The setting is as natural as possible, and that’s the real place as opposed to an artificial movie set so in that way it was the style we were working from. But then we take artistic license in altering things to convey more what it would feel like at that time, using music that gives the emotional quality that I wanted the scene to have as opposed to what actually might be the song [from that period]. I plan that stuff out before we shoot, so I try to play a lot of the songs during the scenes. If it’s a scene that doesn’t have dialogue, then we’ll play that during it, the track. And if it does have dialogue, then we’ll sometimes play a song, then cut it right before. So it’s kind of setting the mood on the set. - Wes Anderson

In striking visual detail, The Codes of Gender explores Goffman’s central claim that gender ideals are the result of ritualized cultural performance, uncovering a remarkable pattern of masculine and feminine displays and poses.

It looks beyond advertising as a medium that simply sells products, and beyond analyses of gender that focus on biological difference or issues of objectification and beauty, to provide a clear-eyed view of the two-tiered terrain of identity and power relations.

A heartwarming story about the way that books help strengthen the bonds between friends, family, and community! This is my first directorial project since moving to Los Angeles. I wanted to keep it simple, and make some work that was emotionally engaging, something that positively gives back to my community in an effort to put my best foot first.
