“And why not,” he questioned.
“I don’t trust witches.”
“Then learn. Buy a house. Take a self defense class. Get a job.”
“And how do you suppose I do all that? It isn’t simply that easy Katherine even for someone without my lack of knowledge.”
“Well, that could be your first time. I promise you, this will be a magical night. Unless you get too wasted and throw up.”
“I’d rather not throw up.” Last time she had thrown up it was less than ideal circumstances and she had gotten punished for it.
“Then learn. You aren’t a little slave girl anymore, this is the 21 century. Girls don’t just roll over anymore.”
“I agree. However just because I agree that doesn’t change my limited knowledge on how to defend myself.”
Kaleb was confused when she started speaking. “It’s okay,” he said softly, holding up his hands. “I’m not going to hurt you.”
“You say that but there is no way I could be positive of it.”
“Good. So, can I offer you a drink? Alcohol solves all problems.”
“I’ve never had alcohol before, I was forbidden form it.”
He shook his head. “No.. I am not but what my father did was inexcusable and he should have to pay for it.” Oliver frowned. “.. and I understand if you don’t want to see me or have anything to do with me. Just say the word and I’ll be out of your hair.. promise.” The boy smiled weakly at his mother, trying to make this as easy for her as possible but was having a hard time with that himself.
Oliver nodded. “Yes.. But that’s not important.” He responded, not really wanting to overwhelm her more and telling her that it had been his father who had caused his death.
“No-stop saying that.” Amara spoke a tad aggressively. “That is important and so are you. I do not hate you and I’m not ignorant enough to blame you for the actions of your father! You are my child and I love you. Yes the circumstances of your birth weren’t ideal but I cherish the time I looked after you and your sister! When you were taken from me I did nothing about it. I was a child and felt it was my place not to speak out. However I’m not a child anymore and yes, if he did hurt you it’s extremely important because I... I gave you to him. I gave you both to him... do you know what happened to your sister?”
“Well you really need to learn how to protect yourself.”
“I’ve never been taught. In my day it was simply my job to take what was dealt to me.”
Kaleb was confused when she was suddenly filled with fear. “Wow… wow-” Kaleb said, running after her.
“What do you want?” Amara asked fearfully. “You’re a witch, yes?” She slipped into her native speak without realization. “I am thankful that you saved me but witches make myself wary.”
“At least you are getting the name right now,” she said with a smile. “You want to explain that…”
“I wish I could. He just attacked me at random.”
“Hey, let go of her!” Liv snapped.
The vampire retreated and Amara fell to the ground.
“Well stay away from him. He sounds like not the kind of person you can talk to.”
“I know that now and I have no plans of approaching him.”
“Amara,” Katherine said, looking down at her.
“Katerina.” Amara spoke with more assurance. “Thank you.”
“I said, leave her alone,” he said, holding her his hand and trying to focus his magic, throwing the vampire away.
The vampire retreated, however.., “You-you’re a witch.” Amara gasped fear in her voice.
“You need to remove your hand, now.”
The vampire didn’t move an inch.
“Let go before I make you.”
The vampire had run away at the sight of Katherine with a shot gun presumably filled with wooden bullets. “K-katherine?”
‘’ Oh perfect. I think I’m just gonna watch this because…or I’ll go.’’
