yes. he was now fully suggesting breaking into someone’s apartment. but maybe… just maybe there was a chance the guy lived on the first floor. the second would make it a little harder, but not entirely impossible. and if he was up any higher, well… with the lack of patience either of them had, something was getting broken into.
@its-creed
❝ you think we can maybe break one of the windows open ? ❞
jaeyeol's gaze lifts, sweeping over the row of windows looming above their heads. the interiors concealed in darkness, devoid of any glimmer of light ( due to the power outage ) made it seem as though the entire apartment complex lay deserted — akin to an abandoned building. surveying it all from below increased the sense of intimidation, yet jaeyeol, never one to back down when his patience is on the verge of dying out, persisted. ❝ do you happen to know how to break a window open ? ❞
he mentally calculates the height of the first-floor windows from their current position, contemplating the ease with which one could scale them and gain entry into a random resident's apartment. jaeyeol resides on the second floor, meaning they could also attempt to climb up to his window, though the risk of a bone-breaking fall would be much greater from that distance. ❝ i live on the second floor ... how about you ? ❞ his gaze returns to reed, though a hint of what he might suggest next, already apparent by how he continues glancing up the building.
❝ how about i hoist you onto my shoulders and you attempt to gain entry into one of those apartments ? ❞ jaeyeol gestures upwards towards the first floor windows as he approaches their location. ❝ just ensure there's no one inside before you enter. ❞ if they're caught in the midst of their little plan, they might be mistaken for thieves, a possibility he dreads to entertain. such an event would undoubtedly bring trouble for them both.
"you don't happen to have secret tech powers too, do you?" before jaeyeol could answer, eunjae raised her hand and called towards the poor cashier, "we'll go check on him!" she slapped the booth between them cheerfully and hopped up, wiggling her fingers beckoningly in jaeyeol's direction. "come on, maybe he got zapped and they'll give us the food for free if we rescue him."
@999kintsugi
jaeyeol sighs as the realization sinks in that his meal won't arrive anytime soon. the delay is especially irritating given his particular preferences : he despises cold food ( when it should be warm ) and detests waiting longer than necessary. were it not for the fact that he had already paid, he might have followed the example of those gradually vacating the diner.
money doesn’t grow on trees, at least not for jaeyeol ; every penny he spends is meticulously calculated. he has a detailed monthly budget, planning each expense in advance — being a journalist doesn’t pay as well as people might assume.
by now, his eyes have adjusted to the darkness, the sunlight from outside casting enough light into the diner to dispel the pure blackness.
❝ it looks like they wouldn't even notice if we just took it. ❞
her words spark a reckless itch in jaeyeol. his hand twitch involuntarily, contemplating a swift grab from behind the counter and a quick retreat home to enjoy his meal while it was still warm. yet, he doesn’t entertain his impulses. it would be futile considering his apartment is as dark as the diner itself : there is no electricity working at the silverline apartments either.
the commotion around them grabs jaeyeol’s attention only shortly, his eyes quickly find their way back behind the counter, longingly staring at the food that is sitting there, destined perhaps to be discarded rather than savored. his eyes are still trained on the food when eunjae speaks to him, she doesn’t even give him any time to respond. nonetheless, he still mutters softly under his breath, ❝ if i had secret tech powers, my meal would be inside my stomach by now. ❞
when jaeyeol finally meets her gaze, it is in response to her audacious proposal. he is dumbfounded. did eunjae truly perceive him as the adventurous type ? he is more inclined to remain seated, letting someone else handle the power issue. he considers pointing out that he has already paid for his meal and that checking on the manager now would be pointless. but looking at eunjae, he realizes she might not be easily shaken off.
❝ do we really have to? ❞ he mutters, his voice barely audible over the din of the diner. his eyes dart longingly towards the untouched platters, the faint scent of the food teasing his senses. jaeyeol reluctantly stands up, shoving his hands into his pockets. ❝ this better be worth it, ❞ he grumbles under his breath, casting a sidelong glance at eunjae ( who was practically bouncing with energy ) as he trailed after her.
as they make their way through the crowded diner, jaeyeol keeps his head down, avoiding eye contact with the disgruntled patrons. he is not in the mood to deal with any more attention directed his way ( and possibly being asked questions he has no answers to ) .
he follows eunjae blindly, his steps quickening to keep pace with her confident stride. no hint of skepticism crosses his mind regarding her knowledge of their destination. maybe she's familiar with the building's layout or has a direct connection to the manager. whatever the reason, he trails after her in silence, only to get this over with as quickly as possible.
finally, they arrive at a door adorned with a prominent power sign. jaeyeol extends his hand to grasp the doorknob, his fingertips brushing the cold metal. in an instant, a sharp jolt of electricity shoots through him, causing him to curse aloud as he recoils in pain. ❝ what the hell ? ❞ his fingers throb with a residual sting as he turns to glare at eunjae as if she had been the one to shock her. ❝ is this some kind of prank ? ❞
i've fallen a bit behind and haven't been able to reach out to everyone who liked my intro post. so, here's a follow-up to see who is still interested in plotting. if you'd like me to reach out, just like this post, and i'll message you with a proper idea!
lina is literally driving him : to madness
white rays reflect upon her skin. she glows under the hues, cheeks tinted rosette - from the heat pooling in their living room. the weather has been unbearably warm ( a complaint she had voiced just moments ago ) ❝ it’s so warm today, i don’t want to move at all, ❞ she sighed, and he agreed with a hum, their bodies one empty seat apart on the ( now too spacious ) couch. they always sit like this : skin never touching. a habit stemming from jaeyeol's shyness with physical contact. it’s not foreign, just scary - too intimate. overcoming his fears, bridging the gap between them ( literally and figuratively ) is considered but never turned into fruition. jaeyeol rattles his brain for answers and possibly a solution to his own reserve, completely forgetting about the movie playing on the large screen right before them.
all he feels are his own cheeks heat when lina’s gaze meets his own. she perks an eyebrow at him, and he’s pretty sure she asked him a question. with a nervous gulp and a hesitant laugh, he stammers, ❝ i’m sorry … what did you say? ❞
she opens her mouth and jaeyeol knows she’s speaking, his ears just won’t cooperate to focus on her words. and instead of forcing himself to listen, he embarrassingly shifts his gaze down to her lips. pretty, is the first word that springs to his mind, the next are : i wonder how soft they are. aware of the inappropriateness of his thoughts, his eyes widen slightly. now she must definitely know something isn’t right with him. his eyes are forced back up, white teeth chewing on his lower lip as he musters himself to distract her with words. ❝ i don’t like this movie, it’s stupid. put something else on. ❞
# 13 : if your life paused for a day and you could go anywhere you want and do anything you want , where would you go ?
"is it bad that i don't know? i don't really have the desire to be somewhere specific or do anything specific. i'd likely just carry on with my usual routine. everything i need is right here in my apartment; nowhere else could compare. maybe i'd head to the bakery next door and indulge in as much bread as possible?"
25. ) when was the last time you told someone honestly how you felt about them?
"today i did. i was at the bakery next door to the silverline apartments, and as usual, there was a really long line. i got in line like everyone else, but for some reason, this old granny walked into the bakery and demanded to be served right away because she claimed she was too old to wait in line. she was yelling and screaming at the cashier, so i approached her and told her she was being disrespectful and acting immature. i also expressed my disapproval of her attitude and warned her that if she didn't stop yelling, i might shove one of the breadsticks into her mouth. needless to say, she didn't appreciate my words and started swinging her purse at me, but at least i spoke my mind."
22 / what's something no one else knows about you?
"last week at work, i was the idiot who printed 217 powerpoint slides individually instead of setting them six to a page. none of you were helpful either, because i stood by the printer demanding retribution from the guilty party, shouting, 'who among you idiots is using a computer for the first time?' turns out, it was me. john, maybe next time, stop me from using the printer if you're so bothered by 217 individual slides."
if the building were about to burn down, what are the first three things you would grab?
"the first three things? probably my phone because i need it for a lot of things, especially work. then my laptop for the same reasons—there's a lot of important stuff on it that i can't afford to lose. as for the third item, I'd grab my wallet because it has my passport and other essential cards. losing everything in my wallet would be such a hassle. do you know how long it takes to replace documents? yeah, i don't have the patience for that."
to jaeyeol, emotions tend to arrive in intervals, each one distinct and solitary. he doesn’t feel things immediately, nor does he ever feel more than one emotion at a time. but today...today he’s certain he’s being tested. by god? no, that makes no sense. he doesn’t believe in things like that. either way, something is definitely amiss, and jaeyeol stands staring at the door blocking his path.
he still hasn’t managed to get inside. well, technically, that's not true. he had been inside after the power went out but, for whatever dumb reason, decided to leave again, and now he can’t get back in. the first emotion that strikes him is annoyance, a sharp flare igniting in his chest. nothing has gone his way today, and it doesn’t seem likely to get any better soon. the anger that follows feels warranted.
jaeyeol tugs at the door handle, pulling and pushing with growing frustration. “stupid door,” he mutters, stepping back with his hands on his hips, contemplating his options. his gaze drifts upwards to the windows lined above. neither of his abilities are going to be of any use now, and he wishes, just for a moment, that he had an ability that could be useful.
taking another step back, he eyes the door, wondering how sturdy it really is. maybe if he rams his body against it, it might break? or maybe his bones will. he weighs the possibility, ultimately deciding that getting hurt isn’t worth it. the next best option is someone from inside letting him in.
as luck would have it, someone exits the door, leaving it open just long enough for jaeyeol to slip inside. he's about to sigh in relief when a voice yells at him, "hey, you! this building is for residents only!" his eyebrow quirks up as he turns to face whoever had just spoken. jaeyeol hasn’t met this guy before, but it’s not like he’s run into everyone living here—not even after three years of being a resident.
"what?" jaeyeol doesn't even know how to respond because he's too busy trying to figure out who this person is and why they're talking to him in particular. "who are you?" maybe he should focus on explaining that he is, in fact, a resident, but jaeyeol never does things in the most logical way.
"ow— what the.." in a false sense of strangeness, mimi turned on the flashlight on her phone once again, shining it at what she had run into, only to narrow her eyes and sigh rather loudly at who she saw. "jaeyeol? you scared me! what are you doing here?"
@constellieos
tw: mentions of drinking & consumption of alcohol
although jaeyeol has gotten his fair share of complaints at work and at his apartment complex, he still dislikes the idea of someone complaining about him and his coworker, mimi. in his mind, they work pretty hard—if he purposefully overlooks all the times they chat instead of working or when they use unorthodox methods to get their information for certain reports. all in all, they are the only ones who occasionally take their job seriously. whoever left this new complaint about them had done so without even hiding the fact they were going to. sometimes jaeyeol wonders if people intentionally don’t use their brain when they do anything.
either way, the report has been stuck on his mind because frankly, he and mimi can’t afford another complaint. they’ve already been warned once this week, and a second time could possibly set off their boss—maybe even lead to them getting fired. so when the power goes out, jaeyeol, in a bored state of mind, has the brilliant idea to simply steal the report and get rid of it once and for all, for his and mimi’s sake, before it can be handed over to their boss. at least in times like these, his invisibility comes in handy.
finding his way to the office is child’s play; he doesn’t think much—or at all—when he goes invisible right before reaching the entrance of the building. he gets inside so easily, he doesn’t even consider the possibility of anything or anyone getting in his way.
the entire place is dipped in a splosh of black and pure darkness. thankfully, his eyes are sharp enough to navigate the space without knocking things over. he’s back to being visible because there is no need to hide when he’s quite literally the only one here—or so he thinks until something—no, someone—runs straight into him. he had been so distracted that the possibility of anyone else being here hadn’t even crossed his mind. jaeyeol’s heart almost does a flip at possibly having been caught by one of his coworkers, or worse, his boss, but when a bright light is flashed into his adjusting eyes, he can already guess who’s in front of him.
“what the hell, mimi. turn that off,” he hisses, turning his head away and using his forearm to shield his eyes from the flashlight. maybe he should be sounding more surprised at mimi’s appearance here, but he can’t even lie and pretend like he’s shocked. he can already make a wild guess that they both had the same idea. “i could ask you the same. why are you here?”
realizing they are both being rather loud, he shushes her while taking a quick peek around the space, in case anybody else is hiding too. lowering his voice, he whispers to mimi, his breath warm and rushed. “are you also looking for the complaint? did you find it?” carefully brushing past her, jaeyeol begins opening and closing shelves of a nearby desk, which he knows belongs to the person who had threatened to write a complaint about them. his fingers move deftly, almost frantically, as he searches. “have you checked here yet?”
i'm so sorry for disappearing, i had the longest work week :( i will slowly start reaching out to everyone who liked my plot call and get to all my replies + the event starters <3
with the dark of the night and city looming behind them, reed is positive no one else will be coming through the doors anytime soon. he taps the card against the scanner one more time before it flashes red again. “maybe third time’s the charm?”
@its-creed
jaeyeol truly dislikes inconveniences, especially after a grueling shift at work. he simply longs to step into his apartment and sink into the comfort of his couch, but it wouldn't be jaeyeol's life if things ever went smoothly. the chaos of the day seems to cling to him like an unwelcome shadow, trailing him all the way home. his frustration must be apparent because even his neighbor's attempt to open the door fails. who thought key cards were a good idea for an entire building? traditional keys would have saved him from this nightmare.
he sighs audibly, a sound filled with unmistakable irritation, his brows furrowing as he glares at the scanner. "yeah, sure," he mutters under his breath, barely acknowledging his neighbor’s words before stepping forward to try the card again. predictably, the door remains stubbornly shut. jaeyeol's frustration boils over, and he grabs the handle, rattling it with all the strength he can muster. still, it refuses to budge. "is there no security guard at the front desk today?" he asks, not really expecting an answer, just needing to vent his anger.
realizing that shaking the door isn't going to help, he begins pounding on it with his fists instead, each thud stronger than the last. "hello? is anyone inside? let us in!" his shout echoes through the hallway, loud enough to alert anyone nearby. when no one responds, he kicks the door in a fit of rage, instantly regretting it as sharp pain shoots through his foot. he groans, stumbling backward, reaching down to clutch his foot.
"don’t just stand there, do something," he snaps at his neighbor as if he’s the one responsible for all this.
what's the worst thing you've ever done to someone?
"the worst thing i've ever done to someone? i'm not sure if this is actually the worst, but i do regret it, so i might as well come clean. when i was younger, one of my older sisters used to get on my nerves a lot. she would force me to do things for her all the time just because she thought being older meant i was her personal servant. at some point, i'd had enough and came up with a master plan to get back at her. looking back, i realize i went overboard, but it felt right in the moment.
basically, i figured out she had a crush on some guy from her class, so i wrote a really awful love letter, making her sound like an absolute psychopath. he got so scared that he called the cops on her and even got a restraining order. it was pretty bad—my sister got grounded and my parents made her see a therapist. they never figured out that i wrote the letter, but i did try to make it up to her by doing things for her without her needing to ask anymore. i still feel bad, even though she kinda deserved it…"
"home? it's just the place i live—my apartment. unless you were expecting a deeper meaning? i mean, i feel comfortable there because it's mine, and i guess i feel safe, but honestly, i don't think a true home exists. nothing really feels like home to me. don't get me wrong though, i like my apartment—it's my home after all."
