suddenly he’s included in her world? laurie doesn’t bring it up, but he left that world behind a long time ago. because he did make a choice. that’s the reason his family looks down on him, the reason she looks down on him, and the reason just about everyone he grew up with looks down on him. “just because everyone acts like you don’t get a choice doesn’t mean you can’t make one.” it’s her life — he’s not going to push her to make a choice or not. but he does know that ever since he decided to live his own life and not the life his parents wanted, he’s been a lot happier. “that’s none of my business though.” he quickly adds. they’ve got this far without having any strong arguments and he doesn’t have the energy for it tonight. “thank you,” he offers her a small smile. art has been his passion for so long that he can’t wait to do it full time. no school, no family business — just what he loves. “yeah, as much as they threatened my parents never actually took away my inheritance. that’s part of why i wanted to go to school here. the art scene is pretty awesome, there are some very talented people around here.”
“Oh no.” Allison said and shook her head. She didn’t know why she was being this open and talking about her feelings but here they were anyway. “No, you don’t remember my parents much. I don’t have a choice. At all. It’s either do this or be killed basically.” Allison said and took another bite. “You may have escaped but with DJ being the way she is, there’s absolutely no way I could ever...” Allie just shook her head again and looked down at the pizza. She wasn’t trying to argue, she just didn’t think he understood. Allie was her parent’s golden child, the one they showed off every chance they could get so everything she was...it was a front that her parents made her have. She didn’t have the chance to be herself and that was one disconnect between her and Laurie for years. “I would say so.” she said. “You should try to talk to the art teacher about opening something.” she said and smiled a little. “I’m sure it would be very successful.”
