Okay so I decided that the fixation won and I am now making a whole sideblog dedicated to Thomas the Tank Engine posting, and it'll be active as long as I'm trapped in the fixation LMAO

Speaking of the reboot faces, I did see someone say that Mavis' reboot face kinda reminds them of Britt Allcroft, and that would actually be neat if it's true. The thing is it's also a huge whiplash compared to her TVS face (which I liked for its simplicity)

Seeing the old Charlie toy and the new Charlie toy side by side is like seeing pictures of a trans woman before she started HRT and then pictures of her after (beautiful, happy)

Okay for real I think the BWBA is the worst one to think about in terms of "What were the driver and fireman thinking" because Thomas didn't like. Make them come on the boat to Senegal with him. Right? They didn't just spend a month on a boat with only the clothes on their backs and then several months more without any other belongings, right???? They surely had at least enough time to pack for the trip??? Right????

Thomas' entire journey was basically Sodor -> boat to Senegal -> land travel to Tanzania -> boat to Brazil -> land travel to California -> boat to China -> land travel to India -> land travel all the way back to Sodor

At the very least, Thomas was gone for six months (if not more), which means his driver and fireman were gone for six months. And not only that, Nia joined him on the trip, meaning her driver and fireman were also along for the ride for the whole time

Considering Sir Topham Hatt could never catch up to them, that means he didn't have any contact with the drivers either. Which meant they were wholly on their own up until someone actually spotted them in India and went out of their way to contact the railway back in Sodor, which is likely when contact could finally be established

The real question is how does Thomas react to Joe saying "btw you were never supposed to be on Sodor at all, we stole you and brought you here"

I think Thomas would be confused at first because he had such a great past few decades, what do you mean he was never meant to be there??? But in the end he would understand that that time still mattered. He helped build the railway. He has his own branchline. He's made so many friends. Whatever he was supposed to do doesn't really matter anymore, especially because it was for a war that has long ended. Whatever would have happened would not have resulted in the same engine he is today. Also it would be easier to swallow because the Allies won the war

Okay here's my Thomas' crew headcanons so far:

Joe Bloggs and Tom Cobley are Thomas' original driver and fireman, the ones who came with him to Sodor in 1915. It was claimed they were sent there by "accident," when the truth is that Joe and Tom basically stole Thomas and ran so they wouldn't end up in the war effort, knowing it was likely they would never be able to return to England. The only people who know were the driver and fireman and the first Topham Hatt. Thomas never learned the truth until the night of Joe's retirement

Thomas' current driver and fireman are Robert "Bob" Bloggs and Terry Atkins. Bob became Thomas' driver after Joe's retirement; Terry became the fireman several years later

Bob married Alice Smith and they had one child, Margaret. She becomes Thomas' new driver after Bob's retirement. Because she's the third generation Bloggs to be Thomas' driver, she goes by Maggie Bloggs on the railway, even after she got married

Thomas thinks every driver he has is part of the Bloggs family. This is partially true, but he also applies this to relief drivers, which would not be true. He doesn't apply this to the firemen

The only time Joe was truly mad at Thomas was when Thomas broke his snowplow. Literally everything else was fine up until the moment Thomas refused to cooperate with the snowplow. Things got better though, after Thomas learned his lesson the very next day

Bob's very first run as the main driver for Thomas was the Down the Mine story. You know how well that went :P Bob got really stressed because it was literally his first day as Thomas' official driver and he already got trapped in a hole. The fireman had to console him

Bob thinks of Thomas as a cat passed down to him by his father. Which means that he would ride to hell with him, but he would also be constantly scolding him for his cheekiness. Terry teases Bob by calling him Thomas' second dad

The BWBA movie is basically where things come to a head. A strained marriage between Bob and Alice is what gets him to go along with Thomas' plan to travel around the world. Terry gets roped along too, but only because he didn't even realize what was happening. Terry admits his feelings for Bob. Bob realizes he's bisexual and also has feelings for Terry. Bob and Alice have a long-distance phone call and Alice admits she might be a lesbian. Bob and Terry kiss at some point. Bob and Alice remain friends. I realize that the "Jokingly shipping a pairing to actually shipping it" pipeline is real

If there was a Christmas special to be had, it would be Bob, Terry, and Alice getting together and figuring out how to break it to Maggie that 1) Bob and Alice are separated, 2) Alice is in love with a woman, and 3) Bob is in a relationship with his railway co-worker, and also that 4) this all happened while she was away at university. All I know is that the entire sequence of events is what happens when you invite an engine to the Christmas family gathering. Maggie is stunned, but chill about it. And then Joe Bloggs walks through the door

"Lesbian acts had never been illegal" Bob Bloggs and Terry Atkins fighting for their lives to keep their relationship on the down low while Alice Bloggs is talking to them about her plans to run away with the woman she has a crush on while they're at the pub because what are they gonna do? Arrest her?

Me: I think there would be a lot more nuance when it comes to the concept of love with steam engines within the RWS; the concept would likely be introduced by humans and maybe even instilled in the same way that love is instilled in other stories like the Velveteen Rabbit (real is not how you're made, it happens to you etc. etc.), but it doesn't mean that steam engines would fall in love as it is perceived in amatonormative societies. That being said, an engine may form a close connection with both its crew and other engines in ways that are similar to how humans find connection and may not necessarily be romantic (platonic, familial, queerplatonic, etc.), but it is a serious bond regardless

ngl I think the concept of gender is also instilled by humans and is largely upheld by humans as well. Engines don't really have "girl" engines or "boy" engines per se, but humans see it like the way you see an animal in the wild and think "Ohh that's a big boy" or "Ooooh she stretch". It only becomes a problem when the humans start assigning gender roles to the engines

But I do imagine some engines wanting to experiment with gender, or consider their gender a huge part of their identity, maybe as important as their livery or number. Misgendering such an engine would be like trying to paint James blue: Not Great!

I can also see an engine asking to be called "Old girl" instead of "Old boy" because the former sounds better to them, and from then on the engine was a girl because everyone started referring to her as one. And she loves it. She loves being an old girl

Anyway that is to say: there is always a high chance that if you asked an engine "Are you a boy or a girl," they will reply "I am Really Useful!!!". Also, the Troublesome Trucks are agender. To me
