A treasure cove of mischief and distorted fantasies, the basement of the Pasaje Guemes, with its cabaret, theatre and restaurant, has charmed its eclectic public during the 1920's throught the 50's. Now a days The Piazzolla Tango Centro de Arte offers the chance to visit the beautiful interior of the cabaret, theatre and restaurant whist serving dinner and staging tango shows. Teatro Colón
There was a time when Buenos Aires was a city of wealth and opulence. Although the economic woes of the country have changed that, reminders of other more fortunate times are spread out through the city for us to marvel at. One of the most magnificent upstanding examples of the city's past prosperity is the prestigious Teatro Colón. This beautiful opera house was inaugurated in 1908. Today, more than a hundred years later, it is still one of the worlds most distinguished theaters, showing internationally renowned acts. Tours of the theatre are available every day from 9am-3.45pm and are a great way to learn more about the history of the building, the architecture and the operas, ballets and orchestras which have graced the theatre's stage. Additionally, we highly recommend you to experience one of the productions that are being staged during your visit.

Off the Beaten Path: Museo de Xul Solar
Art can sometimes be taken so seriously that all the fun is dragged out of it. If you tend towards a more playful approach to life, or if you are an art loving chess whiz, you will definitely love the Xul Solar museum. It not only exhibits this artists colorful metaphysical dreamlike paintings, but also some of his nutty but brilliant inventions, such as a new global language (he would have loved the internet!), and the Panjuego, a game which he made up and played with many of his friends including Borges whose books he sometimes illustrated. Unfortunately for us, as the game changed every time it was played, there are no rules that specify how to go about it, otherwise we would be more than happy to challenge you to a Panjuego tournament in this lovely intimate art museum on a rainy afternoon!
Must See in Buenos Aires #3
Palacio Barolo
At the beginning of the twentieth century, Mario Palanti was commissioned by Luis Barolo, a European agricultural producer, to design a statuesque building intended for rental purposes. Expecting Europe to break out into a series of wars that would destroy the continent, a common belief at the time, Mr. Barolo wanted the building to be inspired by ´The Divine Comedy´ so that it could hold Dante Alighieri's remains once Europe was destroyed. Construction of this regal building full of references to the poet, began in 1919 for what was to be the tallest structure in Latin America. Now a days it is used as office space and as a tourist attraction. Guided tours are available Mondays and Thursdays from 4pm to 7pm and evening guided tours on Mondays and Wednesdays at 8pm and Thursdays at 8.30pm include tasting of an awarded wine and a national delicacy.

5 O'clock Tea: Confiteria La Ideal
Perhaps one of the most enjoyable traditions Buenos Aires has imported from Europe is it's 5 o'clock tea in the coffee houses that serve it! A warm submarino (a chocolate bar sunk in hot milk) or coffee with medialunas are welcome comforts as the days get colder, but there's nothing like the cafes themselves.
Confiteria Ideal is one of the oldest in the city. Built in the early 1900's it is graced with high ceilings, vitrauxs, chandeliers, a marble staircase and an old lift reminiscent of a past magnificence.
A wonderful place to stop in after browsing through the Corrientes bookstores or before attending to a nearby theatre function, this is also a place to go to for tango shows and milongas.

This glitzy posh bar with a dark seventies inspired interior offers great drinks which you trade purchased casino chips (isabelinas) for. Upbeat house music, pulsating ceiling lights and a courtyard with a lit fireplace complete the glamour of one of the best bars in the city.

Happy St Patrick's Day!
The city awaits a night of fun as the St Patricks Day celebrations approach. To join the ruckus, Av. San Martin and surrounding streets in Microcentro, where all the pubs are located, promise a great crowd and many a guinness!
Sugar and Buda Bar in the Palermo SOHO area are also hosting St. Patricks Day parties and if you want to listen to some bagpipes, the Irish-Argentine community has organized a parade starting 6.45 PM at Arroyo and Suipacha in Microcentro!
Off the Beaten Path: San Telmo Art Walk
San Telmo is usually associated with antiques and local tradition, however it is also one of the contemporary artistic epicenters of the city. Graffiti, street art and up and coming galleries are scattered on the blocks of this historical ´barrio.´
The San Telmo Art Walk is offered by Juanele every Tuesday and Thursday at 3pm and guides you through the who is who and what is what of these art ridden streets. The three hour walk includes a tour of both the street art and galleries. A great way to get to know the current Buenos Aires art scene whilst getting to know it´s charming old-style San Telmo neighborhood.
Meeting point: CCEBA, Centro Cultural de España en Buenos Aires, Balcarce 1150 in San Telmo. Tuesday and Thursday 3 PM.
