Manga Ichiba Friday Daytime was… a success!!! Yaaaay
Here’s my humble little table setup:
The best part about a doujinshi market is you don’t need to make it fancy. Just put your books out and let people read them. (Although some people did have a nice set up and I respect the game. It was always what I hated about Artist Alley tho LMAOO)
Morning was actually a really good turnout?! A lot of us were half-expecting a slow crowd but there were pretty decent waves of people coming from each shuttle drop off. I think it helped that because the Artist Alley didn’t open until 2pm, a lot of people came to check out ManIchi in the meantime.
For me specifically, I think I had steady sales here and there for most of it, and then a lot of people suddenly came at the end. It was kind of nuts.
Since my only product was (essentially) a CanonOC ship for a relatively old game, I didn’t draw in big crowds, and for the first few sales I was like 🫨 YOU WANT THIS?? REALLY… OK… WOW 🥺
Btw I don’t mind not having crowds, it’s fun to have the opportunity to talk to people who are interested in my work!! I had so many good conversations with people who came by my table, my heart is so full!!!!
If it helps to know, I ordered a stock of 100 books from MCE Printing (shoutout, they did a great job💕). I was worried it might be overkill but figured I could just sell the rest over time online. IT WASNT ENOUGH!!!! I put aside about 20 for online orders, and after giving a few copies to close friends I probably had… I wanna say 75-80 copies for the event. I sold around 60 copies, and traded maybe 15-20?! I wish I had more for trading 😭 But I’m glad it sold as well as it did!!!!
I also had like 5 copies of my first chapter from 2018, so those were gone pretty fast.
ALSO I had some last minute printouts of a 4 page WIP for my Umamusume doujinshi… (its shakafai is anyone surprised) and those were effectively my business card 8-) it seemed to work well so I’ll print more next time.
For those who couldn’t make it, I’ll be putting the rest of my stock in my online store on Tuesday. I sold the books for $10 at the event, but I’m pricing them at $15 for online sales 🙇 I’ll have a digital version too,., probably set to PWYW. I hope this is ok for people! Also I am so sorry in advance about international shipping 😭 I know it like doubles the cost.
As for how the event has been going in general, I’ve been checking out each round and it seems people have been selling out pretty early!! I’ve been really lucky to trade with a lot of the artists, and I truly wish I could trade more 🥺
I’m excited to do this again, if I’m so lucky. Maybe even do other comic events, but it might be a little rough without the very specific manga/anime crowd.
ANYWAY im floored how well it went.. If you wanna make doujinshi do it!!!! It doesn’t have to be something popular, it just has to be something you love dearly. Also if no one is making it, that’s even more reason to do it yourself 🫵
