The flashbacks never lie to you

(Major KHDR spoilers)

So, one plot point of KHDR that has been really confusing for a lot of people (myself included) are the flashbacks to the upper classmen’s deaths in Enchanted Dominion. Each time the story revisits this flashback, it feels like the events shown aren’t consistent with previous flashbacks, which has led to the belief that certain flashbacks are simply inaccurate, with the implication being that the character recounting the events of the flashback is either mistaken or lying. However, upon closer inspection, this is not the case. The flashbacks never lie to you, they merely use strategic character placements, camera framing, and cut-off points in order to manipulate your comprehension of events.

I think the best way to illustrate this will be to simply go over the sequence of events chronologically.

In retrospect I should have talked about Bragi here too, but oh well, I’ll do it now.

When I say that all the flashbacks in this game don’t lie to you, I mean it. This includes Bragi’s “death” scene.

Take note that Bragi is the only one who doesn’t fade away into a white light (aside from Hoder who I already talked about in the above post.) Much like the Hoder “death” flashback included in this montage, this scene doesn’t actually show Bragi’s death, because he didn’t die. This scene is tricking you by being fast-paced and sandwiching Bragi’s “death” in between genuine ones. Eagle-eyed viewers could have noticed the detail of Bragi not fading away and correctly guessed that Bragi survived his encounter with Baldr.

i will also add onto this as a related note about maleficent stuff and darkness stuff that Sigrun looks to Hoder questioningly at the point where they get asked if there was evidence of formless darkness in the underworld scene. This is notable when Sigrun was the person at the back of the formation when Baldr blasted them, and the fact Sigrun looked at Hoder at all for this uh... it haunts me.
