Please stop. What other people roleplay is not even your problem. Friendly reminder that that girl IS eleven, and the way are you acting is very intimidating. That's worse than what she is doing honestly.
Stop? As in allow an eleven year old girl continue to roleplay with people who could be unknowingly role playing with someone they believe to be of age? No, I most certainly will not stop, for the sake of the roleplaying community and for the sake of the law, I’m not going to stop. When roleplaying puts someone in a situation that compromises Tumblr’s legality and their own safety, I’m going to speak up and say something. It would be wrong of me if I didn’t. All day long, every day, I go about my life as a passive and non-assertive individual. I’m not the sort of person to typically call someone out on much of anything, but this is much different. This sort of thing is very important to me. When I was eleven years old, I was surprised to know what sex was, and it was something that someone exposed me to— something that traumatized me; but quite honestly that’s besides the point.
She may think that writing smut helps the development of her characters and she is free to believe whatever she pleases. But as was mentioned, those words would not stand up in a court of law. Something harmless can so easily turn into something harmful. Can you imagine how it would feel to maybe a successful college student who roleplayed in their spare time, to take on a roleplay with an eleven year old author without knowing it because she neglected to specify her age? Can you imagine if he found out, or if someone on tumblr reported him to the police? Did you ever ponder the notion of her parent(s) or guardian(s) having a coming to jesus with themselves and going through her computer to find that she’s been having what old people call “cyber sex”?
Don’t tell me that if you found your eleven year old using words like “Cock” and “Blowjob” that you wouldn’t be mortified, and scared, and angry. You would blame the other writer, of course, because they’re older. You would blame that eighteen year old, successful college student even though he had no clue who he was talking to in the first place!
Either way, the law would get involved, and that eighteen year old student who just thought he’d pursue a hobby on tumblr would go to jail, and would be labeled forever a sex offender. There goes his life. Tumblr would most definately face lawsuits or a lawsuit concerning the safety measures that they are taking and their seemingly ‘lax’ security.
…But even if none of that happened— even if it never came to that, can you imagine the shame that any adult would feel if they found out they were writing sexually explicit content with someone young enough to be their sister? Or possibly their daughter? It’s not right. That’s all what it comes down to. There are so many scenarios pertaining to what exactly could go wrong when an eleven year old, or anybody underage comes onto Tumblr and starts writing smut.
It’s dangerous. It’s wrong, and I’m not going to put my head down like I do in real life, and let it slip by. I won’t be responsible for being a coward if I can help it.
Not when on Tumblr, I have a voice.
