I keep noticing cis people tend to be more upset about an accusation of transphobia/cissexism/transmisogyny rather than the transphobia/cissexism/transmisogyny that hurts trans people everywhere.
I’ve been noticing this same thing with racism, plain old misogyny, homophobia, pretty much any form of bigotry.
THIS IS NOT OK
Holy fuck, you can always count on a cisfem to walk into a discussion by trans women for trans women and appropriate the shit out of oppression…
PS: “plain old misogyny…” First of all, fuck you for the snarky degendering. Second, fuck your special pleading for cisogyny and its oh so helpless victim group which somehow is the only kyriarchal victim group to be less jailed, homeless, and dead than its putative oppressors. Oh, and with a healthy dollop of rape erasure served alongside:
The graphic and CDC refer to CAFABs as women and CAMABs as men. This is fucked up and cissexist and also standard operating procedure, but it’s also the best raw data on sexual violence, and the least open to reportage bias (because they asked their interviewees not to categorize what happened to them, but to answer yes/no questions about what happened to them, though they still have the problem of one group not being as socially permitted to characterize their sexual contact as unwanted) that I’ve seen. And guess what: It shows that trans women and cis men as a group are ever so slightly more likely to be raped than cis women and trans men.
I’ve explained how rape erasure and victim blaming ostensibly directed at cis men is often structurally transmisogynistic and disproportionately directed at the vast majority of trans women who haven’t transitioned (US transition prevalence is 0.5%, identification prevalence is 1% and the absolute lower bound on implicit trans prevalence is 4% because that transition prevalence has been found in some countries, and there are no structurally transsexist countries where transition is favoured to non-transition) and how cisfems never, ever, ever, have a fucking praxis or analysis that treats privileging of masculinity as anything but an attack on them, because again, the only time a cisfem ever seems concerned about transmisogyny is when they can use it to argue that what they face is in any way approaching the same kind of oppression in quality or degree.
At any rate, you know, when Chomsky notes that if the third of Americans who claim they believe 9/11 was an inside job actually believed it, and actually lived their stated principles, the entire United States would be shut down with mass protests, I’m always reminded of cisfeminist pleading that they believe forced-to-penetrate is rape. If that were true, they’d be tearing down edifices and angrily protesting their own writers and thinkers and the people who keep erasing over a million American rapes a year. Not to mention, I’d be a far less lonely feminist.
Hi,
First up, I’d like to say sorry and that I’ve deleted the post.
Second, I’m gonna say that I didn’t read your entire post because I suffer from brain fog, have read all the statistics there are, and I understood my fuck up from your first few sentences.
I don’t want to excuse myself of wrongdoing, I realised the second I saw your reblog why it was a shitty thing to do, I’d just like to say that when I said “plain old misogyny” I chose those words to acknowledge that trans misogyny is on a whole other level of nasty.
~ A not cis, not fem, who doesn’t call themselves trans because they straight up don’t face the shit you face (with love).
Glad to see you at least attempt to acknowledge your mistakes.
To specify cisfem is short for cisfeminist, refers to an ideology and who is privileged by it, and not a sex or cis/trans status, and now I see why you followed and unfollowed in short order.
But no, I don’t think you remotely understand the scale of your fuckup. You understand the thing you’ll get yelled at by other cisfems for doing, but no, you do not understand the magnitude of problematic shit buried in your me-too-ism. If you really did love trans women, you might begin to question why there’s so much femme-shaming of the CAMAB, and rape erasure, and abuse erasure, and buck-passing when it comes to the needs of trans women, salted through an ideology that presumes at least three-quarters of trans women (the ones who aren’t out) are cis men.
But whatever. Please return to spending time defending Anita Sarkeesian for not even mentioning Aerannis or whatever the fuck you anti-gamer-gaters do (PS: I’m anti-both-of-you-groups-of-privileged-fucks arguing over the relative cis gender representation mix in more games featuring protagonists like you than you could ever play already while people are dying of gatekeeping. I’m also pro-noticing that time an anti-GGer told me to burn my disgusting hand on a roaring flame and got faved and reblogged by all her friends.)
PS: If you’re not cis, you’re trans. And vice versa. Your sex either matches your assigned sex, or it doesn’t (or it does but due to internalized sexism you declare that you’re not quite cis) But it’s nice of you to acknowledge what is your conditional cis privilege at minimum.
Still, arguing that you can be not cis yet not trans is an inherently transmisogynistic position. It’s up there with the asterisk in terms of being an umbrella to hide CAFAB folk from accusations of cis privilege.
