Is Alina's crush on Ricardo secret, or is it just with Julia? (Sorry, I'm on a hyperfixation the last couple weeks and am living for the quality FH OCs)

In short: pre-heartbreak Alina was closer with Julia but kept her feelings buried, while she was dating Ricardo though it was far from perfect and made their relationship a little worse in the end

way too long answer:

pre-heartbreak Alina and Ricardo were dating - using that word kinda loosely as it mainly consisted of Ric attempting to get closer and Alina being an anxious wreck over the societal expectations of being in a relationship, overthinking intimacy-related stuff, and constantly second guessing his attraction towards her (he did have a reputation as a playboy). Even though she did like him a lot, being in a romantic relationship put more strain on their friendship (Alina felt like she had to put on a performance a lot of the time in regular social situations, imagine how much worse she’d feel when you add dating to the mix). Overall the two of them getting together was cute but maybe not the best idea at the time. In Rebirth, Alina goes a little revisionist about their past relationship and downplays it in her head as her just being another one of his flings (this feeds into her bigger feelings of being abandoned by him). He definitely looks back way more fondly on their relationship.

Alina had a secret crush on Julia, not that she realized at the time (nor did she know it was requited). While she considered Ricardo just a good friend, she considered Julia her best friend and looked up to her a lot/was inseparable from her. What prevented them from getting together is a mix of compulsive heterosexuality late 00s-early 2010s-style (on both of their parts? Maybe mostly just Alina’s), fear of ruining the friendship, and the fact that their friendship is already pretty intimate (minus the kissing they do everything like a couple already, they’re just too dense to realize). It works out for the better because without the strain of dating, their relationship is at a better place at the start of Rebirth. They were like the girl version of “it’s not gay to kiss your homies goodnight” or whatever, and Alina had a more playful relationship with Julia, and because of this Julia made her feel very human. overall the vibe I’m kinda going for is Jennifer and Needy from Jennifer’s Body, except Needy’s the one that becomes a monster
