Art Tutorials?!
Hey-o Tumblr Land! It's been a hot bit since I've been on Tumblr, figured it could use some dusting off. A friend is trying to talk me into doing art tutorials. For the experienced artists: what do you wish a more advanced artists had taught you early on? If you could start over, what would you tell yourself to work on first? For the beginner artists: what would you want to know more about? what mediums would you want to learn about? ------------------------------------------------------------ About me: I'm a (semi retired) illustrator who was affected during COVID and worked fulltime as a furry artist. Sadly, A-I kinda sunk my business, and I couldn't keep up consistent work and had to return to a normal day job field, and move my art business back to part time. I graduated with a BFA from Oklahoma State University(2017) where I specialized in printmaking and drawing. I hadn't had proper "training" as an artist until college, literally walked into freshman class drawing stick ponies, no joke. I had never taken an art class after 2nd grade because my parents (I was homeschooled) didn't consider art classes worthwhile. So, putting up my cringe-y anime art next to realistic self portraits of classmates was... embarrassing to say the least. I am only recently, probably 2024, really become comfortable with my digital drawings, and I did not start drawing digitally until my senior year and it.... was just as yikes as my freshman entry level work. 2025, I finally realized I was burnt out on digital and really missed traditional, and something someone said to me during early 2024 at a convention "your traditional work is leagues and miles better than your digital work" which... was a shock. I hadn't touched traditional art since college, and I graduated college. Maybe it was time to go back to my roots. It is now 2026, I'm back into traditional work. I'm rediscovering all my old muses, pastels, graphite, even oil painting. And I LOVE it, I miss actually getting messy and feeling my medium, quite literally. Speaking of, I need to tell ya'll why I am named what I am, and it is a relevant to my work. Anyways! Enough about me. Ya'll want me to make these tutorials? Help me out! Tell me what you'd like to see?
