behind her, and pushed herself up weakly. That's when she realized she was in the wolf barn. It was a jumbled mess of charred wood and scarred furniture. Her arm trembled precariously as she gagged once again on nothing. The previously set and rotting furniture in her head was somehow weightless now, gravity not demanding its will on the couches and tables and chairs of Ingrid's brain. As her body sunk, heavier by the second, her mind floated up into the grey sky and she vaguely wondered if Gabriel's petty flames had stained the clear milky-white blue of the sky. There was an absence on her skin where Mia had picked her up and carried her, sun-tan lines marking her as one of the weak. Fifty-two seconds went by before she moved her other hand to aid her rise to the grey black sky. When her weight was finally on her feet, the dewy air crawled into her lungs and she choked again, this time less violently. When she tried to push the clean air past her vocal chords, all that she was presented with was a hoarse gear-grinding. She attempted again to push the used, thrift store oxygen through her larynx. She was rewarded in the form of an aluminum, snagging squeal. Ingrid grabbed at it, holding onto the sonic air in order to make use of it. "Is anyone dead?"
I-I can't see anything.
Do you seriously think I came back in here without knowing where the way out was?
Well I sure as hell would've because I'm dumb and courageous. At least we have that in common.
Am I supposed to check in with someone?
Outside. I’ll carry you.
I can't find Nik, Mia what's happening
My Childe, Cameron.
Good luck finding her, man. It's burned almost to the ground.
Wolf head count. And go.
Great. Try to get as far away from the smoke as possible.
Likewise, Sherlock.
I-I can't see anything.
We don’t have time for this shit. Come on.
Don't act all high and mighty, neither of us can see so what in hell are we going to do?
Am I supposed to check in with someone?
Take my hand, Ingrid.
M-Mia, where are the others?
Wolf head count. And go.
Here!
I-I can't see anything.
We’re going to play a little game called ‘stay the fuck away from the fire.’ How’s that sound?
Sounds like a great idea, genius. But which way? All I can see is the fucking smoke.
Gabriel Fucking Delcourte!
Look at what you did to my HAIR!
He didn't.
Am I supposed to check in with someone?
Okay… Have you seen Nik? Miles? Aurora?
No... but we have to get out now so we don-- [breaks off coughing] We have to go.
