what if it GETS her though 😥
book recs for horror novels that are really disturbing w/o being true-crimey? i want grim and haunting stuff with fantastical elements :]
The Unmothers by Leslie J Anderson - what if you're a reporter on a pity assignment to a small town following up on a weird tabloid story and oohhh shit this town is....weird.
Your Blood, My Bones by Kelly Andrew - so you've got this generational legacy of violence between you and also there's some shit that really wants to eat you both out in the woods.
The Haunting of Velkwood by Gwendolyn Kiste - sometimes your whole neighborhood got trapped in some kind of weird ghost time bubble in your teens and now you're in your 30s and someone wants you to go back. also, there are lesbians in this one.
Feed Them Silence by Lee Mandelo - put your brain in a wolf! nothing bad will happen! I think about this book....often.
What Moves the Dead by T. Kingfisher - nothing like visiting your good old friends in their rotting house and- hey why is that rabbit doing that....
Just Like Home by Sarah Gailey - I don't consider this true-crimey though it does involve backstory about a serial killer. Mostly this is a book about how much a childhood home can love you :) I told someone it felt like this book was trying to hunt and eat me while I was reading it, 10/10 horror experience.
And lastly, anything by Andrew Joseph White, Gretchen Felker-Martin, or Allison Rumfit. Those names are in order from "fucked up!" to "reading this book made me physically ill".
