My Thoughts: This fic kept me warm through a rainy weekend. Even though I didn’t go out, this story let me travel and relish the joy of sightseeing with my favorite ship. I loved the writing. Every sentence had such clarity and beauty, and the each scene built onto each other so smoothly. Only Connect is a truly tender and lovely fic.

there was a lot of pointless discourse on the bird site about how heated rivalry is a m/m book written by and for women, but absolutely no commentary about how shane is a racialised protagonist written by a white writer who had no interest in exploring either his identity and background or how systemic whiteness of the sport affects him.

so it's actually really important to me that the show's made an active effort to make a point of it - about wimbledon, about hockey, but also the pressure of the model minority myth, the patronising tokenism from white authority, the discomfort of being in such a white space, and shane's identity as someone mixed-race and the rejection of solidarity because of it.

i'm not expecting much more than this beecause i don't think they have the time to do more but i'm already pleasantly surprised by what they've done in the time they have
