advice to the young lesbians out there: who you actually are as a person is infinitely more interesting, endearing, and overall better than trying to emulate some fabricated persona of the ideal cool lesbian you see online. be silly. be goofy. have a unique sense of style. like weird things. be loud. be awkward. be dorky. we’re LESBIANS. we didn’t get into this business to try to conform and look like the cool kids. that’s never what we’ve been about.

There’s so many stereotypes in this community that I constantly see people trying to conform to and it genuinely upsets me that so many people still feel such a pressure in a community that should be all about individuality and uniqueness. The main reason I love dykes is for all our richness and differences in expression and experiences - it would be so boring if we were all the same.

Not everyone is butch or femme and fits into that and that’s okay - you don’t need to feel like one of those labels entirely fits you to be a lesbian.

Not everyone is into leather or latex or kinky sex or even having sex at all and that is okay.

Some people don’t want coloured hair or piercings or tattoos and that is okay.

Some people just want to be boring and live a life that some people might think is boring and that is okay.

Most of the ‘cool’ lesbians you see on the internet do not entirely lead the life you’ve imagined they do.

Embracing your identity and who you are as a dyke should be the easiest thing you’ve ever done. If whatever you’re currently doing feels hard then you’re probably not there yet, and that’s okay too. But just know that when you do figure it out it will be the most natural thing that has ever come to you.
