You’re not sure why you even decide to take a walk out so late. You should have headed back to the hotel once you were done with your business but maybe it was some sort of habit you picked up in Inaba. Walking late at night and patrolling was something you did on a daily basis and getting rid of it even out of town was a hard thing to do. Like you were missing something in your day…
This park was familiar to you from back when you used to stay here. It was a bit childish but you wouldn’t mind taking a ride on the swings for a little while.
Your daydreaming was cut short when a girl came up to you out of nowhere. You don’t recall anyone knowing you that would come around these parts but the way that she casually called your name, you’re sure she probably mistook you for someone else.
❝ Uh… ❞ It took you a few seconds to process what was going on. Did she just call you ‘nii-san’? You don’t have any sister, especially one who lived in the city. You stared at her, a bit confused and looked around to see if she was probably referring to someone else but no… You were the only ones here.
Almost by instinct, you were about to tell her to go back home but was it really your business what she was doing here so late at night…? Well, Inaba or not, you were still a cop.
❝ I… think you have the wrong person… Even if it is my name. ❞ How were you supposed to explain yourself? You’re 100% sure you have no sister, or any relative close to you unless this was the same case with your nephew but that was exceptional too. This was beyond awkward but what were you suppose to say? You just stood there, holding your business bag, trying to avoid eye contact with the young girl. Maybe she had an explanation or maybe this was another case of different timeline shenanigan? Should you tell her? You’ll wait for now…
Izanami started; hearing the words left her frozen. The man before her had met every parameter that defined her brother. Statistically near- no. Simply impossible to meet somebody like that. And what does one do in the face of impossibility? Well, nothing good. She began to babble in a strangely familiar manner, her mouth running over the words.
“A-A-Ah! S-s-sorry m-mister!”
Great. Now she actually sounds like her brother. Keep it under control. Keep it under control. Nothing to see here.
Izanami’s panic quickly ended, her eyes returning to a sudden calm, and a sunny smile restored on her tired face. It was as if the misaligned gears in her head suddenly corrected themselves, restoring her original persona.
She immediately began analyzing him, with her logical faculties back. Was that a gun holder underneath the jacket? Then, probably he’s a police officer. He’s also wearing a suit, so likely a detective. Therefore, he might know Tohru! Usually detectives are pretty stupid, and they wouldn’t notice that she was able to deduce their profession if she mentioned it. She immediately pursued a sort of interrogation, hidden in what appeared to be her simple banter.
“I am terribly sorry for the mistake, detective. What a strange coincidence, for my brother to have the same name! I was wondering, did you happen to know any other patrols for this neighborhood?”
But Tohru doesn’t say his first name often. Ask about “Adachi”.
"I want to see my big brother... but my parents... The name is Adachi, you know? Looks a lot like you, but he’s pretty clean, you know?”
