inoichi-yamanaka:
She let out another heavy sigh but let go of her father’s cloak to glance up towards him. He looked better than she had last seen him. Finally, it seemed that he had been sleeping a little more restfully, considering that the weariness under his eyes was absent. That cheered her up significantly on it’s own.
"Oh, just, you know how I said this school sometimes hosts magical events and the headmaster is a prankster. This time he randomly paired up people together and they were officially married. I was one of those people," she explained.
The worst part would be trying to calm her father down when she told him who it was.
"I was married to Shikamaru. Against either of our wills or consent.”
She had to add the last bit in because just like her, Inoichi was also prone to jumping to wrong conclusions.
"But it’s ended now. Thank goodness. As if I could ever marry someone without you being present."
Ino only realised a little later on what she had just said. She’d just spoke about her marriage. With her father. And immediately afterwards, she’d imagined something quite wonderful and ridiculous all at once.
…
"Such silly thoughts…" Ino was quick to scold herself, since she had vowed that she wouldn’t think of marriage until she became a Jounin. She wanted her dad to see her being promoted, to see his chest swelling with pride.
"A-anyway, that’s how I lost my job. I didn’t turn up for a week."
--Shikamaru?!
So was it all true then, some of the speculations that he had made in the pa--
...
Oh.
Well, then. Right.
Of course it had been without their consent. Aha ha... ha. It was not as though he had been thinking of anything else. Hadn't his daughter already told him that she and Shikamaru were nothing more than just team mates? Friends-- family, even. Although, that being said, that didn't mean that there didn't exist a single chance that this could change to something other than familial--...
"..."
While the small blush that adorned his daughter's cheeks certainly did not go amiss, Yamanaka Inoichi chose not to say anything of it. Could it be...?
Instead, he simply smiled.
"Ah, I see. So that's it, huh?
Well, then I suppose I could give you a bit of an allowance for the time being." What? He was not oblivious. "Just try not to spend too much, hm? You might need some of it for a rainy day."
Because honestly, if there was anyone who was well acquainted with his daughter's spending habits, it was her father himself.
the apple of my eye || yamanaka ino
Now, this was a bit difficult.
Buying a gift for his beloved daughter wasn't really all that hard; she was always happy with whatever it was that he chose for her.
But for this year...
As far as he was concerned, even though he had celebrated it back in Konoha with her, fact of the matter was, the Ino here had been at Iwakiri for over two years-- So that was one birthday that he had missed, and couple that with the amount of work that he had been piled with since his arrival at this strange land... Such was simply a situation that would not do.
Which was one of the reasons why his birthday hug to her lasted a bit longer than usual. It was only after he gave her one last tight squeeze that he withdrew. Birthday wish already extended beforehand, now all that was left was...
He poked her on the nose fondly, a chuckle escaping his lips.
"Now, what do you say to a day out with 'tousan?"
"I dare say that some quality time between father and daughter is long overdue."
His gift to her already placed within the confines of a carefully wrapped box - the present being a little something that he knew she had been eyeing for awhile now - it would only be a little later that he would extend it to her. As a bit of a surprise to end the day with.
But for now, time to make up for time lost.
[Leaves pair of grey, knitted gloves on]
"Ah—"
"Thank you, Ino. These will come in handy."
hello - hello || nara yoshino
"Oh my, people! Well."
inoichiyamanaka started following you
"Inoichi! You’re here - oh what a relief someone’s been looking after Shikamaru…you have been, right? Is Ino here? Wait - is Shikaku? Don’t tell me that lazy bastard came all the way here and now didn’t come greet me!”
To say that Yamanaka Inoichi had expected to be greeted by an old friend while on the way to his next lesson would be a grievous error.
For he had not.
Especially not with the question she had presented him with.
But there stood Nara Yoshino, with a smile on her face, apparently oblivious as to what had transpired over the past year. It appeared as though she was in a good mood, her demeanour pleasant- although the more domineering part of her personality was also quick to rear its head, if the comment she had made regarding her husband was anything to go by.
Which was why, instead of greeting her with his usual cheer and warmth - they had known each other for a long time, had they not? - Inoichi was only able to manage a few words. Don't get him wrong, it was lovely to see her again, but...
"Ah, Yoshino..."
How was he supposed to tell her about her husband?
"..."
But upon catching sight of Shikamaru, Inoichi bowed his head. Glad to be seeing his mother once more, the boy was actually smiling, the joy he was experiencing reaching his eyes. A rare sight indeed.
"I'll speak to you later, Yoshino," he muttered. "It's important, but--"
"Your son needs you more now."
Let Shikamaru have his moment. After losing his former teacher, his father... he needed it.
"Hello, dear. How have you been?"
"Hello dad, I’m good," she offered him a smile, closing the distance between them. She had just headed out from the infirmary (finally) and wished her good health extended to the one who was lying in the bed in the ward she had just left.
"What about yourself? How are classes?"
"Ah, good, good. I'm doing alright, and classes are fine, as usual..."
Though the amount of papers that he had to grade had increased exponentially over the past few weeks. Unsurprising, he supposed. Even though this was his first time teaching, he had come to familiarize himself with the school seasons. Right now, it wouldn't be long till it was time for a deluge of exams to engulf the entire student body.
"Where have you been? I haven't seen you around in awhile."
Usually, he would at least catch sight of his daughter up and about, but this was not the case as of recent.
memorabilia || nara shikamaru
Well, today was the day.
Normally, this was an occasion that Yamanaka Inoichi would greet with open arms- just like he had during the many years past. How could he not? The Yamanaka and Nara clans have always had very close ties, and in turn, so did he and Nara Shikaku, who were team mates for the longest time. It ought to come as to no surprise that he saw his long-time friend's son as family as well. --Why, fact was, Inoichi had even been there at the hospital on the very day that Yoshino gave birth to Shikamaru.
Anxiously awaiting for the arrival of his own daughter - who came directly a day after Shikamaru - Inoichi had spent many hours at the hospital, pacing back and forth.
And now, the boy that he had been introduced to so long ago had grown into a young man of seventeen.
"Shikamaru."
Inoichi did not know what would be best to gift the boy with- but he knew that no material item would do. Especially not after what had transpired...
He knew that this in no way could ever replace the loss of a father, but it was the closest to anything that Inoichi could ever give him. ... And so, the carefully wrapped package exchanged hands. Although it had seen through many years of training and missions, the leather of the pouch still held strong, and the weapons and essentials that it held inside, glinted and shone, well maintained by Inoichi himself.
"This was once your father's."
"Keep it well," he said. "Happy birthday, Shikamaru."
Having no desire to prolong the silence for much longer than need be, Inoichi offered the boy a grin.
"Now, what say you to a round of food at the closest Korean restaurant with your team mates? It'll be my treat."
inoichiyamanaka:
inoichiyamanaka:
inoichiyamanaka replied to your post: …
[Are they…?]
inoichiyamanaka:
"Hmm? Woah Sir, that is a lot of hair!"
It wasn’t like she didn’t saw guys with long hair…but with such length was so unusual she almost forgot what she was originally about to say.
Hn?
Was his hair so unusual?
Inoichi could only smile sheepishly at the young girl's comment. Ah, yes. This may be the norm for himself and the rest of those in the Yamanaka clan - it was tradition for them, after all - but it may not be so for everyone else... everywhere else.
"Is it really that strange?"
"Ino-chan’s acting pretty weird lately…"
"…Maybe her rebel phase came up quite late.”
Rebel phase?
Was there something going on in his daughter's life that he was not aware of?
