I’ve been noticing some confusion in the notes regarding what culture this is, so here’s some more info!
The girl in the video is Sámi. The Sámi are an indigenous people from the region of Sápmi, which encompasses northern parts of Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia.
The traditional clothing of Sámi people look different depending on which area tradition they belong to. This girl is north Sámi and she’s wearing a Lyngen dress (ivgu gákti in the north Sámi language), which means her family/ancestors came from Lyngen, Norway. Lyngen’s proximity to the sea made fishing a common means of livelihood for the Sámi living there, which earned them the name “sea Sámi”.
The girl in the video mentions that Sámi people get harassed a lot on the 17th of May, which is the Constitutional Day / National Day of Norway.
It should be noted and known that Sweden still hasn’t signed the ILO convention on the rights of indigenous peoples, and that it’s just in recent years that there’s been some awareness raised about the historical and ongoing colonial relationship between Sweden and the Sámi people. https://fuf.se/en/magasin/europas-enda-erkanda-urfolk-bor-i-sverigre/
HOLY FUCK THE AMAZON WORKERS WON THEIR UNION VOTE
im running so late to this but holy fucking shit this is historic
last thing - while unions are obviously a collaborative effort and this incredible victory is the result of the hard work and sacrifices of many different people i think it’s absolutely essential to highlight the role of ALU’s founder chris smalls rn
chris was fired by amazon in 2020 for organizing a walk-out in the wake of their absolutely criminal handling of covid protocols in staten island. in a meeting with bezos and other amazon execs amazon’s lawyer was caught bragging that he wasnt “smart” or “articulate” enough to organize against them…now he’s helped facilitate the first successful union vote in amazon’s history - eat shit!
Waxing/laser treatments and skincare stuff should be covered by insurance.
Hello everyone! As you can see, I am NOT feeling very cash money right now 😭 I was planning on going back to work this month, but now I’m in the ICU again. Hopefully the stay won’t be as long, but I’m still gonna need to recover for a bit at home. I know I’ve been making a ton of donation posts, but I seriously need the help since I can’t supplement my disability income right now, and I barely get enough to cover my expenses. Any help would be greatly appreciated ❤️
Paypal / Venmo / Cash.app
PLEASE DON’T SCROLL PAST: I’M ABOUT TO BE HOMELESS
As some of you know I’ve been evicted from my apartment. I am non-binary and my parents don’t agree, and refuse to offer help. I’ve barely been able to afford my medications, food, etc.
With help from some donations, I’ve been able to stay at a shelter and save a small amount for a new place to live. But because of my rental history, the cheapest place I’ve found wants a large deposit.
I need $1300 to safely move to a new place.
If anyone could spare any amount, or reblog this post, I would be so grateful. Everyday I am terrified and don’t know how much longer I can do this. I cannot do it alone.
I hate internet begging but I don’t have anywhere else to turn.
My paypal link is here
My venmo is Olivia-MR
please reblog, please share, please boost!
$827/$1300 !!!
Getting so close!! Thank you so much to everyone, please keep sharing!!!

Transcript:
As a Deaf person, what's the one thing I wish hearing people understood?
Recently I was having a coversation with my therapist, who is a hearing person.
I was expressing my frustration about how many artistic spaces are not accessible to me, and her first instinct was to ask if I wore hearing aids, and I said "Nope, ears bald," and then she asked if I've ever considered a cochlear implant which, if you're unfamiliar, is a pretty serious surgery, and I had to stop her.
Because, when hearing people and able-bodied people are faced with the reality of the inaccessible world that they have helped to create, their first instinct is always to try and fix the Deaf or disabled person.
I am not broken. My ears are not broken. My body is not broken just because it doesn't function the same way yours does. We are only disabled because you have told us we are disabled. We are only disabled because you built a world for YOU, not for us. Why should I have to change myself when we can simply change the world?

[Image ID: Two screenshots from r/ChronicIllness. User u/Curious_Person111 asks “Why do some people just not get the concept of an illness getting worse over time?” It’s labelled as rant. “You could lift this box a month ago!” Yes, but I can’t now. How hard is it to get this trough some people’s heads? ProfessorOfEyes replied
Because they have internalized the ableist belief that health is a direct result of your actions and is something that you earn, and therefore illness should go away and get better if you do the right things. They are used to illness as something temporary that they can prevent or fix by doing the right healthy things, so when they see someone with an illness they cannot control contiuing to be sick or getting sicker, at best it confuses them because they assume u should be getting better, or at worst they think you’re doing something wrong or not trying hard enough and they need to start giving u unsolicited advice or tell u to try harder :/ End ID]
