He's there again, knocking on Zephyr's door. "Zephyr... I've, uh.. ah've been thinkin' fer quite a while now. I've got me mind sorted out, an'... honestly, I..." he sighs, drawing a deep breath. It was clear that this was going to be hard for him to say. "I hones'ly think you were right... we need t'pace this a lil' better. Though... y'know me, not the, uh... best at pacin', hehe. Wha' I mean is, I think we should slow down... but ah need yer help."

Zephyr slid open the door, resting on the doorframe yet again, but her posturing and attitude were a lot less defensive and agitated. She was willing to listen and help. “Well, of course I’ll help. But, what sort of help are you wanting?” She looked him over. He honestly…looked terrible. He clearly didn’t take her lecture well, along with whatever mental hurdles he had to climb. Ruffled feathers, tired eyes, even his crest seemed to lack it’s usual oomph. Zephyr felt a little guilty. “I know I can help with preening.” She joked, but meant it genuinely. “We can talk while doin’ that, yea?”

Zephyr hummed as she worked on cleaning him up, and listening to him vent. She had a feeling it’d simply come down to fear of losing another partner. Wrapping her arms around his neck, she cooed softly, trying to comfort him. “I understand, and I’m sorry I acted so stupid. I was all about ‘pacing’ it and then I get drunk and screech about that final commitment. Sends out mixed signals.” Zephyr sighed, rocking herself as she held him. “We’ll work this out. Nothin’ we can’t do together.”

Benedict would just sit there, feeling Zephyr wrapping her arms around his neck, cooing to him and feeling his body being rocket along with her. It was all appreciated, but at the same time… there was so much more. So much more that he wanted to say… to shout, to scream out loud. His voice was choked for a moment, forcing himself to be quiet as Zephyr apologized for something she couldn’t control, and promising they’d work something out. He just shook his head, his hands moving up to grip Zephyr’s arms firmly, as if fearing she’d disappear, muttering a single line softly, accent completely absent;

 “… don’t want to lose you…” he muttered, and again; “I don’t want to lose you…” his talons clutched her arms firmer, trying his best not to harm her… and then he broke. “… I-I don’t wanna lose you too!!” he exclaimed suddenly, before suddenly wresting himself out of Zephyr’s grasp. He felt constricted. Contained when he wanted to explode. He’d stand before her now, his whole body trembling. He was literally trembling. His hands shook slowly, his body looked ready to break down, and his eyes were filled to the brim with tears that started to run down.

“W-Why… Why is all of this happenin’ to just me?! What have I’ve ever done to piss the universe off?! I don’t deserve this!! I… I lost EVERYTHING, Zephyr!! M-My home… my wife, my kids… a-all of that! GONE! GONE AND NEVER COMIN’ BACK! A-And I just… I just wanna move on! I want to be fucking HAPPY for once! But all this damn guilt… all this bullshit fear! I-I can’t! I just can’t!” he looked ready to tear his own feathers out at this point, before falling to his knees, whimpering and crying as tears flowed freely down his face, leaning forward as he’d hold around Zephyr’s waist, his head resting on her lap as hie whimpered softly

“P-Please… no more… no more of the frickin’ past… I… I wanna move on…”

Zephyr jolted, not expecting such a huge breakdown. But, it was needed. It was so obviously needed. She could do nothing except lay herself gently atop of him and coo comforting words and sounds, while he held onto her like a raft in a storm.

The past is so hard to let go of. Zephyr understands this so well, and knows the frustration and anger of it lingering like some fetid wound on the soul. Gently stroking Benedict’s crest, she continued her gentle assurances to him.

“I’m not going anywhere. I’m right here. And I’m gonna help you.”

She will help weather this storm, after all, she controls it’s very essence. It will bend to her, not the other way around.

“Well, ah jus’… ah dunno. I jus’ want ya t’be comfortable ‘round me, I guess.” Benedict admitted, as he’d just nod and accept the offer of preening, stepping inside of Zephyr’s room as he’d proceed to sit down, letting Zephyr do her magic. “So I was thinkin’ for myself… an’ Pendles helped me a bit… well, as much as he usually helps out.” he admitted with a low chuckle. “An’ well, the thing y’said last time… ah kinda agree. We’re maybe goin’ into this a bit too quick.”

“Ah ain’ saying yer preenin’ and constant attention t’me ain’ what’s wrong.” he added, a smile finally featuring upon his face, one that was genuine at least. “Tha’s just… y’know, normal Aviant stuff. An’ I think I used the wron’ words when y’were drunk. Wha’ I was meanin’ to say is no’ that ah ain’ ready fer committin’ to ya. ‘Cause trus’ me, I did not pull off all ‘dose nice speeches fer nothin’!”

“I guess ah was meanin’ to say that…” he’d sigh deeply again. “Ah’m… scared of committin’… cause, y’know… we all know wha’ happened las’ time ah had a… wife.” and there it was. The sole reason why Benedict had been afraid of committing. “I just don’… d-don’t want it t’happen again… I-I dun’ wanna lose ‘nother one…”

Zephyr rolled over to look at the holo screen. “It’s not his being with others in of itself that’s gettin’ to me. It’s...like, is he afraid of commitment with me, so he’s getting his emotional and sexual fulfillment with others? I feel guilty, but also angry? Like...sorry for wanting to have a happy life with you, dick?” She crowed angrily, feathers puffing in agitation before releasing a frustrated sigh. “As soon as he told me he was still dealing with his own things, I should’ve just called it there. Saved us both grief.” Her eyes shut, brow furrowed in thought. “M’sorry Tobes. I know you said you’d listen but it’s still no fun hearing someone beat themselves up. Thanks, though.”

We’re both fucked up here.” She flopped backward onto her bed, adjusting her holo so she wasn’t out of detection for voice or video. “I shoulda just left it. Not started anythin’ at all.”

Zephyr balked slightly at this….mass of man in front of her. How does one even get that huge? It took a lot for her to not immediately start grabbing at him and assailing him with questions of her own, but thanks to the time she’d spent aboard the NOVA, she had gotten slightly more used to all these new types of people. At his own question though, Zephyr cawed a loud laugh. “Hah! Well, yea, you’re right. But I was raised by Aviants, and always sorta felt like I should be one. So, now I am!” She puffed herself up proudly, posing and flaring her crest to show herself off. Surely this bedazzled brawler could appreciate such a show of pride.

And he  D I D! Confusion aside, El Dragón understood where the now-Aviant Battleborn came from! Despite being born and raised in an LLC robot manufacturing colony,  El Dragón always felt like he belonged under the spotlight rather than in a stuffy garage! So he could only give a boisterous laugh at the one called Zephyr’s answer as he mimicked her puffing chest with his own. His oily pecs pushed out for all to see. “A H A H A! That is a hell of change to make but I am  I M P R E S S E D  by your dedication! If El Dragón could, he would take on a mighty form of a  D R A G O N  himself!”

“Oh, yeah, got that too.” She said rather nonchalantly, before throwing all her previous hesitations of personal space out the window and gingerly poked a pec. “So, uh. You’re a big guy.” She chirped, before taking a leap and crouch perching onto his massive robotic shoulders, careful not to scratch them too much with her talons. “And fancy arms. Hum.” She puffed again in thought, before swinging her head down, beak wide in a smile. “Basically, you’re really cool and why aren’t we like best friends yet?”
