The weight of the crown has been a burden Kit has carried for as long as he can remember. The eldest of King Hubert’s sons, Christopher, affectionately known as Kit, always carried the weight of the world on his shoulders. As the next king, he was expected to be an excellent role model for his younger brothers, Florian and Philip. It was one of the many titles he had been shouldered with. After the loss of their mother, the role of a parental figure was one title Kit struggled with most. In the flash of an eye, he was no longer seen as an older brother, but Kit handled it with grace, as he always did. As he was expected to. He wasn’t allowed the same freedom as his brothers. It was something that never bothered Kit. He was content to fulfill his father's wishes. Of course, he had desires of his own, but he never acted upon them until the night of the royal ball that was held to find Kit a queen.

The king’s time was running out, a fact he had kept from his boys. He was desperate to see Kit betrothed not only to ensure the future of Ulstead but to know that his eldest would be taken care of. Kit was set to marry a nice princess from a nearby kingdom, but the plans were thwarted when he announced to his father that he intended to marry the mysterious girl he met at the ball. All that he had of her was a single glass slipper. Whoever owned the shoe was going to be his future wife. It was a ludicrous idea. Once the king advised his son not to follow, but Kit chose to follow his heart. He never got far in his search. Not long after, Maleficent threatened their kingdom. A sick and dying King Hubert begged his sons to leave Ulstead. The future of the kingdom needed to be protected. Kit fought hard to stay and help his dad, but ultimately followed orders as he always did. It’s how Kit and his brothers ended up in Elias.

The Charmont brothers were in Elias for protection. It was to be a temporary move once Maleficent was vanquished. Kit never imagined he would find what he was looking for in this utopia, but little did he know that the maiden he had danced with was living in the city as well. Kit reconnected with Ella. The two vowing their love for one another, promising marriage once they left Elias and returned home. However, Kit never imagined Maleficent would find her way to Elias. Let alone being thrown into the middle of a magical war he never wanted to be part of.

Elias had become home to him. He refused to let Maleficent destroy another place he cared for. It was only natural for him to aid in the battle against her. He never expected to lose so much by doing so. As the dust settled over the city and daylight broke against a twilight sky, Kit held the lifeless body of his youngest brother, Philip, in his arms. The loss of his mother was heartbreaking, but the loss of his youngest brother? The guilt of failing Philip was etched into his bones. He would carry it with him for the rest of his life. He wasn’t given much time to grieve before news broke of his father’s passing a few short days later. Kit was returning home to not only plan two funerals but also a coronation and a wedding.

As a royal, your kingdom wasn’t allowed to see you mourn. You had to put on a brave face for your country to ensure that a bright future lay beyond tragedy. And oh, what a tragedy it was to lose so many you loved. In all his years of preparation, no one could prepare Kit for how he ascended the throne, but with Ella at his side, he did the best he could. For the last five years, Kit Charmont has been a noble and benevolent king. Though the loss of King Hubert and Prince Philip still weighs heavily on their people’s hearts, they know they are in trusted hands with Kit. The wounds had begun to finally scab over when Kit received news that Elias was in danger yet again. A new darkness loomed under the surface. Kit wouldn’t have cared so much if his only living brother, Florian, and Philip’s widow, Aurora, weren’t still living in Elias. He had already lost so much. So much had been taken from him. He refused to let Hades inflict pain on his family.

Kit had sworn he would never return to Elias. In his mind, his business was finished. There was a kingdom that needed him, but his family needed him more. Kit refused to fail them again. With his wife by his side, Kit Charmont returned to Elias.

This time with a vengeance.
