If the condition of things which we were made for is not yet, what were any reality which we can substitute? We will not be shipwrecked on a vain reality.
Henry David Thoreau, Walden
Why should we be in such desperate haste to succeed, and in such desperate enterprises? If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away.
Henry David Thoreau, Walden
If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them.
Henry David Thoreau, Walden
If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.
Henry David Thoreau, Walden
Perhaps it seemed to me that I had several more lives to live, and could not spare any more time for that one. It is remarkable how easily and insensibly we fall into a particular route, and make a beaten track for ourselves.
Henry David Thoreau, Walden
We need to witness our own limits transgressed, and some life pasturing freely where we never wander
Henry David Thoreau, Walden
Don't be sad it's over, be glad it happened!

“The questions never end, do they? And that’s the joy in life!”
- Paperhand Puppets Intervention show in Chapel Hill
It’s my favorite quote out of the Humans of New York book.
Initiative
I appreciate initiative; when you do something just because you want to do it and not because you are supposed to do it; when you create a structure for you to achieve what you want instead of waiting for the ideal platform.
The company learned that production improves when management shows concern for workers , and management and workers are "organized in cooperation with management in the pursuit of a common purpose."
Phil Meyers, The New Precision Journalism
I remember meeting this lady who works at the DMV that day. It was an ordinary afternoon, there was a roomful of bored people waiting their turn. This lady was chirpy and sweet despite of the mundane routines that her job puts her through. She talked to me, told me her story and made the dreary office a little brighter. She has been working there for 25 years, but she took off 9 months recently to undergo 4 surgeries. Her stomach still hurt her even as she was talking to me. Yet her smile remained; her sweetness still in abundance.
People like her make my world meaningful.
How can you measure impact? It might only be felt 10 years later.
