Project 6 (Installation) - Leave your trace in this box
All participating artists experience the actual time difference through shipping a box and documenting the process. It starts from Japan and ends in Seattle via New York. The aim of the project is to represent the distances encompassing different time-zones in physical form.
We repeat the following process. First open the package sent from the previous location and document the opening of the package. And then we repackage the box and ship it again until it reaches Seattle. The work would be completed gradually by adding something each time the participants receive the package. We display everything during the exhibition including the contents of the package, all packaging materials and the photo documentation of the project.

Project 5 (Print) 96027 Characters / Keyword Density 1075 (17%) ART BEASTIES By printing out all Art Beasties members' e-mails chronologically, since its founding in 2013, on single piece of cloth, the work attempts to reveal true intentions and/or indecisions of the senders in the mails.
The work embodies the nature of time difference into a cross-section diagram, like mapping a place on a sheet of paper. As most topography hidden from our mundane perspective would be clearly visible on the map with the bird's-eye view, the transferred email texts from the computer screen to a flat surface would emphasize the nuanced wording. Hopefully the project would reveal the sender’s intentions and the effect of time difference upon our communication that was hidden in the original email.

Project 4 (Installation) - The Meeting It was in November 2014 when we had our second Skype meeting. When we had the Skype meeting between three time-zones, we had to simultaneously be present on two consecutive days. Some of us would be in the morning, while others would be in the evening or late at night. Seattle time was 19:00 on Saturday, New York was 22:00 on Saturday and Japan was 12:00 on Sunday. There were certain time lag in the Skype communication and the surroundings were subtle, yet noticeably influenced by the time zones. There was a tension during Skype meeting between the members who have not met before and there was awkward pause among us while two languages were spoken.
The Meeting tries to reproduce our Skype meeting, held between Seattle, Tokyo and New York. Would the audience be able to perceive somewhat counter- intuitive and awkward moments caused by the Skype communication between multiple time-zones?

Project 3 (Sound Performance) - The Junction:Reconstruction of Common Sense This experimental installation consists of two parts.
First part is the improvised live music performance, during the opening reception by musician from Seattle, Tokyo and New York via Skype. Since the improvisation is on Skype, the Time Difference is revealed through time-lag, ambient noise and many other phenomena.
Second part is the energy of the digital sound made visible by pulsating sand physically. The sound is generated from three speakers, each dedicated to Seattle, Tokyo and New York. The separate sound sources make different wave patterns on a container filled with a thin layer of sand particles. The waves would merge and/or disrupt each others creating a visualized version of Time Difference. The work attempts to express the creative possibilities beyond the concept of Time Difference.

Project 2 (Video) - Our Excellent E-mail Communication Our Excellent E-mail Communication is a Video work, which captures the artists reading all e-mails within Art Beasties correspondences. The senders read their own emails, including date, title, and the text. The responder of the mail reads in the same manner. The video continually shows the artists reading the emails.
ART BEASTIES use e-mails as a main communication tool. Because of geographical distance and time differences between us, we have no other option but to rely on e-mail correspondences. In our creative process, the circumstance gives a distinctive characteristic to our collective. It can be perceived as a hindrance, but also turned into main source of our creativity. We don’t see each other in person (for some we have never met). It is quite extraordinary that we discuss our thoughts/concepts, organize exhibitions as a collective primarily through e-mails. In our e-mails, it is unavoidable to experience all kinds of gaps and misunderstandings.
E-mail is one of the most commonly used communication tools all over the world. It is a tool, which can deliver the message in an instant without worrying about the time and the distance. However, we want to become aware of its particular nature that differs from our real time communication. We pay closer attention to the shifts between different modes of communication; it should remind us that our perception of vanished time difference and geographical distances are simply virtual.

Project 1 (Photography) - 30:30
We are surrounded by photographs. Everyone has the smartphone and capture images and share them instantly on the Internet. No one could keep up with the pace of image data transfer and their updates. Through our use of SNS (social networking service), we are connected to the people around the globe. In turn our awareness of Time Difference has been reduced to fraction of a second. In our contemporary life, such data exchange became more efficient and faster. As a result, it has become virtually impossible for us to look carefully and contemplate on the massive amount of digital files. It may be even said that we feel satisfied merely through the act of taking pictures.
For the duration of 30 hours, before and after the New Year’s Day in 2015, Art Beasties members from Seattle, Tokyo and New York captured their moments in daily life. The images are made every 30 minutes simultaneously. By exhibiting the photographs chronologically, the flow of time in multiple streams would be revealed.
