BABY GIRL NOOOOOO !!! GET THAT COIN!!! BEAT CAPITLISIM!!!! but i write for you <333 okay? because you work hard and deserve nice things <33333
Zuko wasn't the jealous type. He knew that. If he'd been the jealous type, he would've been aware of it. Right? He would've been aware of it. Besides, what he was feeling right now wasn't even jealousy. He just wanted everyone to respect his wife enough to keep their respectful distance from her.
So what if the subjects were simply bowing to her? Or if the nobles and the other kingdoms' ambassadors were dancing with her? Or kissing her hand when they bowed and left? It was all perfectly normal. Expected, even.
So, why was he feeling the way he was feeling?
Spirits- It was just Sokka that was dancing with you currently. But he had the urge to pry you away from even his best friend. Why was that?
Sokka was family. It didn't make sense. It wasn't like your body was pressed up against his. Not at all. You and him had a respectful distance in between as you conversed and danced. But then- then- he said something and you laughed. You laughed. Carefree, eyes closed, nose crinkled and that did it for Zuko.
He walked through the crowd and tapped Sokka's shoulder.
"Mind if I cut in?" He asked but it wasn't really a question.
Sokka didn't blink twice. "Sure, buddy." He said cheerfully and bowed to you dramatically with a laugh. "Fire Lady!" He tried to sound formal- Well, as formal as it could be with how he was chuckling, and left to find Suki.
"May I?" Zuko said softly but before you could even say something, his hand was in yours and the other arm was slipping around your waist.
You smiled shyly and began to sway. Letting him lead.
The music was sweet and gentle. Much like the way he was holding you. And oh, how closely he was holding you. You were sure that the Chamberlain was having an aneurysm because Zuko was not being formal and appropriate as the Fire Lord. Even if you were his wife- There were certain etiquettes that were expected of you both. One of which were that displays of public affection were very frowned upon and thought to be for commoners only.
Zuko could feel it too. The way the room quieted down a little. The way every eye was on you both.
"You're not supposed to hold me like this." You said softly.
"Don't care." He frowned and continued to move. You laughed a little, and shook your head, continuing to dance with him. After a few seconds, he spoke again. "I don't like it." He almost whispered.
"Don't like what?" You smiled at him.
"This. That everyone can see you. Admire you- Dance with you. Approach you." He sighed a little.
You rolled your eyes. "It's expected, isn't it? Part of being the Fire Lady."
"Yes but doesn't mean I have to like it." Zuko was aware that he was being childish, but he didn't care.
"Are- Are you jealous?" You giggled a little.
"No-" He said way too quickly. "No. I don't- I don't think so." He added quietly.
"You cut in the dance between Sokka and I." You reminded him.
"He was making you laugh." He said with a huff.
"That's usually what happens when someone is being pleasant." You chuckled a little.
"It's just- It's a new feeling." He confessed, meeting your gaze.
That softened you and you let go of his hand, wrapping your arms around his shoulders in return. The feeling of you even closer made Zuko smile. For a moment, the band stuttered when they saw just blatant affection between the Fire Lord and Lady but then they resumed as normal.
It was been just a few days since you both had shared a kiss in the privacy of your bedchambers. But somehow... this felt more intimate.
"This is a nice dance." Zuko leaned his forehead against your shoulder as he swayed you, his arms tightening around your waist.
This was good. Him holding you like this- You allowing him to hold you like this. Ignoring centuries of tradition and expectations. Showing his claim to his wife. That you may laugh, dance, be approached by any commoner, noble, ambassador or council member- But only he may hold you close to his heart. Where you've burrowed so deeply that now your self is part of his very soul.

TOTALLY SWOONED
Zuko arranged marriage first kiss please
as you wiiisshhh my love!! <333
Zuko couldn't deny it any longer. He had fallen in love with his wife. He wasn't sure when it happened- Maybe it was hundred different moments that brought him here. Or maybe he'd been falling slowly since the moment he'd met you.
It didn't matter eitherway. Because he was in love with you and obviously you would never feel the same way. Maybe you would- Who knew- But he was sure that you'd never love him so quickly. Perhaps in a few years? But not yet. Right?
Wrong. Zuko was absolutely wrong but for a while, you'd catch yourself looking at him. Staring, really. The way his hand would move when he wrote, or when the morning sun would shine against his untied hair, or when he'd sit on the bedchambers floor to finish up the reports and day's tasks, completely at ease.
Unlike him, you knew when you'd started to fall for the Fire Lord. It had been a cold evening when you'd been sitting on the balcony, watching the sky when he'd simply draped a warm blanket over your shoulders and left. You hadn't asked- He'd simply noticed and taken care of you.
Maybe that's why the air felt so thick tonight in the bedchambers.
Zuko was once again on the floor, leaned over papers as he ate dinner that had been brought to your room. Meanwhile, you sat at the Kotatsu, watching him and just picking at the food.
"You seem stressed." You said softly, moving to sit next to him.
"The chamberlain expects me to go through all this tonight- Ambassadors are coming tomorrow to-" He looked up and his breath paused with how close you were.
"To?" You whispered, wanting him to continue.
But he'd lost his train of thought completely. You were sitting next to him. Your knee against his thigh. Your face so close to his. He could just lean forward and- and- No! That would be inappropriate. But would it? It's your wife- Zuko's mind whirled with thoughts that he couldn't stop.
"Everything alright?" You asked earnestly.
He nodded, swallowing visibly. "You're sitting very close-"
"Oh- I- Sorry-" You began to move away a little but he grabbed your wrist to keep you where you were.
"I don't mind." He said softly, letting go of your wrist after he was sure you weren't going to create space between him and you.
For a moment, you both just looked at one another. Absorbing the little details.
"You have beautiful eyes." You found yourself saying.
"Eye." He corrected.
"What?" You tilted your head in confusion.
"I have one good eye. The other is-" He turned away so you wouldn't be subjected to the scarred side of his face.
"No." You reached out to turn his face back to you. The action which made him surprised, to say the least. "They're both beautiful. You're beautiful."
"You don't have to-" He began but you smiled, your hand still on his face, your thumb gently caressing at the edge of his scar. It made him sigh and close his eyes as he leaned into your touch.
"I'm not lying to make you feel better." You whispered, leaning closer to him.
Zuko's hand wrapped around your wrist as he turned his face to kiss your palm.
"You truly think so?" He opened his eyes and looked at you. He seemed more boy than man-
"I do." You nodded, and he closed his eyes again, kissing at your wrist.
"If you tell me to stop, I will." He said gently.
"No need." Your other hand came up to touch his other cheek. "I think we've denied ourselves long enough."
"We have." He agreed and looked at you again. You truly were the sun, the moon and the stars. So beautiful. So kind. And shockingly, all his. "My lovely wife." He murmured before leaning to place his lips against yours, which you accepted easily.
The kiss was not rushed, nor rough. It was gentle. Like you both had all the time in the world. And maybe you did. Tomorrow could wait. The council could wait. The chamberlain could wait.
For right now, all that mattered was that you thought he was beautiful and he was finally allowing himself the privilege of kissing you.

We need more arranged Zuko 🥰 they each realize they love each other and things progress 👀👀
YES YES MORE FELLOW ZUKO LOVERSSSSS!!!!!!!
Months. It had been months since that day- Since you'd become his wife and the Fire Lady. The court had yet to fully accept you but they behaved for the Fire Lord.
However, currently, you sat by a pond in the gardens, feeling the turtle ducks. Taking a moment to yourself- To calm the chaos that unfurled in your heart and mind.
Zuko was a kind man. An honourable man. He was compassionate and loved his people. He was everything you hadn't expected him to be. You'd fully come prepared to fight, argue and keep your distance from him but slowly, recently, you'd found yourself gravitating towards him. Him and his awkward jokes. His oddities.
You were completely unaware that Zuko, as well, was starting to have a hard time in his formal marriage.
He had fully expected you to be cold, unforgiving for his and his family's past- Not that he would've blamed you for it. It would have been completely understandable if you hated him. But you... didn't. You were sweet and you laughed at his jokes even when they were painfully unfunny. You listened to him rant about the issues in the court and council. You offered unbiased opinions- Something he found himself seeking out more and more-
So, here he was. Seeking out your company once more.
"May I join you?" He asked, a few steps away from you.
You gave him a smile over your shoulder and nodded. He sat down next to you, his knee slightly pressing against your thigh. Both of you flushed but neither moved.
After a few minutes of silence, he spoke. "I used to sit here a lot with my mother when I was young. Feeding the turtle ducks."
"No wonder they flock to you so easily." You mused, handing him the piece of bread to toss in the pond.
Zuko nodded and both of you fell quiet again.
He desperately wanted to converse but honestly his mind was blank. He didn't know where to start. You, however, were keeping quiet on purpose. You didn't trust your voice or words or thoughts at the moment. Not when he was so close- The closest he'd ever been. Not when he smelled so good and the wind, as if on purpose, carried his musk to you.
"I was wondering-" He started and you turned to him a little too quickly.
"Yes." You were practically breathless.
"I haven't asked yet." He laughed a little.
"Right- Sorry- You were wondering?" You asked softly.
"I was wondering if you liked being here so far." His voice was low, as if only meant for you.
"It's warmer than home." You said shyly. "But that was to be expected, I suppose-"
"Let me rephrase," Zuko said gently. "Do you like being in this ... Uh- Situation with me so far?"
"Oh-" You blinked, your skin felt warmer. The way his golden eyes were fixed on you made you feel like there was no one else in the world currently. "It's not what I expected." You whispered.
"What did you expect?" He found himself leaning towards you.
"Something different." You said softly. "But I found that-"
"Yes?" He swallowed. You were so close- He could smell your skin, see every freckle and wrinkle that he'd miss from a distance.
"That you're very kind and ... on most days, I find myself looking forward to spending time with you." You confessed, and held your breath.
Zuko's face split into a wide smile. "You do?" He scooted closer. "So do I. I've realized how much I like it when you're next to me and when you're not... I find myself feeling as if something is wrong."
"Seems we're on the same page then." You nodded and he chuckled.
"Seems so-" He agreed. But before he could say more, they were interrupted as Zuko was called by a council member to discuss something urgently. "I'll... I'll see you at dinner." He took your hand in his for the first time and pressed a gentle kiss to it. "Until then, I hope you will think of me."

The Night After The Ceremony
I'd give you my left kidney for more of arranged marriage zuko
BABYGIRL NOT THE KIDNEY!!!! how about just a pinky toe? <333
also - ask and ye shall receive!! <3333 the WAY i love this MAN MY GODDDDDD
The ceremony was over. Exhaustion didn't begin to cover how Zuko felt and he hadn't even gotten a chance to actually speak to his wife during it all.
Great Agni- My wife. He couldn't believe that it had happened. It felt surreal.
Currently, he was outside his chambers, pacing quietly as the handmaidens helped you change and ready for bed. Their bed. The thought alone made Zuko deeply nervous. He knew that the Fire Nation was still exceptionally archaic and expected proof of consummation of the marriage but he couldn't even bring himself to think of that right now.
All he could think about was how you were so far from home, in a strange place with stranger people and you were expected to make it work.
He sighed and looked to the door as it opened. The handmaidens bowed and left. He watched them disappear at the end of the hallway before knocking gently on the door.
"May I come in?" He asked.
"Yes- Of course." You answered hurriedly and he heard fabrics rustling about.
Zuko entered, his heart in his throat and his palms clammy. And there you were. A vision to behold. Hair undone, no rouge, no regalia. Just a simple sleeping gown and a robe.
You're beautiful. Like the moon- Like the sun- Like every star I've ever seen.
He wanted to say it all but he held it in. He didn't want to spook you on the first night. You looked nervous enough too.
"Would you care to sit?" He asked, sitting on the bed and patting the space next to him.
You smiled anxiously and sat beside him, but still left some space in between. Something that Zuko clocked immediately.
"I- Uh- I believe this is tradition." He pulled out a betrothal necklace. "I'm not the greatest craftsman but I tried my best." He said sheepishly and offered you the necklace. "May I put it on you?"
Your eyes widened- He didn't have to keep up with your traditions- He was the Fire Lord. But here he was. Giving you a betrothal necklace. You smiled softly and nodded, turning your back to him so he could tie it around your neck.
"Thank you-" You said softly. "You didn't have to-"
"I'm not finished." Zuko smiled, turning you to face him again. "Sokka told me that there's some other traditions if the husband is a warrior." You flushed at the term husband. It was still all so new and surreal. "I don't consider myself a warrior but I have fought, so I think I qualify." He joked and you laughed a little as well, turning your face away shyly.
Zuko considered this as an absolute win. You weren't shrinking away or running for the hills from him. So, clearly- He was doing this husband thing right.
He stood up and went to a drawer, pulling out a dagger that was encrusted with a moonstone.
"I am to understand that as I wed you-" He handed you the blade. "As per the Water Tribe customs, I put my life in your hands. And with this weapon, you may either protect me, or harm me- It would be your right as my wife."
Your fingers wrapped around the beautiful dagger. "Thank you..." You whispered again, holding the blade to your chest. "For upholding my traditions."
"They're ours now." He assured you gently.
Silence wrapped around the room but it didn't feel heavy. You held the blade tightly and couldn't find the words to appreciate Zuko properly for what he'd done.
However, as exhaustion deepened for both of you, the realization of sharing the bed grew heavier.
"Um-" You swallowed hard, looking at the bed then back at Zuko.
"Hm? Oh! Uh- We don't- don't have to-" His voice wavered as nerves took over.
"We don't?" You repeated, unsure that he'd said what he had.
"We don't." He said firmly. "I- I never wish that you feel obligated for such matters."
"But the court-" You fidgeted with the handle of the dagger.
Zuko smiled and shook his head. "I've dealt with worse than court gossip. They may whisper as they please- I'm not about to put their words above my wife's comfort."
You flushed and looked away again. "I appreciate that."
It seemed that everything you'd assumed about the Fire Lord was turning out to be very false.
"You are an honourable man." You said softly, still not meeting his gaze.
"I try to be." He lowered his head to meet your eyes. "For you, I will be."
