I try not to be awful to people but it’s really something. There’s this tiktoker that’s a lukola and is like “Nicola posting that deadline article and later posting Jake to deflect they need to stop acting like children” and like that woman is in her late 30’s! You would wonder they have other life ambitions than simply creating narratives about real life people. I really do think they project their lack of romantic life onto Nicola. They’re unwell. They think Nicola with her stable job and relationship is trying to give hints to LN… that’s the reality they live in and they fully believe it too. As if Nicola consistently does not post Jake and her friends on her IG Stories consistently every time there’s an achievement or announcement.

They're frustrated because Nicola refuses to fit the story they wrote for her.

She has been busier than ever, keeps booking project after project, and still openly celebrates the people she loves. That's just... a healthy, balanced life.

They´re not following Nicola anymore, they´re following a theory.

And I think that's why they can't let her go. Because letting go of Nicola means letting go of the fantasy they built around her.

Personally, I love seeing a woman who's successful in her own right, clearly happy, and doesn't feel the need to choose between having an amazing career and a fulfilling relationship. That's something to celebrate, not twist into something sinister.

People upset Nicola is “using her influence” to promote Jake’s work. Maybe take that anger and be mad at the influence JKR is using to destroy the rights of LGBTQIA+ communities.

Anyone who's actually followed Nicola knows she's been unwavering in her support of the LGBTQIA+ community.

I find it genuinely upsetting to see someone as influential as J.K. Rowling repeatedly use her platform in ways that many trans people and advocacy groups say contribute to stigma and exclusion.

The tantrums when Nicola does something they don’t like is so exhausting. I don’t understand being part of a “fandom” where you’re just constantly upset and bothered by Nicola’s actions. Wouldn’t it be easier to you know step away, stop keeping up with what she is are doing? It would make it a much more pleasant space for those of us here for the right reasons.

If every new project, friendship or personal milestone becomes a source of frustration, maybe it's worth asking why you're still following the person.

I don’t know why people don’t understand this very simple thing at this stage. I’ll be honest, I’m in the Nicola fan space because I want to enjoy her work and things about her, but the way some nic fans insist on talking about lukolas at any chance and stake out their blogs and posts, makes me wonder are they a fan of nic or are they a fan of lukolas? People say they are frustrated by lukolas, but the fact is their reach is ever smaller and they are more irrelevant every day as many of their followers move onto other toxic shipper fandoms. Sorry for the whinge, but i just find it so frustrating that apparently well-meaning fans are so fixated with the vile shippers, giving them the little relevance they still have.

I completely get what you mean, and honestly I think that's why I try to focus my blog on Nicola's work first and foremost. The only reason I occasionally address these narratives is because they inevitably spill into spaces that are supposed to be about celebrating her, and I don't think they should go unchallenged there.

That said, I agree with your broader point: the best way to support Nicola is by talking about Nicola. Her projects, her performances, the people she collaborates with, and everything she's building.

Make ya mind up! Is she sharing copious amounts about Jake and doing nothing else…… or is she so private that there is still room for them to be unsure? Pick a narrative and stick with it.

Meanwhile, all logical fans can see that she’s working constantly on varied and interesting projects. Promoting her own work and herself. Sharing occasional moments with friends or letting us know what book/music/movie she’s enjoyed. And sometimes, she’ll share her partners work, because, as well as being a fantastic actress, friend, family member, activist, fundraiser, philanthropist & colleague - she’s also a proud girlfriend.

Sharing your partner's work occasionally doesn't suddenly make your life "all about a man," just as keeping most of your relationship private doesn't mean it isn't real. Those ideas can coexist.

To me, Nicola has always seemed incredibly consistent in how she presents herself, she celebrates what matters to her, protects what she wants to keep private, and lets her work speak for itself.

Oh yeah on Twitter they are on a role. They think she’s doing “damage control” by posting his work, control for what? And they also say this means nothing romantic because they are still on that train that J is gay and he’s just one of her gay best friends as if she has not approved interviews where they mention he’s her romantic partner. Because I suppose having roles that are gay and having friends that are gay is because you also are in their minds. Plus, that’s reductive. They believe she’s in a “lavender” relationship with him. To what propose? Idk, it makes sense for them. They surpassed the levels of TSwift’ parasocial fandom.

What I find the most upsetting, it's the way some people feel entitled to speculate about a real person's sexuality because it suits the narrative they've created.

Being friends with LGBTQ+ people, playing LGBTQ+ characters or supporting the community has absolutely nothing to do with someone's own sexuality. Treating those things as "evidence" is not only baseless, it's reductive to everyone involved.

Nicola has been clear, and I think respecting that is the bare minimum.

While obsessively shipping has always been a thing and it’s certainly a problem in the Polin fandom. The idea that N and L work as a unit has always been weird to me. A lot of those Polin/Lvkola accounts act like supporting N and L equally is a given and not a choice. As if people shouldn’t be interested in Nicola outside of Bton. And the more she finds new jobs and people that are interested in her as her own and not a ship - it seems like it annoys them because they have nothing to look forward to. N didn’t sign a dual contract with L, she’s her own person with her own career.

I completely agree that Nicola has always been her own person with her own career.

I think the saddest part is that it feels like people struggle to celebrate Nicola's growth if it isn't connected to Bridgerton. An actor's career is supposed to evolve.

I don't want Nicola to stay where she was in 2024, I want to see what she can become in 2026, 2027 and beyond.
